Two things...
I haven't had much time lately to make the finishing touches on the banner, which is why it might look a little rough around the edges in places. I just wanted to mention that if I don't get around to updating it. Also using a white border was a questionable choice.
All the links aren't yet updated on the first post.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!!
Starting this weekend I plan to start going through my collection to decide what movies I want to watch and then go back through past challenges to bookmark all my lists.

Yes, the time is almost here. I pick out my movies based on the checklist and subset films. We know the subset films and the first version of the checklist will be here in the next few days. I love this part of the challenge, looking for what qualifies for the checklist, looking to see if I can find it in my collection or streaming somewhere. I have about 60 films to pick out, the process takes forever but I love it and it is almost here. I agree with Shadokitty, it is like the excitement I felt at Christmas time when I was younger. And like Irend said, the time goes by too fast, but at least it is getting closer. Thanks to Chad for all of the work that he puts in to making this so much fun. Without him it wouldn't be half as exciting!

Already been watching some good horror. Re-watched The Dark Halfwith the excellent Romero commentary. Then I checked out the ill-fated Grizzly 2: Revenge, which has a great final sequence. Finally checked out the new HorrorPack exclusive The Once and Future Smash
and End Zone 2. The season is upon us.

^Anyone else going to attempt it? I'm probably going to catch the first 3 movies and just wait for the Sunday on demand for the rest. Rhonda Shear's going to be a guest.

For those itching for some new Horror content but want to save a movie watch for October, this new series premieres tonight on Shudder/AMC+ (and any self-respecting horror fan in the Challenge here already has a sub!).
Horror's Greatest (TV Series 2024– ) - IMDb
S1.E1 ∙ Tropes and Clichés

Creepy houses, killer rednecks, final girls: horror films often rely on well-worn storytelling devices, and audiences have come to expect them. What are the most common genre tropes and clichés? How do modern filmmakers subvert them?

I mentioned this in the other discussion thread. I watched it the other day and really enjoyed it. It is similar to the normal VH-1 clip/talking head show, but they did it with decent humor and without being overly obnoxious like so many shows of this ilk (i.e. comedians trying to get a laugh with a lame joke every time they speak). They also had some very obscure references here and there so it kept you guessing what movies might get mentioned since so many of these stick to the same 100 horror films everyone has always heard of. There are a couple of mistakes/wrong info but otherwise, it is a solid watch.
I am looking forward to the new episode which airs tonight:
S1.E2 ∙ Giant Monsters
Tue, Sep 3, 2024
Nearly a century after King Kong first ran amok, giant marauding monsters continue to enthrall us. Godzilla is hotter than ever. Filmmakers like Bong Joon-ho, J.J. Abrams, and Jordan Peele have all added their unique spins to the genre.
I decided to start my horror watching a little early and plan to go through my not-watched yet boxset All The Haunts Be Ours. I had only watched the excellent included documentary and just one of the films from it since I bought it when it was first released. Since Folk Horror isn't my favorite genre of horror, I figure I will go ahead and knock the whole set out, along with all the extras, this month in a slow prep for the stuff I really enjoy in October. Plus, the temperature just feels cooler outside when you are watching horror movies like these.

And only 8 days left to back this book series if you have an interest, also mentioned previously by me in the prior thread:
Here is a Kickstarter post for you horror movie criticism book buffs out there. I have all three that have been produced so far and they are all fun. The Kickstarter for this one will be for their fourth book, Transgressive Horror Resurrected!
Yours truly even wrote the introduction for the essay on Somewhere In Time in the Fantastic Flops book (though they put it at the end of the essay for some reason). Various rewards are available!

I'm currently listening to the latest Severin podcast episode on it, and it sounds like it might rival the original.

In Shudder news...
The supernatural subset Oddity is streaming on Shudder 9/27.
The Halloween subset Cemetery of Terror is leaving Shudder on 9/18.
If you plan on watching The Last Drive-In Nightmarathon make sure to at least catch Fade to Black (episode 4) by Friday because it's leaving, too.

In case anyone wants to beef up their physical media collection for next month, check out the Thrills and Chills collection from Hamiltonbook. 4 recent-ish hits on Blu-ray for only $4.95, so you might want to add it to your HB shopping cart
1. A Quiet Place
2. Crawl (killer croc)
3. Overlord (WWII genetic monsters)
4. Pet Sematary (the new one)
Also Amazon has all for only $14.95, and the for $11.

I might just have to buy that Final Destination set at that price. I've only seen the first first and fourth movie and it gives me an excuse to retire my dvd of the first movie in the snapper case.
