I'll knock those two out tonight, thanks! Ya all I got is really streaming and I've seen a lot of stuff (and I know a lot is hot garbage) so hoping for some good recs. I did the Insidious films (never watched the last one) and now I know why I didn't go out of my way watching the last one. Started off as a good series and then wet fart.

I was not aware of this. I didn't think it was that bad. A decline, yes. Didn't care for the sudden heel turn. But not "unmentionable" bad.

After perusing the theme movies for today, I saw Gamera 3: Revenge Of Iris . Having the trilogy on Blu Ray, that was a no brainer. I did notice something I'd missed before. Maybe it was being stoned, but before today, I'd never realized how melancholy the movie is in general.

Speaking of questionable Netix Original sequels I was disappointed in Sister Death (especially as a prequel to Veronica); Veronica is a smart intense urban ghost story and SD belabors a side character with an overly elaborate nunsploitation that is too slow burn and too stretched. I think Paco Plaza is a genius film maker but Sister Death might be one of his worst. (2021's The Grandmother many things he tried with Sister Death but much better).
I'm done being cranky and negative for now; really enjoying today's subset Queen of Spades.

We need a sacrifi... volunteer willing to report back on the questionable sequel of a "good Netflix original." It's true I'm probably being to hard on it.

I'm still trying to put a dent in the coffin box set of Dark Shadows I bought many years back. All this time and I'm only on episode 130. Almost to the Barnabus debut, but still a good ways from color.

I’m gonna check out The House On Skull Mountain to tick the Blaxploitation box on the checklist. Based on the poster which fucking rules, it has to be good.

Jamie Gillis was a legit Dracula! Richard Bulik's Dwight Frye homage was genuinely delightful. I enjoyed the commentary on the Vin Syn release by Bill Mangold, too. Maybe even more than I enjoyed the movie!

Not sure if this was a happy coincidence or part of Chad’s master plan (might have missed it in the planning threads), but it’s cool that we open the Chronological face-off theme day with the first body horror film, and then close the day with a Cronenberg film.

Sunday Night Trivia Question: The Banner Edition
Once again, this year's slightly unfinished banner continues the trend of being bigger than the year before and contains more images than previously used in the the past.
All you have to do is NAME 10 MOVIES USED IN THE BANNER. There's hundreds of images used, so plenty to choose from.
Easy access for the lazy:
Spoiler:
1. A few images are from sources other than film posters (i.e. fan art, Blu-ray cover art, lobby cards, etc.).
2. Some films have multiple images used.
3. Some images have been slightly altered.
4. International posters are often used.
5. There's the usual few repeats from past banners.
6. Some are outside the horror genre, and those can be used as well.
7. Some answers lie within the subset posters.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 20th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Well, I committed my first fuck-up of this year's challenge. A few years ago, I showed my wife and another couple Eden Lake (2008) a movie I consider a 10 on the tense/scary meter. Bad mistake and the wife was pissed.
So, a little while ago, our son is home from college and living with us while he is looking for a career job. He just got a full-time temp job, and we went out to celebrate. He enjoys watching movies with me and my wife is not a movie fan. Like, I am lucky to get her to watch one movie with me a month, if that. Well, we went out for a little celebration dinner for my son, and we convinced her to watch a horror movie with us. I wanted something really scary but something I felt was tolerable...but again, still scary.
Well, I watched Talk To Me (2022) last year and remember it scared the piss out of me. Not many movies do that nowadays, but it stayed with me. Problem is, I didn't really remember it being very gory or rough. Just really intense and scary. Why was I thinking it was a PG-13 movie? Fuck.
Let's just say my memory sucks and my wife is not happy. She left during the middle of it (most of you probably know the part) and said she was done with it. I had to stop the movie. My son looked uncomfortable that she left and that his stepmother appears upset. So, then he doesn't want to finish the movie either and I feel like a heel.
Anyway, she seems a little better now after I apologized profusely. I truly didn't remember it being so heavy tense and honestly just being scary. Anyhoo, she went to our room and stayed. Our son felt a little better after she told him I apologized, and he wanted to watch something else with me, so we watched Friday The 13th Part 2 (1981). He said that he wants to finish Talk To Me but felt uncomfortable that she was visibly shaken, and he said even he wasn't prepped for the intensity of the movie. I guess I grabbed family fun scary movie night and took big shit on it. She's probably out for anything remotely scary now for the rest of the month.
I suck.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 20th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Decided it's high time I got past Friday the 13th Part 2. I've seen the first film three times and 2 twice, but somehow never made it to III or beyond. So far this weekend, I've gotten through The Final Chapter. 34 kills in the span of 3 movies/5 days ain't bad work, Jason. What I love so far is that I frequently balk at a lapse of logic, whether within a character's decisions or the story itself despite the fact Jason seems to have a greater healing factor than Deadpool. That alone should nullify my innate need for things to make sense but nope. I still want to know things like "Why didn't the raft he slashed from below take on water and start sinking?" and "Why does he bother moving all these bodies?" My big pet peeve so far, though, is that it took until the fourth film for a single character to exhibit any indication of actually being under the influence of a substance despite all the drinking and pot smoking they've done throughout the series. Half a dozen teens shoved a handful of pot into their mouths at one point and absolutely nothing came of it!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 20th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Mistakes happen, she’ll understand you weren’t trying to trick her. This genre is tough sometimes with films being tame then f’d up craziness coming from nowhere. Happens with my wife occasionally, who doesn’t like anything extreme in film, especially horror. I’ll swear that I found a good calm film that she’ll love, then at some point I’ll be, “sorry hon, I forgot about that part.”
And funny Midsommar was mentioned by you, numbercrunch. That is another movie that I think is brilliant and sticks to your bones and have considered showing her. Thanks for the reminder not to do it! haha
Trevor, I am in the same boat. I can't tell you how many times I have sat with her for a movie and said, oops, I'm sorry. Forgot about that part. I have gotten to where I check the Parental Guide on even movies that I have seen before I recommend we watch something together.
If even a CG animal gets hurt in a movie, I am fucked.
