Re: UHD release announcements
Transformers is a first-day purchase for me. I've probably bought the movie six or seven times going back to VHS.

Re: UHD release announcements
No word on what the UHD release is, but we know Severin has an Argento title on the way, and there are four flies on the promo image, so…Four Flies on Grey Velvet?
Kino Lorber is announcing another UHD release on Sunday. All we know so far is that it’s a ‘90s title licensed from Universal, and that it’s “major” with newly-produced extras already lined up.

Out of Sight is a guess I’ve seen a lot of people make, and I could see that. Sneakers would be another strong contender if Kino Lorber hadn’t shot that one down already.

Whatever happened to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? IIRC, it was announced for early 2021 and we're rolling into Summer at this point.

Re: UHD release announcements
We added four 4KUHD titles to our current MGM deal. Two of which we plan to release in October.
Touch of Evil is confirmed for November, we also hope to release Eastern Promises by November or December and maybe Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
We're working on many other potential 4KUHD releases, so 2022 should be a big year for 4KUHD.

They said in December not to expect Eternal Sunshine any time soon - late summer at the earliest.

From a few days ago:
Eternal Sunshine is a complicated process since it was shot on film but doesn’t have a conformed negative (the whole digital intermediate thing), so they’re having to scan everything and completely reconstruct the movie.

On a side note, Kino seems really good at announcing things too early and then not releasing them for a long time, if at all. Why not just wait until a release is about finalized to announce it?

AFAIK, there never was one. It’s from the digital intermediate era.
Maybe I’m making some bad assumptions, though.

Well, I didn’t see that coming!
Hard Target is KL Studio Classics’ ‘90s title.

That is a Day 1 for me. Even if it costs $25-27 bucks, I'm getting it. The Unrated director's cut has never been released officially as far as I know in the U.S.

Re: UHD release announcements
Isn’t the current Blu-ray the unrated version, even though it says R on the artwork?

Re: UHD release announcements
Yeah Kino said the Unrated cut is 100 minutes and the regular theatrical cut is 97. The current BD that's out is 100 minutes.
So I guess they are remastering the Unrated cut for 4K and Woo is participating because that's his preferred version.

I've always liked Hard Target. Not my favorite Van Damme but Woo's trademark style adds a little something to the movie that makes it more memorable than many similar action thrillers from the era.

It's a weird footnote in film history that arguably the three biggest Hong Kong action directors of the 80's/early 90's (John Woo, Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark) all went to Hollywood to make Van Damme movies.
It's been many years since I've seen Hard Target, but it's probably the best of the three. Of course Woo is my favorite of those directors, so I'm probably biased.

I have the UK BD, which, as far I know is the UNRATED cut. Imported it a few years ago when it was cheap to do so.

I watched Hard Target a ton as a kid, but I doubt I have ever seen the unrated cut. I'll definitely check this out. I wonder if my memory of the film is good enough that I will be able to notice the differences.

Re: UHD release announcements
I recall going to a local convention in the late '90s and found a guy selling bootleg VHS rips of foreign laserdiscs. That was new to me, and I bought quite a few, -some John Woo, some Jackie Chans, Friedkin's "Rampage" with the alternate ending, and the long version of "Hard Target" (I believe it was about 2hrs 1min.). I never bought the standard blu-ray because it was barebones (but full-price). I ended up watching it on one of the pay cables about a year ago, and really enjoyed re-visiting it. I had hoped that "Target" and "Time Cop" would get licensed to Arrow, Kino, or Shout. I never expected a UHD, though.

I don't think it's a coincidence. Van Damme was actively trying to recruit Hong Kong directors and bring them to Hollywood.
