Yeah. Odd picture to have chosen. I know it isn’t final, but still. I wonder if it’s meant to be for the longer cut (longer than the Ultimate Edition that already exists) that’s coming to HBO Max soon. I think I read the new cut is going to add in like another half hour.

I've recently been circling my ages-old blu-ray with the notion of actually watching it. I guess I'll wait a little longer. I actually have the old laserdisc version.

Ha! Last Action Hero. I’m surprised Sony isn’t releasing Snatch. I’ll snatch it up in a heartbeat.

Dammit. I knew Snatch would make it before the superior Lock Stock came to UHD.

Re: UHD release announcements

Interesting choice in titles to release. I'm all for catalog releases, but these are a bit underwhelming to me. I'll definitely pick up Guns of the Navarone at some point, though. Maybe Looper if it gets cheap enough.

Re: UHD release announcements

It’s weird that I grew up rewatching the original IJ trilogy on my VHS set from McDonalds over and over but I probably didn’t get thru my DVD set but once and I haven’t watched my Blu set at all. Did these movies not have the impact on me that I thought they did?

I watched my DVD set, but while I own the Blu-ray set I haven’t watched it yet. Probably won’t upgrade to 4K until later.

Just in terms of technical qualities, Snatch has decidedly better photography and production values than Lock, Stock, which was shot on 16mm (and roughly at that). If I were going to pick one to upgrade to 4K, Snatch would be an easy decision.

Agreed. I just think Lock Stock get lost in the shuffle due to everybody and their Mom claiming Snatch is the better film. I just don't see it. But to each their own.

I watched my BD not long ago of Lock Stock and I know a 4K transfer would not cure its ills but it could maybe give it a nice uptick.

I'd lately seen MFL available in 4K on some of the streaming sites, so I was hoping there would be a disc released.

given that it's a Paramount release, I hope, like it's streaming VUDU version, it has Dolby Vision.

Re: UHD release announcements

Some updates regarding our upcoming 4KUHD release of THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY:

NEW color grading was applied to BOTH the Extended version (4KUHD) and Theatrical International version (Blu-ray). The color grading will now be consistent between both versions of the film.

We also restored the 2.0 Mono audio, going back to the 1993 MGM laserdisc PCM monaural track.

Disc 2 (Blu-ray) – Theatrical Cut
A 4K scan of a 1967 35mm IB tech print is the secondary source for approximately 10 seconds of content that is not present in the extended version of the film. This comprises of 5 shots total:

A) The optical flip ending in Tuco's neck back around the noose. (Timecode 01:24:13:03- 14 frames)

B) Tuco shoving the "Open/Closed" sign into the storekeeper's mouth. (Timecode 01:37:46:20- 5 seconds, 10 frames - this was cut short in the 2017 Kino theatrical version)

C) An extreme closeup on Blondie's eyes shortly before Tuco's gang comes barging through the door - features a hidden jump cut that is present on both the 35mm IB tech print and the Laserdisc release but not in the extended cut - (Timecode 01:41:54:15- 1 second, 14 frames- not present in the 2017 Kino theatrical version)

D) The fade up on Tuco and Blondie riding up to the mission after forcing him to walk through the desert (Timecode 02:02:45:19- 1 second, 3 frames- cut short in the 2017 Kino)

E) The tail of the shot of the train leaving the station. (Timecode 02:38:22:08- 2 seconds, 1 frame- cut short in the 2017 Kino)

Total Run Time: 02Hrs, 41Min, 57Sec

We also added the newly restored German Theatrical Trailer to our amazing list of extras - Courtesy of Jordan Krug and Benji Heran

Re: UHD release announcements

Wow, so Kino is actually putting some thought into this. Can we assume they're sourcing the fan restoration project that's out there for the tech print? And actually listening to some of the knowledgeable folks online with regards to the US cut instead of just berating them on public forums? If they actually put together a decent version of the that cut, 4k or not, this becomes a must buy.
