Epix

Skip this one

It looks like Kelsey Grammer has entered the John Cusack direct to home video career.

Maybe the first movie role for Paris Jackson

HBO

The ending was kind of ridicolous

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Scream (2022) — Okay addition to the franchise has some good kills and the acting at least was serviceable and nice seeing the legacy characters again. The killer's motivations did feel a bit 5 years ago (to me, though I don't do reddit or really other social media platforms) but fine I guess and similar to the social commentary from Scream 4. I'd rank this third in the franchise I suppose, behind the original and Scream 2 (for all that movie's flaws, it has a soft spot for me). Not great but worth watching once. ***¼/***** (4K Ultra HD)

Directed by the late Lynn Shelton

A indie worth checking out

The Power of the Dog

Probably late to the party on this one, but it merits all the hype imo.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Rest Stop (2006) — Straight-to-video had a simple but solid premise going in but throwing in a clear supernatural element (i.e. a phantom, immortal driver and vivid, interactive hallucinations) really turned me off. I will say Jaimie Alexander (in what looks like only her second feature film) wasn't bad. Watchable I guess but ultimately doesn't work. **¼/*****

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

2 Guns (2013) — Entertaining enough action-thriller, feels like a "Spy vs. Spy" movie. Think if not for Denzel Washington or even Mark Wahlberg, this would've been a wholly forgettable film something Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films (Out of Death, Midnight in the Switchgrass and Fortress to name a few) is now known for. ***½/*****

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Sliver (1993) — Some steamy scenes I expect from a 90s erotic thriller and for the most part was entertaining if not ridiculous premise, though acting wise Sharon Stone was fine though. Nothing really memorable compared with Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction or Wild Things, the latter the best of trashy thrillers. Still, never found myself bored and a decent twist at the end, so there's that. **¾/*****

Maybe a Lifetime type movie but with better acting and Meester even without makeup is nice to look at.

I own this

I don't think it was as bad as the reviews and it had a great cast.

It is not Raging Bull but still a story worth telling.

Maybe they could have casted somebody other than Usher for Sugar Ray Leonard but this was not his story.

Watched it over the weekend. Not slow - that is the old-fashioned movie gimmick called character development and background. Yeah it needed more car chases and fist fights.

We enjoyed it immensely nevertheless!!

The Uninvited (2009) — Okay psychological thriller featuring a fine performance by Emily Browning. This is one I saw back in '09 and pretty much feel the same way I did back then. Nothing great but worth checking out I suppose. ***/*****

Star Trek: The Motion Picture 4K Director's Version
This is the best version of the movie so far and anybody that's ever taken issue with the pacing and such should absolutely give this another shot. Plus, the FX have been re-done in 4K and the V'Ger craft looks like there's an actual ship there now.

Showtime

It is worth seeing though maybe the kid can be annoying but Phoenix was terrific in this and interesting to see LA in black and white.

I don't think it was as bad as the reviews though it had the potential to be great or very good with that cast.

I have not seen the original version of this.

The Big Racket (1976) — Some really disturbing scenes and real bastard villains kind gets undercut with some laughable slow-motion shots, especially at the end with paintballs hitting various characters. Still, a decent Italian crime-drama that kept my attention. ***¾/*****

Chloe (2009) — Well shot erotic-thriller by Atom Egoyan featuring three good performances from Julianne Moore, Amanda Seyfried (both sharing a steamy sex scene for a mainstream film) and Liam Neeson. Also has a tragic element with Seyfried's character. This is one I've had in my collection for a while but never got around to watching. ***½/*****
