Re: MaXXXine (2024, D: Ti West) -- X sequel -- S: Mia Goth

I agree that Pearl was slower paced than X - but still thought it was excellent.

I felt that Mia Goth deserved an Academy Award nomination just based on her 8 1/2-minute monologue near the end of...

Re: 40th Anniversary of Alien - May 25

My Chinese bootleg copy appears to be comedy gold.

Re: Immaculate (2024, D: Mohan) S: Sydney Sweeney

Re: Reacher (Amazon) -- Season 2 Thread -- premieres 12/15/23

If it is her, the only solution is to have her do the Game of Thrones Walk of Shame ;)

Re: Reacher (Amazon) -- Season 2 Thread -- premieres 12/15/23

He's got a pension and a bank account - so he's not broke.

Maybe he bench-presses dumpsters to keep in shape? That, or his frequent physical abuse of the bad guys keeps him in shape ;)

Re: Reacher (Amazon) -- Season 2 Thread -- premieres 12/15/23

There is definitely more exposition in the dialogue this season.

I did enjoy the conversation as Reacher was buying the guns.

Re: Obliterated (Netflix) -- Action/Comedy series from the makers of Cobra Kai -- Premieres 11/30/23

I had the following thoughts on this:

The humor was juvenile.
The situations the characters ended up in were outrageously contrived.
Haggerty coming to save the day at the end was just too...

Re: The Killer (2023, D: Fincher) S: Fassbender - Netflix

Two things that stayed with me after the movie:

WWJWBD? Loved that.

Borrowing from the Jack Reacher novels - "the killer said nothing."

Re: The Witcher (Netflix) - Season 3 Thread - premieres 6/29/23

The scheming during the Conclave Ball was amazing.

Tilda Swinton.

Re: Infinity Pool (2023, D: B. Cronenberg) - S: Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth

I 100% agree with this. The first act was both disturbing and intriguing. After that, it devolved into a series of connected - and disconnected - visuals.

I did like the jarring ending, though,...

Re: Infinity Pool (2023, D: B. Cronenberg) - S: Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth

I've got tickets to see it tomorrow - for $5 with free popcorn.

Worth the $5 just to get away from my wife and teenage son for 2 hours ;)

Re: Runaway . still a good movie but it can get pretty scary

What I remember most about the movie: Gene Simmons, killer robots, and Kirstie Alley taking off her bra.

re: Armageddon Time (2022, W/D: James Gray) S: Hopkins, Hathaway, Strong, Repeta, Webb

I saw the thread title and thought - a sequel to Armageddon?

Apparently not.

Re: The Invitation (2022, D: Thompson) -- S: Nathalie Emmanuel

I thought that the movie had too much build-up to the finale - and a rushed finale.

I think I would have enjoyed it more if the conclusion at the estate was more drawn out. The conclusions to the...

Re: JAWS re-release

Agreed that the 3D wasn't overdone in the re-release.

I saw the movie during its initial theatrical release. Now that I'm older, I spent more time enjoying the details in the film.

One things I...

Re: Beast (2022, D: Kormákur) S: Idris Elba, Sharlto Copley

Maybe he's the Michael Caine of this generation of actors. One of Caine's best-known quotes:

I have never seen it (Jaws 4) but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that...

Re: Crimes of the Future (2022, D: Cronenberg) S: Mortensen, Stewart, Seydoux

I find the red-band trailer to be both horrifying and disgusting.

I'm in.

Re: The Northman (2022, D: Eggers) S: Kidman, Skarsgård, Dafoe, Taylor-Joy, Hawke, Bang, Björk

After seeing this movie, I was ready to strip down to a loincloth and kill a deer with my bare hands.

My wife convinced me that putting my jacket back on and stopping for pizza on the way home was...

Re: Antlers (2021, D: Scott Cooper, EP: del Toro) S: Keri Russell, Jesse Plemmons

I think we've become accustomed to the "Happy Meal" approach from studios:

"Here's your drama/action/horror meal - with a side of humor"
