Working on it. And if expanded to include those not from the same director we can include stuff like 'The Sleazy Trifecta' - Maniac / The New York Ripper / Pieces. I also found a Reddit post with some interesting ideas that'll up the offerings quite a bit.

Only question is would everyone's preference be to include it on the lower section with a requirement to watch the entire trilogy as part of checklist completion or as an optional entry with the 'select 30' section?

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 21: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Continuing my obsession with randomly generated links - here's the subset entry I mentioned in the other thread using Spiderbite's recently added subsets-by-year Letterboxd lists, as well as alyxstarr's master list.

Watch 1(?) title from the OHMC Subset lists:
--- (insert title). (Master List 2008 - 2024) (Random Title Master List 2008 - 2024) (Random year)
(Random title by year - 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024)

Three films? I vote putting it in the "Select 30" section.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 21: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

CHECKLIST CONSTRUCTION

I'm still plugging in the new entries from suggestions while working on everything else that needs doing before October hits currently, so it's going a little slower than expected. But keep the suggestions coming.

The usual - Every entry from actors to writers is/will be updated with the exception of the permanent rotating actors (Karloff, Lee, Legosi, Price & Cushing). Anything beyond that point that's in Strong Red has been updated or is a completely new section. A few of last year's entries are still there (e.g. horror film tropes) but will eventually be updated.

The text only checklist tables 2007 - 2024. / Some previously used rotating entries.

As always, current progress can be found in the wiki link (in all three threads), which directs to this post.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 21: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Here're a few suggestions for the checklist:

Actor:
John Carradine (hasn't been used since '21)
George Zucco (hasn't been used since '15)
Lon Chaney, Jr. (hasn't been used since '11) (!)
Evelyn Ankers (never used before)

Director:
Erle C. Kenton (never used before)
Don Sharp (hasn't been used since '15)

That's all I've got at the moment; I scanned the previous checklist entries pretty quickly, so I could definitely be off on some of the years that a person last appeared on the checklist. Ankers and Kenton both have limited horror filmographies, so they may need to be paired up with someone else.

And if you haven't noticed, I'm all about the OG horror films this year.

Hey Chad, did you mean Bruno Mattei for director? He only has four credits for actor and 18 for director.

Yeah, I've gotten quite a few from them over the years. My only complaint is you can't directly link the 'Films — Live-Action' section, which also doesn't let you confine it to horror only. That's why I do the compendium posts in the other thread.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 21: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

So, I added an entry to the 'Select 30' section for ThrillerVideo that has movies hosted by Elvira. Well, it's a mixture of movies and episodes of Hammer House of Horror and Thriller, and only 24 out of the 42 titles are hosted by her. According to the Wikipedia article she "declined to be associated with slasher movies and films involving animal cruelty".

The Elvira hosted episodes are on the Elvira Vault YouTube Channel and on Archive.org.

Just caught that recommendation for Tangerine Dream as composers and heartily back it up. Not sure how many horror titles they did, if any, though.

The Keep (1983), at least. And plenty of other genre movies, like Legend (1985) and Blade Runner (1982), for example. Not a lot of horror though. Goblin would be more apropos in that regard, I think.

They did the scores to Near Dark, Strange Behavior, and Firestarter as well.

Do I need to move the OHMC "Favorites" to the optional 'select 30' section? I'm only asking because there's a total of 29 with just two new ones having been recently added from last year. I wasn't sure if people are getting tired of those or not.

Takes place in a graveyard
Includes a deal with a devil
Takes place in a desert
Takes place in a castle
Takes place in a pit
Takes place while opera is played
Stars Linnea Quigley (to complete the trilogy)

Might it work to expand 'OHMC Favorites' to 'watch a previous subset film' or even 'watch and comment on a previous subset film in the subset film thread' (building on Spiderbite's list)?
I like that item as standalone even if it is a little limited.

Sticking with a weekend date, Nazareno Cruz and the Wolf was shown at the Fantasmagoría - Festival de Cine Fantástico y de Terror de Medellín in Columbia on October 11, 2024. If you wanted a weekday date, on October 9, 1986 Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version debuted. For something having four movies this is a tough one.

Two more dates:

Shudder 10th year anniversary - October 19th is the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards 2025 live premiere
It was a dark and stormy night - on 10/10/18 Hurricane Michael made landfall in Florida as a category 5 hurricane, one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded

I like that item as standalone even if it is a little limited.
Need some more feedback on this.
