That.... really doesn't look very good. And I'm a big fan of the book. I'd rather a talented director tackle the source material for a 2-3 hour feature, instead of a dragged out series.

Looks like a CW show for tweeners.

This is available today. All 9 episodes are up.

However you can only watch this via the paid tier.

AV Club gave it a C-...ouch. I will give it a watch soon but it sounds like it has an uphill battle to climb when it comes to finding an audience.

As I mentioned in the streaming thread I was thinking about signing up for Peacock just to binge the originals, mainly this one. I’m reconsidering that thought as this and the others released today are getting mostly average to negative reviews. I look forward to members thoughts of those who watch this.

I thought the first ep was pretty good and hope to see more soon. Solid production, ok acting, haven’t seen Solo yet, but he was ok. Will give it a go...

Re: Brave New World (Peacock) -- S: Alden Ehrenreich -- Based on the Book -- Premieres 7/15/20

So, this bears little resemblence to the book, is overeagerly and ham-handedly tawdry in a basic-cable sort of way, and the writing is fine but not great.

With that out of the way, I'm liking it a lot!

It's solid sci-fi even if it's tropey,
the CGI is fine,
and it's got a ton of really good actors making the best of it.

Quayle from Counterpart, the guy from Trackers, the guy from Solo, and the incredibly attractive woman from Downton Abbey, etc.

It moves along and it's fun.

I actually really liked the show for the first 3-4 episodes, but then it started to lose me. I stuck it out and finished it up over the weekend. Ending was pretty decent, and they left it open for a second season. Overall, not a bad first foray into Peacock. (Which is free for me as a Comcast customer)

Top notch soundtrack too. Like a derivative cross between Trent Reznor's Watchmen and Daft Punk's TRON scores.

A $100M show that almost no one watched. That's a shame. It never got any buzz to entice people to watch it. Especially in July when the pandemic was still keeping so many at home.

Did they ever air this on NBC to cross promote like CBS did with their stuff?

No, it's a Peacock Original and exclusive. I don't recall NBC promoting it.

The only way you could watch is if you're a Comcast subscriber or on the paid Peacock tier. And I know in July a lot of people weren't sold on paying for Peacock.

I'm baffled by their strategy. I used Peacock just long enough for Psych 2, which aired without ads for me.

Re: Brave New World (Peacock) -- S: Alden Ehrenreich -- Based on the Book -- Premieres 7/15/20

I have Peacock and I'm paid through next year. But, if more people would have talked about it, then maybe I would have checked it out sooner. But hence, if got dropped and was quickly forgotten.

Raised by Wolves on HBO Max got so much buzz and even that service a lot of people still don't have.

So much content keeps getting dropped. And unless it gets a lot of buzz or is a popular IP, most aren't going to watch it.

I have a free trial and I still haven’t watched anything. Probably won’t.

Not surprising their flagship title got shitcanned. Universal really botched the debut of the Peacock streaming service. The plans were confusing and it was consumer unfriendly to watch.

Update: On Peacock free tier thru Dec. 30, all 9 episodes, obviously with commercials.

It is still not great tv, but at least you don't have to pay for it.

I think Peacock is fine. They just don't have a lot of desirable content. They need to do something extra special. I'm also getting fatigued by so many streaming services. Kind of tired of paying a bunch of membership fees. HBO Max is probably the last I get for awhile.
