Of course, it's up to you whether you consider that worth upgrading if you don't care for the film that much.

Re: UHD release announcements
I participate in their forums, but let me say if you base your decisions on what is said there, you wouldn't buy anything. That being said,I have the UK Basic Instinct and, yeah, there's some teal, but I thought it looked fine. On the other hand, I also have the Total Recall 4K and I found the teal bothersome.
Overall, it looks fine. Not great, just fine. Its free of DNR problems, but there's nothing "HDR" about the image in the slightest. And yes, the colors are questionable. I found the teal annoying, but not as much of an eyesore as some other films I could cite.
I tried to do a comparison with the Blu-ray, but my disc apparently rotted and wouldn't play at all. I had to throw it away. However, I still have the even older DVD from 2001 (the one in the ice pick case). That disc really looks like garbage these days, but interestingly, almost all of the teal scenes on the new disc were also teal even that far back. It was perhaps not as noticeable due to the DVD format's limited color gamut, but it's there. If this is a problem, it's been a problem for a long time on all modern video formats.

Many, many of the original Basic Instinct pressings have rotted and won't play today. Any collector that purchased Lionsgate BDs from 2006-2008 should check their discs. AFAIK, Lionsgate won't replace them.

It’s an interesting film and one that’s worth watching once. I just don’t see it as something I want to watch over and over. That’s what I meant. I’ve seen it once years back and haven’t had the urge to revisit it.

What do they mean by "Original 4 movie collection"? I know 5 is terrible, but 6 was excellent and was the official send off for the TOS crew. So those don't get 4K treatment?

Star Trek knows how to squeeze money from the fans in weird ways without ever giving them fully what they want.

Re: UHD release announcements
Dumb. I would upgrade, but why would Paramount only be doing the first four? I get splitting between the TOS and TNG crews. Makes no sense to do four of the six TOS films. I’ll maybe upgrade if they’re available individually otherwise I’ll wait. Too bad because the artwork for the four disc set is nice.

So apparently The Digital Bits is reporting that the Star Trek 4K sets are being split into this first set with two more sets to follow.
The next will contain The Final Frontier, The Undiscovered Country, and Generations. The third set would have First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis.
Also good news in regards to Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
July 7, 2021 2:45 PM PDTParamount and Paramount+ are excited to announce that a full restoration of the Director’s Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture has been greenlit.
The restoration will be undertaken by producer David C. Fein, restoration supervisor Mike Matessino, and visual effects supervisor Daren R. Dochterman, all of whom worked previously with director Robert Wise.
The film will be prepared for presentation in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision™ high dynamic range (HDR) and a new Dolby Atmos® soundtrack. The restoration is expected to take 6-8 months and will launch with an exclusive window on Paramount+.

Re: UHD release announcements
Just to be clear, is The Director's Edition the version with the enhanced fx that has never been on blu-ray, or just the longer version?

Re: UHD release announcements
If you're thinking of the SLV (Special Longer Version) that was created for TV and is only in pan and scan. It was released on VHS and LaserDisc, 4x3 of course.
I would also love this version to be redone in widescreen, as there's some dialog I think makes the movie so much better.
