100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 7th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3
Speaking of Criterions, I don't normally buy them but with some of the blu-rays coming out, is it better to wait for some Criterion sale or just do pre-orders? I have no problem waiting if there's a good sale once or twice a year.
I did pre-order Island of Lost Souls since it fits in with the challenge. I felt it was a good enough reason.

Submissions are now open for the 31 Films Subset list. And already we're two days ahead of last year!
1. Make sure your pick(s) aren't a duplicate from the previous lists:
2. Make sure it's widely available through Netflix, online retailers, etc. and obviously not on the verge of going OOP. It does not have to be a Netflix Instant Watch title. If it is great, but don't feel you have to limit yourself to their limited selection. And let me know if it's streaming anywhere and I'll include the link when the thread goes up.
3. Try and match it up with a theme nights category so the two lists can be synced:
If you can't, not a big deal.
And as far as the selections themselves, they can be anything from mainstream to obscure or just something you feel is an underrated hidden gem that deserves more recognition. Just keep in mind that if you go too obscure your thread probably won't see much in the way of discussion.
How many of your picks gets chosen is dependent on the number of people participating. Being this is about group discussion the people take precedence over the picks. The rest is chosen via group voting and black magic.
I'll keep this open for a week so don't feel rushed.

I know the decision is ultimately up to us to decide whether what we watch is horror or not but I'm considering two movies listed as thrillers that seem very horror in nature and would appreciate some input from those that have actually seen them. As they would be new viewings to me I don't know exactly how strong the horror elements are. The movies in question are Frailty and Shutter Island

Embodiment of Evil for Icons Of Horror on Oct 18 (Coffin Joe).
I haven't seen it yet but I'm dying to and the Synapse blu is out so it is attainable.

I choose Dead and Buried which is available for streaming on Netflix.
http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/De...?trkid=4428134
It fits for days 1, 14, 22.
If I get another choice, it's Rumpelstiltskin, also available for streaming
http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Ru...?trkid=4428134
Days 14 and maybe 15 since it's listed as a b-movie

I'm going with newer films this year:
Stake Land (2010) (10/20 - Vampires)
Trollhunter (2010) (10/13 - Found Footage)
Rubber (2010) (10/1 - Cult) Edit: Netflix streaming link
Doubt they'll all be used though.

I'll go ahead and throw two suggestions out there. The People Under The Stairs which is available on netflix streaming. and The original Stepfather which unfortunately is not.
People under the stairs would probably fit as either comedy or mutants and Stepfather would fit for slashers.

Is Burn, Witch, Burn! aka Night of the Eagle still streaming? It says 'unavailable' for me, but I don't have streaming anymore. If it's still up, then it's my pick, works for October 30th. For those of you who are region-free, there's a dirt-cheap DVD of it available on Amazon UK that is highly recommended.

Nice. One reviewer called it a mixture of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Rosemary's Baby, which is pretty spot-on. Really crackling stuff. As I said, anyone with a region-free player should buy the DVD immediately - it's less than five pounds before VAT from the link I listed.

My pick for the subset is Sauna.
If more picks wind up being needed, I also suggest The Sentinel and From Within, both of which are available on Netflix streaming.

Okeydokey, tossing out my suggestions. All but two are going to be first-time viewings for me this year.

Dreamcatcher (2003) - Stephen King - Netflix
From Within (2008) - Supernatural - Netflix
Premonition (2004) - Asian Horror / Psychological Horror / Supernatural - Netflix
Scarecrows (1988) - Cult Horror - Netflix
The Fog (1980) - Supernatural - Netflix

Here are a few that I'd like to check out:
10/3 Jawsploitation - Tintorera: Killer Shark (Netflix streaming)
10/4 70s Horror Cinema - Sssssss (Netflix streaming; $5 bin at Walmart)
10/9 Asian Horror - I Saw the Devil (Netflix streaming)
10/23 Gothic Horror - The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism/Castle of the Walking Dead (Netflix streaming)
Of the four, I've only seen Torture Chamber, but it's one of my all-time favorites. It's got loads of atmosphere.

I have a personal banning of Tinoterra... not onl is it terrible... but it features a lot of animal cruelty.
As for a Pick I say The Horde... Foreign, Zombie.... good pick.
