Re: The People vs Larry Flynt (1996) D: Forman S: Harrelson

Re: Sexual Harassment/Assault & Abuse in Hollywood -- Discussion

This anecdote reminds me of Hitchcock and Vertigo. It’s pretty common knowledge at this point that he wanted Vera Miles for the lead and when she became pregnant he took it as a personal insult, like...

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

It reminds me of how many old hits are frequently re-recordings. Sam and Dave, Temptations, and the like. I never fully understood it, but it’s a rights issue thing where they don’t own the...

Re: The People vs Larry Flynt (1996) D: Forman S: Harrelson

It’s on either Netflix or Amazon prime and I just recently rewatched it. Very well done. Great performances from Harrelson and Ed Norton. Courtney Love gives her only great performance.

Re: Tom Clancy's Without Remorse (2021, D: Sollima) S: Michael B. Jordan

Yes, Red October was pretty accurate.

In the novel Without Remorse he has no family and his girlfriend gets killed by gang members and/or drug dealers and he takes revenge on them. That’s it. Oh...

That description sounds like they changed every single thing about the novel.

Re: Marilyn Manson accused of abuse.

He’s been abusing my ears for years.

Jokes aside it doesn’t surprise me at all. He’s been a weird dude forever. When he was just an opener for NIN he was already saying outrageous shit in...

Re: THIS is How You Cut a Trailer!

True about Phantom Menace.

Men Who Stare At Goats is actually a very good movie.

Both movies contain considerable discussion of using the Force

Re: THIS is How You Cut a Trailer!

There’s an obscure movie that’s actually pretty damn good called The Minus Man and it has the greatest trailer ever made. Blew me away. I thought “damn, this is the future of trailers.” Turns out is...

re: Movies that made an indelible impression on you as a kid?

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Great movie, that also inspired me to look at older animation of the 20’s and 30’s and made me realize that cartoons weren’t made just for kids under 10, but were a real...

Re: The Little Things (2021, W/D: Hancock) S: Denzel Washington, Jared Leto, Rami Malek

I’m intrigued by the angle that he’s a cop from Kern County. Small town California vs big city.

Re: Mistakes in films with great attention to detail

Despite a lot of attention to detail 2001 has a few flubs, notably when Dave is opening the door of Hal’s “brain” you can see the sleeve of his space suit ride up.

re: Top Gun: Maverick (2022, D: Kosinski) -- S: Tom Cruise

To make money at the IMAX where tickets are 50% more expensive. By being a movie you “have to see on the big screen!”

re: Top Gun: Maverick (2022, D: Kosinski) -- S: Tom Cruise

The film seems to have been filmed in a manner that demands to be seen on a big screen. I believe they used imax cameras. Watching this at home would defeat the film’s very purpose of existence.

Re: Derek DelGaudio's In & Of Itself (2021, D: Frank Oz)

Seems interesting. I’m sure it makes more sense if you watch the whole thing.

Re: Wonder Woman 1984 (Jenkins, 2020) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

My short review of WW84 is it felt like the people that mishandled the terrible ending of the first Wonder Woman film were allowed to have reign over this entire film.

And the film doesn’t deserve...

Re: Nixon (1995) (D: Stone; S: Hopkins)

The Nixon Directors Cut is way better.

Firat time I saw Nixon was on a special edition vhs. It was the theatrical cut on two tapes because it’s so long. At the end of tape two was all the deleted...
