I wasn't able to complete the banner for the time in, well, ever. Feels a bit incomplete. Stress levels are down, though. Maybe next year. I will eventually update this one to reflect it's the 21st challenge.

Already been watching horror on my own since middle of last month. Just couldn't wait.

Its such a weird feeling once its labor day and your mind already flips to fall. As far as the horror challenge goes I've been happy to participate these last few years and aim for about 50-75 movies. I'm already thinking of movies in my collection to set aside to watch and what to mix in for new movies I've never seen.

I watched a crappy Halloween movie last night, Creeping Death; it's funny how bad movies are fun off season but then during the challenge I'll get annoyed I have to slog through a dud (especially on Halloween itself).

When it is during The Challenge, I just sit there thinking how I could have watched a better horror movie and then thinking of everyone participating watching a better movie than me.

I watched an old timer movie last night, The Legend of Hell House, 1973?. It was good. I had just upgraded this to blu ray and wanted to check it out .

The Legend of Hell House (1973) isn't an old timer movie just because it's, mmmmmmmm, 52 years old. *sigh* Even so, it's aged better than a lot of other movies. In fact I'd say movies like The Uninvited (1944), The Haunting (1963), Rebecca (1940) (it might as well be a ghost story) , and The Legend of Hell House (1973) have all, for the most part, aged gracefully.

I adore The Legend Of Hell House. I watched it so many times on TV as a kid and it seems it was one that that either Elvira or a Midnight Movie show used to air all the time, not to mention HBO. I hope we see a 4K version in the future because I find the BD transfer to be just so-so and it looks like it could use a clean-up and the higher definition.
I recently read the book, read the graphic novel (which follows the book extremely closely) and then rewatched the movie. The movie strays quite a bit away from the book, probably because the book is very sexual in a lot of parts. The movie has some of this but tones that sort of stuff down quite a bit. It is a PG movie after all but is still risqué by today's standards for a PG film. It might be my all-time favorite Haunted House movie next to the original Poltergeist. I love Roddy McDowell's character in it and the score oozes and creaks along with weird sounds, moans, strings, etc. throughout. The of the house in this is gothically awesome as well. It is only weak with the final reveal, and it is handled a little better in the book...but even the end in the book is a little disappointing to me.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 21st Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Just a small plea from me to the people participating this year:
I know that the attendees are growing smaller every year here, mainly due to the decline in membership, but I would love to see some more watchers here participate in the discussion on the subset list in the Reviews section of this forum, if you happen to watch a movie that is in the list (even if you aren't doing the entire subset). Even if it is just a one-line review or thought, it would be welcome.
I know Chad goes to a lot of trouble to create each of those threads in the Reviews section and it would be nice to see more than just three or four comments. Even negative comments about the movie are welcome. A lot of these are shitty films so that can be expected.
But throw those comments for these films in the dedicated thread he creates instead of just dumping them here. Or dump them in both for good measure! Or even if you saw the movie previously and did want to rewatch it again but wanted to throw in some thoughts.
Also, visiting those dedicated threads is worth it just to see all the cool and weird movie posters that Chad digs up and posts for each of the subset films. Even the shittiest movies seem to have a least a few cool posters.
My favorite part of this Challenge is seeing the thoughts of others on what they watched almost more than me watching the movies for myself. Plus, others may have different insights that I had not even thought about, even on the movies I might have hated.
Anyway, just a humble plea.
Kisses, hugs and screams! Can't wait for October to get here.

I take it as an offense when someone 'makes' me watch a movie they suggest (especially a bad one) and doesn't even venture further comment on it; what a set up.

Last year only three (3) people commented on Cemetery of Terror (which had it's graces) but somehow there are twenty-four (24) comments on Greasy Strangler; the reviews discussion can take an iffy movie and amplify it's dubious nature in silence or make it seem a lot better than it is. [I hesitate to mention Greasy Strangler lest I invoke the 'BS artist' chain]

The Legend of Hell House, by contrast, is a terrific haunted house flick; I'm a fan of the "ancient evil meets modern science" microgenre, but that stupid ending was bumpy. You exorcise a ghost by hurting its feelings? I was waiting for Roddy McDowall to break out some Yo Mama disses.(Yo mama so ugly Jason put the mask on her!) The first 80% of the film is scary as hell, though.
