Not interested in any of that box set but legitimately glad to see it since it means continuing physical release support from a major studio.

Re: UHD release announcements
I was happy to support Vol 1 as there were 4 titles I was interested in, but this one is not doing it for me. I’d love Taxi Driver and I’d buy Social Network as a separate release, but don’t really want the others and I don’t know if they’d even sell well if I sold them off separately.

I guess it's time to put my money where my mouth is. Anatomy of a Murder is exactly the sort of movie I was hoping for on the format but never thought we'd get. Pretty sure I voted for it on the Sony poll. That and Social Network are all time favorites. Taxi Driver is Taxi Driver, but those other two? No thanks. I mean they're both fine, but nothing I need in my collection even on standard Blu ray. At the very least I suppose I wouldn't be double dipping on those.

Re: UHD release announcements
Excited for Taxi Driver and Anatomy. I loved Social Network when it came out but haven’t revisited in probably ten years. It will be interesting to see how that’s aged now that social media has taken over the world. I’m sure I’ve seen Stripes somewhere along the way, but couldn’t tell you a thing about the movie you wouldn’t know from the cover. Probably one of those I’ll watch and wonder why I’d never watched it more. Couldn’t care less about Sense and Sensibility or Oliver!
All that said, loved the first set so might as well pick this up too. Looks like Deepdiscount has the best price at a little over $100 right now.

The set is tricky because the price came down a bit on the first one after a week or three.

Re: UHD release announcements
I think The Social Network is more likely to age poorly now that it's better known how completely fabricated Aaron Sorkin's "biographies" are.

Re: UHD release announcements
Basically, all of Sorkin's bio-pics (Social Network, Moneyball, Charlie Wilson's War, Steve Jobs, Trial of the Chicago 7) are 80-90% fictional, conjured purely from his imagination of what he thinks these people would have done and would have said if they'd been "Aaron Sorkin characters" in one of his TV shows. He doesn't even try to disguise it, honestly.

I'm glad Sony is being adventurous with their UHD selections but it's not a set high on my priority list.

I saw on Twitter today that there's reports StudioCanal UK is releasing a new and improved 4K UHD of Terminator 2 later this year.

Re: UHD release announcements
I really want Basic Instinct 4K. However, are there any signs it will be released in the States or is it just a UK exclusive release? Last I checked it was sold out on Amazon UK.

What a weird take. Did anyone ever think the Social Network was historically accurate? It was pretty well established from almost the moment it was made that it was not. It's a great movie and it totally holds up.

But Mark Zuckerberg was not the huge asshole the movie made him out to be so it is dated

Re: UHD release announcements
It doesn't look like Basic Instinct 4K is imminent in the States. The UK version is sold out and scalpers on Ebay are already charging double/triple it's price.
The new 4K remaster from StudioCanal is actually playing at a small theater about 15 miles from me in a few weeks. I'm thinking about checking it out even though I can just pull my BD off the shelf.

Re: UHD release announcements
Why even make a supposed "bio-pic" and use the real person's name if you're going to fabricate the story whole-cloth? Why not invent the character "Mike Zackerstein" who created the web site "Friendplace"? Then you wouldn't have to worry about licensing issues or lawsuits.

Oh, he definitely is an asshole. He's just a different asshole than the fictional one Aaron Sorkin created.

Going off on a tangent, I wonder what biopics out there ARE (mostly) accurate?

Re: UHD release announcements
Because it's not a documentary? Because otherwise no one would care? Because this is how historical movies have been made since the beginning of film history? The screenplay WAS adapted from a book that was based on Eduardo Saverin's own accounts. It was probably super biased and Sorkin no doubt took even further liberties, but a movie is a movie is a movie. It's either good or it's not and The Social Network is a good one.
That's pretty much how The Social Network works.
Some fictionalization will always be necessary for the sake of drama. I doubt there's a bio-pic in existence with greater than 50% accuracy to actual history. But Sorkin's trend more toward 5-10% truth, and he's just so completely shameless about not even disguising how BS they are. Characters in his bio-pics will go so far as to verbatim recycle dialogue Sorkin already used in some of his TV shows.
