Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

Good games last night, the 3x2 CTF games were really fun, Zones not so much. I was just happy I was able to dish out enough balls for everyone to get a taste.

Couple of things I noticed:

1> Destroyed capital zones is no good unless you have like 20 people, otherwise it is just a game of hot potato flying back and forth with very little actual conflict unless you explicitly go hunting for it
2> Chew, you can only return your flag if you are out of your vehicle. I saw at least once where you were in your tank trying to return the flag, but in order for that to work you actually have to be outside of the tank. Also, another pointer would be to drive your vehicle as close to your destination as possible. On that Tau Crater map you drove your tank 50 yards from the flag and then got out and walked...I was on foot and would have been shredded by your tank, but instead I was able to easily hold you off
3> Z, you have definitely gotten much better. The 2x3 games were very good matchups because you were always in the right place at the right time
4> Flip and steve were kicking my ass in the warhawks and while Flip tried to ball me on numerous occasions he could never quite close the deal
5> Number of times TOW'd: 0
6> Number of games played by frizby: 0
7> Funniest moment that I did not witness was when I had the flag and Flip was going to TOW me, but Z shot him down while the TOW was in flight which caused it to explode in mid flight, right on Chew for the team kill...and smooth sailing all the way back to my base. Awesome, thanks for the assist

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

Had a fun time last night for the first few maps I could play on. I was totally cool with the first map. Thought it was a lot of fun. A lot of anticipation would build in between seeing people that when I finally did see someone, I would almost jump out of my seat.

But that next CTF, with Zeidos on sniper and Flip in the air was brutal. I tried my best to defend and Chew tried his best to capture the flag, but I don't think we got a single point.

So thanks for hosting even with frizby out of town.

I had thought the flag returns quicker if you're actually standing (and/or jumping) by it. Given the way the game was going, I wasn't about to stand defenseless in the middle of the road jumping up and down.

It did eventually return to the base without me getting out of the tank.

Yeah, that was dumb.

I hope you enjoyed first hand perspective on my "spawn, jump into a vehicle, blammo, respawn, repeat x100" show that entire map.

Well, if you are in your vehicle it doesn't do anything to speed up the return of the flag at all as the flag will return after some time if noone picks it up. Effectively you could have driven away completely and it still would have been returned in the same amount of time assuming that we never picked it up again.

In that case I would recommend that you sit just outside the tank and just be aware and ready to jump back in your tank. Certainly just after you killed me you would have been safe outside of your tank for a good 10 seconds, especially if Z was in a warhawk which you can see where he is at all times by looking at your map...that way you can better anticipate how soon someone may be approaching.

btw...jumping doesn't make it return any faster, but it helps pass the time.

Though I think you're going to have to load this other snow map for later in the evenings. It was excellent for 5 or 6 people.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

My run-ins with digi tend to be very short, with one of us dying very quickly. I don't think I keep him busy, but I do my best to keep him honest...maybe with one eye to the sky.

Anyway, I'm glad you guys had fun, and I wish I could have made it. Drove 12 hours for a dinner. Ugh.

Which snow map?

On that team deathmatch I was absolutely no match for you at all, digi. On the Warhawk, on foot, on a vehicle...nothing!

When we were on the jeep, on the DLC map, I got lost!!! I thought there was a road looking at the map but no.. I had to get out of bounds and get us killed.

You were all over the map yesterday, the only thing I could do was assist and assist

Hope you guys weren't

I don't remember the name of the map. I checked Warhawk wiki but they don't have the names of the maps for the expansions. It was a straight, smallish map with APCs. I'd have to look it up on my saved map list in the game when I get the chance... but it's probably not too hard to figure out.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

There's one between the village and a base that we've played CTF on before, but I think you'd remember that one. Hmmmm.

As long as you have plenty of people, small maps can be fun...but if we get shorthanded, it could get ugly...espectially with APCs.

I'm just a smidge better with a TOW than Flip.

But it sounds like you absolutely dominated in my absence!

I just finally put the logistics of this together in my head (who's on which team)...and that is f'ing hilarious!

...provided you aren't Chew.

The first snow map we used included the village in the middle, with the bases immediately SE and NW of the town.

The new map still included the village in the middle. But, to get to the bases you take the roads out of the village, a bridge over the frozen lake, and end up at the icon in the middle there (SW and NE of the village, about the same distance away as the bases on the previous map). That's the full map, it's danger zone beyond your base.

Got it...shouldn't be too hard to find. It looks pretty big though...maybe even too big...but I'll load it up.

And FYI for everybody, I'll always do requests for maps...just understand that when picking the map size, there is a delicate balance between fun and aggrevating.

The maps that have become regulars have done so largely because they work.

Agreed.

I really only added two odd maps last week. The Zones map was a fun change of pace... but it was nothing more than a curio. It was just too much flying back and forth. And a lot of one-on-one action vs. digi.

I remember the snow map being smaller, but maybe it's because it's just so linear... and I was flying the whole time trying to protect flag-nabbers.

That pic is the complete snow map. Apparently, my description wasn't good enough.

The section we played Tuesday isn't any bigger than the other snow map we've been using.

1) Usual Snow map

2) Tuesday's new map

It was damn funny... because when it happened, I had no idea wtf went down. I know I wasn't anywhere near the target. I was riding a low missile because I had it on the right trajectory and didn't want to screw it up. Then I get ploded and TEAMKILLS chew pops up on the screen. It took me a moment to process... and in that time frame, chew freaks out because this was only one map after I TOW'd him when we were actually on opposite teams.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

To me, about 1 minute of drive-time from flag to flag feels about right for our group. It gives a reasonable amount of time to chase down the flag and provides nice tense minute for the flag-bearer.

Anything bigger gives Warhawks too big of an advantage because they cover ground so fast, and anything smaller favors tanks because they can grab and plant a flag before the defending team can respawn and get sufficiently armed to take down a tank.

Fine balance.
