They decided to merge ALL the forums together into one super forum. The site will be renamed "Pangaea."

At our current activity level, that’d be fine actually. I used to care about having organized subforums, but now I just hit ‘new posts’ and never go to specific subforums.

What ever happened to merging the forums? Did that fall through?

International DVD Talk should be merged with DVD Talk. That forum is dead.

I'll see if we can merge International into the regular DVD forum, but our business team nixed merging HD and DVD.

Re: Merging "DVD Talk" and "HD Talk" into a single forum

I'm under the impression that DVDTalk is supposed to be a distinct entity from bluray.com or other sites that focus solely on HD content. That distinction becomes a lot less clear if older content is suddenly getting merged into all-encompassing "HD" sections. In fact, it might even be a source of confusion to new visitors. After all, the site is called DVDTalk, not Blu-rayTalk or StreamingTalk or 4KUltraHDTalk.

Whether or not anyone might consider DVD an obsolete format, it still stands to reason that the Internet probably needs at least one active corner for those who still purchase, trade or sell DVDs. It might seem a bit reactionary, but I would sooner propose removing all HD content from the site before it completely takes over. Although it's probably too late for that.

I can see combining International DVD Talk with something else. There’s barely any traffic in that subsection, and that’s saying something for us.

DVD is a stagnant medium. Infact I would go as far to say it's a medium for old folks that don't believe in upgrading to HD or 4K, 8K etc

Things evolve. Sites must adapt to changes if they want to progress.

I do agree that it's not a good idea to mix DVD and HD together and keep those aisles isolated for better organizing and finding stuff.

In the future DVD forum can be a sub-forum under the main HD forum.

Was renaming HD Talk discussed? To make it clearer it covers Blurays and 4K UHD titles? Maybe even moving it up on the forum listing page above DVDs?

^Still relevant. At the very least be on the lookout for whatever the post UHD format will be with a goal of doing this.

In regards to the forum, I recommend merging them but creating another forum that is specifically for challenges/Prizes/Contests. With a sticky where people post all movie studio contests for forum members to enter.
