100 Movies. 31 Days. The 2nd Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" ***DISCUSSION***

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION ONLY!

*** ACTUAL LISTS WILL GO HERE ***

  • Same as last time - The goal is to reach 100 Horror / Horror-Related Films. And since this is a contest obviously the person who watches the most during the month is pronounced the winner. But, the ultimate goal is to just have fun with this. Whether you plan on watching 100 movies or just a handful...you're more than welcome to participate.
  • How you list your movies is completely up to you - whether you choose to continue your list in a new post each week or keep it all in one post. Just remember your post number(s), keep your list contained within this thread and by all means PLEASE NUMBER YOUR LISTS! It makes it so much easier when the final vote is being tallied.
  • Use your own discretion as to what you consider to be in the horror genre. If you consider "Jaws", "Se7en" "Godzilla", etc. horror then count them. If you don't...don't. Horror documentaries also count.
  • As we established last year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute, and the British Film Institute all define a feature as a film with a running time of forty minutes or longer.
  • We also came to the conclusion that despite its running time of only 25 minutes, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is not only essential viewing...it's also the one exception to the feature film rule that does count as a qualifying title.
  • The same film (unless it's a remake) CANNOT be watched more than once unless the other time is with a commentary. If you do listen to a commentary try to actually watch the film along with it. And even though it's not set in stone, let's try and limit it to one commentary per film.
  • The movies are not limited to strictly DVDs and related formats (even VHS ). And yes, movies on television and at the theater also count. I personally recommend catching the Turner Classic Movies October horror lineup.
  • If you so choose you may also include films of other genres you might happen to catch during the month in your list. But please keep them separate and put the qualifying titles in boldface to distinguish them from one another.

This year we're playing for a prize that you can actually physically hold in your hand A DVD of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" will be awarded to the winner courtesy of ViewAskewbian!

Thanks Chad for kicking this off again. I made the top ten last year with 85, so I'll definitely be participating again.

I'm in this year. Couldn't do it last year due to time constraints.

From my post in the first thread:
"I actually pulled this off one year with having both SCREAM (Canada's Horror film network) and working in a video store. We, meaning my roomie and I, managed 103. We went through all the major franchises (Jason, Freddy and Myers), rented MANY duds and tripe and really had a fine time as the nights progressed to our final night of Halloween Rocky Horror (at midnight). Since then it has been a tradition to watch both those films on Halloween and only watch Horror films in October. Sadly, this year, that tradition will have to be placed on hold somewhat as I blaze through all my October orders, mainly the Hitchcock films. So, I doubt I'll get anywhere NEAR 100."

And again I work at a video store with an abundant Horror Film section so I'll be gunning for #1 (though I doubt I'll hit 100)! It'll be a strange mix when I start dipping into my classic horror collection and I'll begin with what some dub the first horror flick ever made. Tune in Oct. 1st to find out.

Toss my name into the pumpkin.

* * *

To sweeten the pot this year I'll actually toss in a copy of the above mentioned horror flick to the winner, shipping costs and all.

I posted in the other thread, but I am definitely in! I have been saving all my horror dvds just for this all year. I did this on my own last year and it was fun. I think I only reached 80. I will definitely get 100 and hopefully more. My current schedule can be seen here:

I'm in - my dvd collection was too lame last year to participate, but I've been buying and building and holding off on my Universal Monsters and Val Lewton boxsets for this event.
Have at it!

In!

Gonna try and beat my record of 51 last year. Not bad for a working stiff with a wife and a 1 year old.
