Re: Do you prefer Christopher Nolan or David Fincher movies?

Nolan is the better filmmaker/director but Fincher is much better at picking entertaining scripts. So I went with Fincher. This was super close for me since I love several Nolan films. If only Nolan...

Re: I just watched my first anime movie!

Suzume is from Makoto Shinkai, probably the most popular anime director going now with Miyazaki nearing the end. His most popular work by far is the blockbuster smash Your Name, which you should...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

I more or less agree movies have likely "peaked" in terms of massive cultural impact and are now in decline as an important facet of the common culture. The media environment has simply fractured too...

Re: Family Guy (FOX) -- Discussion Thread [merged]

I haven't watched Family Guy in years so I won't compare but American Dad is still pretty funny. I'll concede the quality has been inconsistent during the TBS years with highs and lows.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I've never seriously been into horror comics per se but I do love the moody artwork seen in Bronze Age DC horror comics.

Re: Deals Thread for Cult, Genre and/or Non-Region A Blu-Rays

Interesting little story from the DVD era. Felt like there were just far more niche DVD labels than we ever got for Blu-ray or 4K

Re: Disturbing films that made you feel dirty and ashamed after watching...

The movie felt improvised at times with a couple of disturbing scenes tossed in to "sell" the movie beyond arthouse audiences. Not recommended to anyone but the director's fans and adventurous...

Re: What anime have you watched or/are currently watching?

Totally blown away by Hell's Paradise (Jigokuraku), a 2023 anime from animators MAPPA (Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, Chainsaw Man, etc). It's another anime adaptation of a Shonen Jump manga series...

Re: OLIVE Films BOGO Sale at Deep Discount

I want to say they were managing Olive's distribution or owned a significant amount of their inventory. Either way, they must own most of the remaining Olive discs in existence outside of private...

Re: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2024

It's just a marketing scam at this point to keep the museum in the news.

Re: Suggestions wanted for unloading anime DVDs

The Craigslist idea is probably your best bet given your constraints. Or put it in one giant lot on eBay and start the bidding at 1 penny or something with shipping added on top.

Re: Question about DVD storage in cases/binders...

Honestly, depends on the binders and their quality. More familiar with their implications for CD longevity. The paper sleeves are a safer long-term option but I recognize the hassles dealing with...

Re: Kino Lorber & KL Studio Classics sales, discounts, and deals

I think Kino tries but they are simply releasing too much stuff these days to hunt down the best elements for each disc they put out.

Re: Rotten Tomatoes has a brand new layout and I don't like it.

Average reviewer on there is quite young. They don't tend to appreciate older films.

Re: FILM MASTERS - Blu-ray boutique label

Johnny Cash isn't much of an actor, unfortunately. Likely hooked on drugs during this period as well.

Re: Invincible (Amazon): animated series based on the comic by Robert Kirkman

The animation on this series is bottom of the barrel even by Western standards. It's clear they spent the entire budget on the Hollywood voice cast and musical soundtrack.

But it's been quite...

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

The truth of the matter is Amazon is purposely weeding out consumers who may not be as profitable for their business model.

Re: Ed Piskor (1982-2024) R.I.P.

That piece on Piskor is great, covering his rise and career. I don't usually pay attention to comic book social media so I was unaware of everything which had been going down in his life.
