Phantasm II reviews/discussion - 2009 DVDTalk Horror Challenge Day 27
These "2009 DVDTalk Horror Challenge Day #" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 Films in 31 Days subset.
General discussion on the 2009 DVDTalk Horror Challenge goes here, your list for the Challenge goes here.
The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day. You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.
Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day. Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.
Spoiler tags will not be needed, as it will be expected that anyone here has seen the film.
Do not read this thread if you have not seen the film, unless you don't mind the ending being spoiled for you.

Watching the original right now, might pop in part 2 tomorrow. Its a blast and possibly my favorite of the series (toss up between 1 and 2). You've got to love the quad barrel shotgun and the addition of more spheres!

Could have sworn I owned this, but now that I look it's only I and III that I have. Added it to my netflix queue, so I'll be a few days late in commenting here.

Re: Phantasm II reviews/discussion - 2009 DVDTalk Horror Challenge Day 27
This is my pick, and I'm just about twenty minutes from the end and watching it again for the first time since its theatrical run (saw some of it on TV a few years back, but only a bit). I really have to sit down and watch this series from the start to finish. I still haven't watched OblIVion. This is the most relentless in terms of action. Love the effects. Love the pace. Love the nightmarish quality. So much imagination. And yes...the balls are back indeed!! The newly released DVD from Universal is a great transfer with good use of the surround speakers. I'm so happy with this one. If you've never seen it I think you're in for a treat. I actually like James LeGros in this quite a bit, but I know that's not a popular feeling.

Netflix came through in the nick of time. Received and watched this yesterday.
Of course, my OCD made me watch the original first, as I can't watch anything 'out of order'.
I completely love the original, one of the creepiest most 'atmospheric' horrors, and didn't expect to like this sequel. But I was pleasantly surprised, and now look forward to seeing the III and IV someday.
I LOVE sequels that take place the second the original ends, this and Halloween II standing out as examples.
Enjoyed the storyline, the acting was ok, and most importantly, the creepiness and tone from the original was here.
