Same for us. Had to turn it up for dialogue moments. And then the scene about mid show when he opened up his window and saw Data outside painting, they hit us with the deepest bass note that shook the room.

I quite liked it and set up some interesting stuff with the synthetics, Romulans and hints of the Borg. I did find Spiner's very obvious wigs in the Data scenes a bit distracting, though.

I also thought it was a good start. Sure it was not all action, but it was mostly set up.

I couldn't figure out where I've seen the actor who played Picard's Romulan housekeeper before. She looked really familiar. Then I looked it up. It was Orla Brady. She actually worked with Kurtzman on Fringe years ago.

I kind of chuckled when Dahj took Picard up that roof and he was gasping for air. You don't do that to an almost 80 year old man. This isn't 1987 Picard.

A couple things I noticed. The audio was really low and some scenes I could barely make out what they were saying so I had to turn on the Roku subs. Also, they obviously formatted for air on TV in other regions because it noticeable act breaks going to commercial break. I know Discovery is also formatted that way.
It’s not what the modern audience wants, but Star Trek has never really put the action first. I kind of appreciate it personally.

Shows on CBS All Access in the U.S. are shown with commercials unless you are paying extra for the ad free CBS AA. All CBS AA originals are made to have commercial breaks. I previously had the version with commercials but have been on the ad free version for a while now. I do notice where the ad breaks would be in their original shows (Discovery, Why Women Kill, No Activity, etc.). Luckily, I'm heading into my 3rd free month so I'm not even having to pay extra.

The show is partly produced by Stewart and the writers take a lot of his input, so expect his scenes to be a lot more cerebral, and that's great. I've not much liked ther newer Treks leaning towards the action side of things.

Liked it.
The caretakers gave away that they were Romulans right away with all the smiles, humor, and non-deadpan speech

Not only that, it appears they had Scottish brogues. Romulans are the more emotional offshoots of Vulcans. When they first came on screen I was trying to figure out what race they were.

This is the Trek I've been waiting for, for 20 years. Outstanding.

So that moron Darren Franich from Entertainment Weekly, who gave The Witcher a bad review and skipped episodes, was assigned to review Picard.

They need to get rid of this guy. Another shitty review. He's a terrible writer. This guy seems to have a stick up his ass when being assigned genre TV shows. He's getting ripped to shreds in the comments.

It seemed weird even though they were Romulans to be showing emotions like that. On TNG they seemed to almost emotionless, but on this show they act more like humans with pointy ears and funny eyebrows.

Even though the one actress that plays one of the Romulan is pushing 60, she is still very atractive.

One of the few benefits of ageing is realizing you can just ignore naive young people and their stupid opinions.

I loved the first episode. This has the potential to be a great series.

1st episode was fantastic!!!!. This may turn out to be better than The Mandalorian ( which I also loved).

But then I'm assuming with medical advancements over a few centuries, someone in their early 90s in in 2300 would be like somene in their early 60s now.

Re: Star Trek: Picard - Remembrance (S1E1) - 1/23/20

I think it’s been said that with advancements in medical technology that human life expectancy in the 24th century is 120 or so. Although in TNG when McCoy was aboard the Enterprise D he was 137. So by those standards Picard is still somewhat young.

There's a commenter on there named Pedro who has over 13000 comments... wow. And I thought DVDTalkers were bad.

I just assumed they've been on Earth a long time and have acquired many human affectations. As I said earlier, they did have brogues.

Re: Star Trek: Picard - Remembrance (S1E1) - 1/23/20

So now we have two active and simultaneously running Picard threads. This one for the episode and that older preview thread. Might be confusing to some here.

Maybe the other should be renamed to be news or whatever. Mine is clearly marked as an episode thread so it shouldn’t be too confusing if people read the title and see the S1E1 and date.
