Re: DARK PHOENIX: 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray - 09/17/2019

No doubt it would be a cheap Mexico print mainly for distribution through Walmart stores. I've never had much luck finding quality releases in Black Friday inventories.

Re: DARK PHOENIX: 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray - 09/17/2019

Unless it goes straight into the bargain bin, I'll probably skip it. I'm pretty happy with the original trilogy and Days of Future Past. I'm trying to convince myself that subsequent productions are...

Re: Merging "DVD Talk" and "HD Talk" into a single forum

I'm under the impression that DVDTalk is supposed to be a distinct entity from bluray.com or other sites that focus solely on HD content. That distinction becomes a lot less clear if older content is...

Re: Dvds with double format

They're pretty common, especially in bargain bins. Although this is the first time I've ever heard the term "flipperdisc."

The practice doesn't apply only to the same film in different aspect...

Re: Arcade 1UP

I would be impressed if someone put out a modern Gradius cabinet. But that's a Konami license. I'm not sure they would want to get on board with these kinds of re-releases.

A DIY project might be...

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

Strange. The Disney releases I've seen always had too much of a soft glow to them. And it's definitely not my video equipment.

Re: Last DVD you watched?

They didn't retain that in the 1.5 edition? I believe the Spider-Man gag was hidden somewhere in the extras menus. Could also be the case for other releases.

Re: Have you officially stopped buying compact discs?

Fortunately, major labels don't produce much content that's actually worth owning in the first place.

Re: Last DVD you watched?

The classic live-action X-Men film. I have a copy of the original single-disc widescreen release minus any commentary tracks. They still managed to cram a fair bit of special features on the DVD,...

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2019 Blu-ray releases

Is it just me, or is anyone else highly suspicious of classic animation on Blu-ray? I'm almost certain all of these types of releases are poor upscales. The editors may not have access to any decent...

Re: First DVD you ever owned

Coincidentally, some of the earliest DVDs I got were the special editions of the TNG films in 2-disc format. I still have Generations and First Contact.

I never did care for TOS or any of its...

Re: What Are You STILL Waiting For?!?!

Well, since the thread has already been bumped...

A proper U.S. release of Tarkovsky's Stalker. At least, I'm unaware of any releases in my country. I had to import a suspicious South Korean...

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I think you're referring to a Korean-Japanese war film, as I have this very same film on Blu-ray. But there was another Well Go film coincidentally named Assassin, which is in fact in Mandarin.

Re: Do you ever think you’ll watch all the movies in your collection before you die?

I already have - multiple times in the cases of some films or series.

I never understood the concept of having a backlog. Is it not standard practice to watch a DVD or Blu-ray shortly after...

Re: Have you officially stopped buying compact discs?

Dead format? It's not like someone purchasing a VHS tape in 2019. Retailers worldwilde still stock CDs and will probably continue to do so for some time.

Digital distribution is convenient, but...

Re: What Are You Reading? (August 2019)

As I Lay Dying and The Sound and the Fury. Trying to get caught up on my Southern gothics. I've read most everything by McCarthy, but it only recently occurred to me that I should probably try...

Re: Columbia Fullscreen DVD Re-issues

I'm still finding fullscreen releases today, but always in bargain bins. I recently picked up a dual-sided MouseHunt disc with widescreen on one side and fullscreen on the opposite.

Interestingly,...

Re: New user: Restrictions on posting and formatting

Scratch my last reply. It looks like the system finally bumped up my posts-per-day limit. There's no present indication of what the new limit is though.

Indeed. I was tempted to stop logging...

Re: Which video game console do you have the most games for?

Probably my PS1. I have a huge library of games spanning exclusives from two regions. The appeal for me is arcade collections and other retro junk that finally started to see home release around the...

Re: New user: Restrictions on posting and formatting

Logging out and logging back in revealed some additional control panel options, but my daily post limit is still restricted to just 2 posts.

This is my final allowed post for the day, so once...

Re: Which old console generations do you still play games from?

Third and fifth generations for me. I have hardware dating all the way up to the sixth generation, but nothing more recent than that.

Mostly, I just find that older generations of consoles are...

Re: What Are You Playing? (August 2019)

I'm more into retro gaming, so Lode Runner. Not the recent Steam / Switch / Android iterations, but the classic home console ports and sequels - Hyper Lode Runner, Hudson's Famicom and PCE releases,...

Re: How do you play your games?

Sitting or squatting. I do a lot of squatting with idle activities since I tend to take frequent breaks to alternate between different household tasks.

Incidentally, most of my gaming involves...
