Second time I saw this after it came out in 2019
Eisenberg was great but that is not a shock since he always excels in his roles and Nivola was scary.

Starz
This was a weird movie and a mashup of a Hallmark and faith movie with prostitution mixed in.
WTF?

Hulu
It got horrible reviews but I enjoyed it and watching Woodley glammed up in a school girl outfit wow.

Insidous: The Red Door Sony Blu-Ray
Starring/Directed by Patrick Wilson
Josh Lambert and his son, Dalton, have been hypnotized to forget their previous encounters with demonic forces. However, nine years later their forgotten Past intrudes on their troubled Present, leaving them seeking answers.
This chapter focuses more on family drama than scares and I just found it really dull. Nice sound design, though, even during the opening credits.

I don't often laugh out load while watching movies alone but this one gets a few laughs out of me every time. I lived in a four-plex out at the Eastern Beaches for awhile and I always like seeing Toronto as Toronto.

The Nun II (2023)
Marginally better than The Nun (2018) but that really isn't saying much.
It had some strong visuals but felt directionless and over-reliant on jump scares.
A bit surprised to see that Akela Cooper (Malignant, M3GAN) was behind the script, as the material feels uninspired in comparison to other films she's written for.

Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)
Is it worth watching for Alexandra Daddario? Yes.
Is it the worst film in the franchise? Probably.

The Creator and Saw X over the last few days.
I really liked both. I thought Saw X was one of the best of the Saw series.
Only a few have seen The Creator in this forum, but neither enjoyed it as much as me. One poster here thought it was a mess. But, that's cool. Entertainment is always subjective.

Gorky Park Kino Lorber Blu-Ray
William Hurt, Brian Dennehy. Directed by Michael Apted
A Moscow police investigator relentlessly pursues the solution to a triple homicide which occurred in Gorky Park. He finds that no one wants him to solve the crime.
A fairly standard Procedural, except that it's set in Moscow, which makes it quite different. I saw this in the theater back in Christmas of '83, and I wished it had done better. Probably the wrong kind of film for that time of year. I've always enjoyed it. James Horner's score works overtime to pump energy into even the most pedestrian scenes. My favorite story about the film is that William Hurt worked on perfecting a proper Russian accent for his role, but the director vetoed it because (I assume) he wanted Hurt to blend with all the British actors playing Russians with their native British accents. Hurt's odd accent remains the biggest ding on his performance.

The Creator
John David Washington. Directed by Gareth Edwards 2023.
Excellent film. It certainly brings to mind any number of other films, but it has its own identity as well. Very emotional at times but earned. I was impressed with Edwards' ability to make his film look like it's much more expensive than it actually was (though it's still an expensive picture). Well-cast with a lot of nice performances, though I was particularly impressed with Allison Janney, who was last person I'd expect to see as a battle-hardened soldier.

The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)- good sequel. I didn’t realize how little the Bride is actually in the movie. Some odd moments with things like the mini people in jars. Overall enjoyable.
Get Out- I’ve seen Jordan Peele’s other two movies but hadn’t watched this one before last night. It was alright I guess. A bit overhyped in my view.

North by Northwest. I rented it in the 1990s and didn't like it much. I watched it again and enjoyed it. I think that the first time I couldn't get past the silliness of the story. This time I rolled with it and had a great time.
Alice, or the Last Escapade / Alice ou le dernier fugue (D: Chabrol, S: Sylvia Kristal). Alice leaves her husband and drives off into the rain at night. Her car breaks, and when she asks for help she welcomed into a run-down manor house. In the morning, no one is there. After that she meets some strange men who aren't helpful. The movie is more of a mood piece than a story. Not great, but I enjoyed it in a mellow way. (Tubi)

A Force of One Amazon Prime
Chuck Norris. Directed by Paul Aaron. 1979
To help discover the identity of a karate killer, the police enlist the aid of karate champion Matt Logan.
This was Chuck Norris's second starring role, and the first of his movies I saw in a theater. I might have felt short-changed at the time (it's a PG action film, after all), but I've come to appreciate over time. It's a basic Police Procedural, with a veteran cast and Norris playing a role pretty close to himself. The always reliable Clu Gulager gives a Master Class in "under-playing".

Last night I watched New Nightmare and Scream VI. I enjoyed both of them more than I thought I would. Although, I do feel like they can stop making more Scream movies. It's getting to be too much.
