Re: Raised by Wolves (HBO Max) -- Sci-Fi series from EP Ridley Scott -- Premieres 9/3/20

Watched the first 2 episodes over the weekend. Yeah, the production values are great, but then just about everything has great production values these days if you avoid the crap.

I've found this...

Re: The Boys (Amazon) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/4/20

Rewatched the last Season 1 episode where Homelander slices up Syrian civilians, then started in on the new stuff. This show is still awesome and hasn't lost a step!

Yeah, it definitely hasn't...

Re: Altered Carbon (Netflix) -- Season 2 Thread -- S: Anthony Mackie -- premieres 2/27/20

Too bad. I'm about half way through Woken Furies (the third book in the trilogy) and it would make a helluva good season. Maybe someone will revisit it in the future.

Re: Raised by Wolves (HBO Max) -- Sci-Fi series from EP Ridley Scott -- Premieres 9/3/20

Totally agree, but it's not going to look like any TV series.

It's going to be extremely brief and violent as the AI singularity hits, and then kills humanity by accident or because of...

Re: Yellowstone (Paramount) -- Season 3 Thread

OK I deleted my snarky diatribe because I really want to like this show, but man I think it's past its prime. Too bad.

Re: Yellowstone (Paramount) -- Season 3 Thread

Not sure you've been watching the same show. One son disavows his family and marries into the Indian Res. A daughter is an alcoholic mental case.

Then there's Jamie, the Yale(?) educated lawyer...

Re: Yellowstone (Paramount) -- Season 3 Thread

Beth is a bore, and Josh Holloway has surprisingly been a total non-entity this season. Not his fault, the writers'.

One other thing - I know I'll be in the minority here, but I just rewatched the...

Re: Brave New World (Peacock) -- S: Alden Ehrenreich -- Based on the Book -- Premieres 7/15/20

Top notch soundtrack too. Like a derivative cross between Trent Reznor's Watchmen and Daft Punk's TRON scores.

Re: Yellowstone (Paramount) -- Season 3 Thread

Don't forget horses. And punching. Lots of horses and punching.

Re: Brave New World (Peacock) -- S: Alden Ehrenreich -- Based on the Book -- Premieres 7/15/20

So, this bears little resemblence to the book, is overeagerly and ham-handedly tawdry in a basic-cable sort of way, and the writing is fine but not great.

With that out of the way, I'm liking it a...

Re: The Capture (Peacock) -- S: Holliday Grainger -- Premieres 7/15/20

This was on in Britain like a year ago. It was fine. I'd watch a season 2.

Re: Trackers (Cinemax) -- International action series -- Premieres 6/5/20

This is supposedly the first All South African-written big(-ish) budget production intended for world consumption. Made in partnership with the British, and I believe it aired in S.A. about a year...

Re: Last Show You Binged?

Rewatched S1 of Altered Carbon since I just read the book. Now I understand more about WTH was going on. :D

It's a good production...I just can't understand why they changed a few key bits of the...

Re: Better Call Saul (S5E07) -- "JMM" -- 3/30/20

Some people aren't in it for the money and they can never be satisfied attaining a certain level. It's a personality type. I've got a bit of it myself (not to Gus' extent and not as a criminal, of...

Re: Star Trek: Picard - Et in Arcadia, Ego Part 2 (S1E10) - 3/26/20

After thinking this was the greatest ST in a decade for the first 3 eps, now it's just a hate-watch like Disco. Too bad. What a waste of Stewart and the TNG cast that showed up for this.

Re: Devs (c: Alex Garland, s: Mizuno, Offerman) (FX on Hulu) -- 3/5/20

Read Tegmark's (MIT Prof.) "Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" if you want to be scared shitless about the coming AI singularity. He also touches on quantum computing. It's...

Re: The Outsider (HBO) - based on the Stephen King novel - S: Mendelsohn, Bateman - premieres 1/12/20

Sputtered is the right word. Very by-the-numbers resolution, and any mystery the "Cuco" held was completely gone by the episode halfway mark. Then just lots of exposition and getting the story...

Re: Star Trek: Picard - Nepenthe (S1E7) - 3/5/20

Good episode with two quibbles that no doubt make me a pedant. :)

1) The extra from the Tolkien movie, the guy with the sword: he bonded to Picard's cause, vowed to protect Picard, but then said...

Re: Shows that retooled/recast their 2nd seasons?

Strike Back. Season 1 had Chris Ryan's book character John Porter, then it was recast and reset as "based on" Chris Ryan's work. For the better, IMO, and it turned into one of my favorite shows at...

Re: Star Trek: Picard - Remembrance (S1E1) - 1/23/20

This is the Trek I've been waiting for, for 20 years. Outstanding.

Re: Reprisal (Hulu) -- S: Abigail Spencer -- premieres 12/6/19

The casting is weird to me. Like they could only select from frat boys attending west-coast schools or something. I really like Spencer from seeing her in Rectify, though, and I'll watch a few.
