Little annoyed this is getting released so shortly after the limited edition set last year. I wouldn've waited if I knew this was in the pipeline. I think the only thing missing from that set in this is the terrible sequel & its bonus features.

Ronin Flix getting into the 4K bandwagon! Here's hoping they release Hardware in 4K sometime soon.

The joke's on you 4K fans! The transfer for the new T2 release will be the one from the Predator Blu-ray.

Pretty cheeky of them to release an expensive anniversary edition with the same waxworks master. I suppose it’s possible this new edition could be the same master sans the DNR pass, but I wouldn’t count on it.

I didn't even click on the link because I knew it was going to be really expensive. I don't think I've seen their Blu-ray edition drop much in price either. I'm not sure I can talk myself into spending that much, but I have no doubt it will be a good package.

It's $45. You get a $15 discount but the discount is taken at check-out. FYI

Ronin Flix is a good company. I've purchased from them a few times. The movies they sell aren't really mainstream titles, so you really have to want them for the prices they charge. But, they do have sales occasionally.

Re: UHD release announcements

Pretty interesting that I Spit On Your Grave is getting the 4K treatment. The movie was nauseating enough on Blu-ray. The first time I watched it was on a blurry VHS rental from Movie Gallery in 1987 and then the cleaned up Blu-ray around 30 years later. I feel I am good for the next 30 years...or maybe forever. Tough movie to watch more than once. You feel like you need a shower after watching it.

That's a strange way to do business. It seems like it would keep some from getting it. Why not just price it at $45 and increase your sales? I've had the DVD since forever and I need more incentive to rebuy it. A doc and slip isn't enough, for me.

It’s pretty standard practice in some respects. A lot of the boutique labels price their UHD editions at $59.99 and wind up going anywhere from $37-$49 leading up to release.

In this case, maybe it’s to make it seem like more of a deal and maybe add a little urgency; so that people won’t think “oh, I’ll just wait for the sale”.

I agree. I'm not a big enough fan of the film anyway. Give me Hardware on 4K disc and you have my $50.

Re: UHD release announcements

So I took a chance and bought this 4K UHD of the new Basic Instinct from a 3rd party seller on Amazon UK. It cost about 28 pounds with shipping. So it's about 39 bucks. That's not horrible.

It says the item will arrive between Sept 22 and October 14th.

Since this is unavailable in the US and the prices are outrageous on ebay, this was my only option. Amazon UK is currently sold out. Hopefully it comes.

I posted about this edition a week or so ago in the Basic Instinct thread, I think, or some pages back in this one. I paid $29 shipped via Amazon's U.S. store, which also has 3rd market sellers such as Amazon's UK Global Store. You get free shipping. Mine says will arrive 9/17, but should be here sooner since I see the tracking says it has already cleared U.S. customs.

That Amazon link leads to the same UK 3rd party seller I bought mine from on Amazon UK. Looks like this is pretty much being sold by 3rd party sellers now. It's listed also as $30.36.

I'm in no rush. In fact, I already saw the 4K version in the theater about 2 months ago at an art house theater that was a 1 week only showing. It looked really good for a movie that's 29 years old..

The link takes you to RareWaveImports' listing, but if you click the "new from" price you can see it's $29 and some change and the pop up says it ships from the Amazon Global UK Store (basically Amazon UK). The rub being that you're doing all of this via Amazon's domestic USA site. It will still ship from the UK but you're dealing with Amazon USA.

Second Sight said on Twitter they had to price this higher to offset the cost of including the soundtrack CD. Apparently this soundtrack is very expensive to license for some reason.

I asked them on twitter if there will be a standard edition in the future with just the UHD & Blu-Ray discs, and they said there will be.

Re: UHD release announcements

Amazon UK just sent me an email that my copy of Basic Instinct 4K just shipped. Looks like the ETA is around 4 weeks. I was hoping the U.S. would get it via Lionsgate, but it looks like from what I read there are no plans for that.

I remember that it looked great on DVD. I'll probably wait on reviews of the 4K before biting.

At first I couldn't remember and then I just checked my DVDProfiler listing. It has extras, so it wasn't.

I assume they aren't rerendering Final Fantasy.

Very unlikely. I watched Final Fantasy on Blu-ray and most of the animation looked pretty bad even at 1080p.
