Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day. Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.
Spoiler tags will not be needed, as it will be expected that anyone here has seen the film.
Do not read this thread if you have not seen the film, unless you don't mind the ending being spoiled for you.

Such a good flick. I heard alot about this as beinga forgotten movie, and never getting the credit it deserved.

That it was directed by a vegetarian is blatantly obvious in a number of scenes.
I think this movie was the first time I personally had heard the legend of the Wendigo (although that has shown up in other things since then).

Definitely an unfairly forgotten flick! Gore, scares, humor, what more can you ask for?

Agreed on all counts. This is an underrated gem that, for whatever reason, still has not been given its due. I wish Fox would get this out on Blu, as the current DVD is non-anamorphic. It's so insane. I ran into Jeffrey Jones at a Rolling Stones concet in LA back in 2001 and this was the film I told him I loved him in. He got a kick out of hearing that and told me that no one ever mentions the film to him. We shook hands and parted ways. A day or two later he got arrested for child pornography.

I haven't seen this in several years, but it's stuck with me - especially the great score. Robert Carlyle was creepy as hell and the whole film was just effectively "icky." Definitely an overlooked gem.
How many times did you wash your hands after you heard that?

Oh, many, many times. My friend I was with also got majorly creeped out. We still bring it up to this day. Too bad, he was such a cool guy. Telling us stories about when he used to see the Stones in the 60's and 70's on acid.

I just finished watching this. This is another of those movies that I've meant to watch for the longest time. It's been in my Netflix queue forever and this was finally the excuse to bump it up. I'm still trying to make up my mind what I really thought about it. The movie lost me a bit around the time Guy Pearce's character made it back. It maybe went a little too broad for me, and I wasn't enamored with the mystical (if that's the right word) element to the story.
But all in all, it was a good movie. I'm happy I finally got a chance to see it, even though it was on a crummy non-anamorphic DVD.

There is a plot hole in the movie when Robert Carlyle's character is tied up during the rescue party scene at the cave, but then magically untied in the next scene despite being guarded. (I wonder if something was cut out in editing that then caused this inconsistency.)

It didn't show him wriggling/cutting his ropes on a rock? It's been a while, but I could swear they showed something.
Either way, this is a great movie. It's too bad nobody ever seems to have seen it.

Nope. In one scene, he's all tied up. It cuts away for a little while and then when it returns to him, he's already untied and starting to act crazy.
