My first week and already I've contributed to derailing the thread.

So my girlfriend watched me play a bit tonight. Her first comment was after I sniped someone and she said "That was cool." I then proceeded to have my ass handed to me many times, and her comments turned into "You're really bad at this, aren't you" and then "You do understand that if you're waving a sword around (It's a knife, sweetheart") and they have a flamethrower that you're going to lose, right?" "Look, are you surprised you just died, why are you waving your sword ("Again, it's a knife, sweetheart.") around when that guy has a rocket launcher?"

I then tried to impress her by standing at the top of the ladder and "swording" everyone who came up, but it was too late. I had lost her.

Mine usually just says I'm a tool...mostly because I'm randomly saying "mmmm....balls" and "wheeee!"

poor nic...he'll be picking balls out of his teeth all week...didn't mean to single him out...purely coincidence.

Every time I had my balls out, he was right there ready to eat them.

This was a lot of fun. My skills still need some polishing, but I'll definitely be on next week.

Good games today. Sorry I had to leave early unexpected. Again, I hope I did not frustate anyone today.

You were definitely kicking ass early on, but no, you were fine. You've been ranking up though...noticed the new duds.

Agreed that the games were fun tonight. I had some great laughs.

I'm glad you had fun. We're all pretty moderately skilled, and most of us only play with this group. I'd encourage playing on the rookie servers to bone up, but don't ditch the game because of the behavior you see there.

I think I just got BALLED again. I seriously think I got BALLED about 30 times. I will not be on much in the next 3 weeks. I will be away for work. I might make it on the 24th depending if I make it home in time.

I haven't ranked up in a looong time. I barely play now (any games, not only Warhawk) and that needs to be fixed. Something has been bugging me lately. There are times I put on a game on my PS3 and it freezes! Have to reset and everything works fine. Hope my 60GB isn't choking.

I backed up about a month ago...probably need to do it again.

That said, I think it depends on the software a bit. Fallout 3 freezes a bit for me, and I think LBP did some back in the day, but that's really about it. If Warhawk froze, I'd be worried.

I vacuumed all of the vents on my 60GB the other day...starting to get paranoid.

Also...I agree with her...it's a sword...or at least a machete.

Whoever I blew up with an air mine -- sorry about that. I must have accidentally picked it up, and when I ran out of missiles it just flew out, I tried to blow it up with bullets, but whoever you are got caught in the blast.

No worries. It happens to me every now and then, as the Warhawk will automatically default to the next available weapon. There's nothing more disconcerting than trying to shoot chaff to avoid a missile and instantly jumping into the TOW camera because you don't have any chaff.

Oh yeah, I'll just...wait...what...oh, fuck I'm dead.

Random thoughts that went through my head last night:

• I seem to keep running into Slider in the lobby. I hope he's not getting annoyed.
• I have maybe one shot with the tank on a Warhawk before I get lit up. I think each week I'm getting a little closer.....maybe.

• I help Flip out by protecting him as he has the flag, take out a dude who's attacking him, and run right behind him. He takes off in a jeep without me. *Sigh*

That's what happens every time I take to the air, my friends.

To counter Warhawks on foot (or in a tank) always always carry a rocket launcher...and in a tank, switch to the rocket launcher before you get in, so it will automatically be equipped when you hop out.

Are BALLS the new TOW? I don't think they get used (successfully anyway) as often as they seem to since we always announce the dropping of balls. They're actually fairly hard to use accurately, as I'm sure flip will confirm.

On a couple of maps, I tried to stay on the ground, but I can't cede complete air superiority to the other team. They'll just pick us apart from the air. Both Z and Flip have gotten decent, and Digi is as good or better than me.

Playing Fallout (again) isn't helping me keep up with the buttons any.

You were quiet last night. Hope you're not getting frustrated. I was glad to see you hang out past the snow map, though.

Yeah, uh, I actually thought you died in that 'plosion. It wasn't until I was already in flight that I realized you were back there waving at me. (Hi, chew!) If it makes you feel any better I got 'ploded ten seconds later by a Warhawk. So really, I saved your skin.

The biggest problem for me is that I'm not working the hover/flight switching well. I'll press triangle and try to get in close before I shoot my weapon, then when somebody locks onto me I press triangle again instinctively and it slows me down instead of letting me swerve out of the way. haha

Ha, not at all. I noticed that I seemed to be the only one using rocket launchers in the lobby. Or so I think, I was checking the death notices in the corner and didn't see many used but I may have missed them.

You're actually doing the right thing. You can't dodge anything locked on in hover mode. The combo would be triangle and double-tap R2 for a boost....maybe followed by some chaff.

It sounds compicated, but it becomes kind of second nature.

Rocket launcher is tough in DM because they are easy to dodge...unless you're really good at aiming at people's feet.
