Re: Re Selling Used Dvds-Is there a market?

tax write-offs may not be a possibility for most of us, though. When the tax code was changed a year or two back, a lot of the things previously allowed as charitable deductions were done-away with.

Re: Are most dvd players compatible with dvd+r?

I think many older players had potential issues with "plus R" blanks, though.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

I'm not sure about the last couple series, but with Tennant/Smith, the Christmas Specials typically get added to the following series's release, rather than the previous series ("Christmas invasion"...

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

Maybe the 580 minute runtime on the UK label is taking bonus features into account, and the 510 minute time stated for the US release is only counting the episodes themselves?

The US sets should...

Re: Best printer

Personally, I think a laser printer (toner rather than ink) is the best option. However, I work in a print shop, so it's easy for me to say that since I have easy access to nice production laser...

Re: Avengers (1960s UK TV)?

You can get them remastered on blu-ray in the UK. I think they're Region-B locked, though.

Re: Lost In Space: The Complete Classic Series - formatted for widescreen

The whole argument of making a 50-year-old television show widescreen "to appeal to a younger generation" is laughable in and of itself. Very few millennials would even give any show this old sa...

Re: Two Guys and A Girl - bootleg set?

Only problem there would be that, being in PAL, it would be affected by the episodes running 4% faster than they should (most noticeable in the audio), so that would be trading one set of problems...

Re: What were your first VHS/Betamax/Laserdisc/DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray titles?

Like Alan, hard to believe I haven't posted on this, yet.

I guess I'll go in chronological order of my having something on that particular format....

CED (1982)
The very first system I bought...

Re: Buying DVD cases. Where can I buy them?

Yeah, about the biggest cases I seem to be able to find reasonably-priced are 10 to 12-disc cases. No "Epik-Pak" cases.

Re: Sony free regions

if you're talking DVD regions, you might be able to find a hack. If you're talking about blu-ray regions, you're probably out of luck. Almost all BR region-free solutions are a hardware modification,...

Re: Thor triple pack bluray?

Maybe some of the menus, etc. are in PAL rather than HD? I would also have included bonus features, but I don't think these UK Marvel releases with a single disc per movie have bonus features.

I...

Re: Benny Hill

The US/NTSC-release episodes and UK/PAL-release episodes are identical except the UK (and Australian) DVDs include the "ad breaks" (the title screen and music playing in/out the commercial break),...

Re: Benny Hill

PAL to NTSC conversion doesn't cause a time loss when it comes to US television shows. The phenomenon of 4% "PAL Speedup" only applies when you convert 24fps film masters (US movies and US TV shows)...

Re: Best other region blu ray suggestions

it really depends on what you're into: foreign releases of US films, foreign films/TV not available in the US, US television not available in the US, etc.

Re: The Goodies: The Complete BBC Collection

At least the black-and-white episodes have had their long-missing censor clips re-instated (they had resided in the Australian censor's office for decades, and since Australia is where the B/W prints...

Re: Buying DVD cases. Where can I buy them?

I used to use Polyline (http://www.polylinecorp.com) 'back in the day', when I was buying tons of VHS cases, and later, DVD ones. The thing with Polyline is you make out better buying multiple cases...

Re: Never buy a 2 disc DVD special edition DVD of a movie from a pawn shop

Exactly. I never buy secondhand sets (especially DVDs) that I cannot inspect. Not just for correct contents, but to also ensure the discs aren't all scratched up.

A reputable shop shouldn't mind...

Re: DVD's with no region code

Some discs are either mutlipe-regions (like 2+4) or "all", even though the outer packaging might only display a single region (like "2").

If the disc is a legitimate one (i.e. not a bootleg), I'm...

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

Thank you for contacting BBC DVD Support.

We will be offering replacements for the errors on Disc 3 (The...

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

The missing documentary is The Doctor Who Times, described as "an exploration of contemporary British television".

I'm assuming contemporary to 1974/75 (i.e. examining what else was on during the...

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

Here's some more bad news for buyers of the US set: there is a 40-minute documentary that is on the UK set but is NOT on the US set, because of music clearance issues.

It wasn't that the music was...

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

There has been reported an "out of phase" issue with episode 1 of "Sontaran Experiment", but not with anything else.

That is the only episode with reported problems. Probably explains the "low...

Re: How Do You Know If You Get a Bootleg DVD or Blu Ray? (serious answers please)

it could have also been a customer-opened (and returned) item, which would also mean re-shrinkwrapped.

This is not uncommon on Amazon (even "fulfilled-by" orders). Around the holidays, I ordered...
