Re: Movie Theaters

Not only cheaper, but you get better, healthier food outside. My friends and I always used to stop at the deli to get sandwiches, juice and little boxes of cookies and sneak them in in various ways...

Suggestions wanted for unloading anime DVDs

I’m going through my anime collection and realizing I have tons of titles I’ll probably never watch, so I’d like to find a home for them. We’re talking hundreds of DVDs, either complete series,...

Re: MediaOCD Announces Acquisition of AnimEigo Home Video Business

What about all the live-action Japanese samurai films AnimEigo used to carry? They had an incredible array of titles. What's going to happen to those?

What do you do with old audio equipment?

I have a decades-old phonograph stereo system: turntable, receiver and large speakers in a cabinet which broke one of its wheels when I moved it into this apartment 20 years ago. It had a slight...

Re: The Movie Critic (D: Tarantino)

I hated BLUE VELVET the first time I saw it (right when it came out) and I summed it up with one word in my journal, "Vile!," but something about its imagery stuck with me and haunted me and when it...

Question about DVD storage in cases/binders...

I don't know what they're called, but I have these little black albums that hold 12 discs in them each. They're the same dimensions as a CD and they fit on CD-sized shelves. I want to take a lot of...

Re: Portable DVD player that plays 4:3?

I've had the same problem SarahB1863 has. My original Sony Portable player worked fine for years, but it finally stopped functioning. I couldn't find a new one from Sony, so I went to Best Buy and...

Re: The Hot Spot. D: Dennis Hopper. S: Don Johnson. Jennifer Connelly. Virginia Madsen.

It's based on a '50s pulp novel and as such, it perfectly captured the mood of those books.

Re: Movies with long sequences that feel like they could be part of a separate movie

THE THREE MUSKETEERS (1948, MGM, Technicolor) starts out as a Gene Kelly swashbuckler--instead of song-and-dance numbers, he does stunts and swordfights--but then about halfway through it becomes a...

Re: In Memoriam...Louis Gossett Jr. (1936-2024)

The first performances I think of in reviewing his career are his cop portrayals in THE LAUGHING POLICEMAN (1973) and THE CHOIRBOYS (1977) and the preacher with a secret he plays in J.D.'S REVENGE...

Re: Movies with long sequences that feel like they could be part of a separate movie

Rick's Lancer shoot is one of the best parts of the movie and is even longer in the book version, taking up several chapters, which are the best parts of an already great book. In fact, a whole...

Re: Movies with long sequences that feel like they could be part of a separate movie

Not quite the same thing, but when I saw BATMAN AND ROBIN (1997), it seemed to me that all of the major stars behaved like they were acting in completely different movies.

re: Godzilla Minus One (2023) + No Home Video Release Yet

Re: The 96th Academy Awards --> 2024 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

There were a couple of botched comedy bits but the one major faux pas I noticed was Al Pacino not reading the ten Best Pic nominees and going straight to the envelope.

Re: The 96th Academy Awards --> 2024 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

Ended before 10:30! Which is really 9:30 (EST) because of Daylight Savings Time this morning.

The In Memoriam segment was really short. But I guess if they'd done it TCM style it would have gone...
