Re: UHD release announcements

Looks nice. Not really interested in a big set like that.

Re: UHD release announcements

I'm not that big of a Spielberg fan, but there's no denying his skill as a filmmaker. War of the Worlds seems like an outlier in that set though. It is at least a tier below the other movies IMO.

If it was me, I probably would have put Munich in there instead.

28 days later is coming to 4k on September 1st. Im not sure this movie will benefit all that much from a 4k as I thought it was shot with early HD cameras.

Even worse, it was shot with early SD digital cameras. I saw it re-released in the theaters last year and the image does not hold up at all at that size.

Re: UHD release announcements

Yeah I still have the Fox DVD and it feels like that's best the movie will ever look.

Re: UHD release announcements

The final scene was shot on 35mm. Totally justified!

The movie was never meant to look good. Danny Boyle shot it with "prosumer" standard-def cameras even though higher quality digital cameras were available. Attack of the Clones came out earlier the same year. Boyle wanted 28 Days Later to look as grungy as possible.

That's a choice for sure, but it was smeary and splotchy with digital artifacts and such in addition to being very low resolution. It certainly didn't make the film feel grittier to me or whatever the intention might have been.

Again, intentional. The movie looks like it was shot on the fly with low-quality home video cameras. It was also shot in PAL format, which had to be slowed down from the original 25 fps to 24 fps for theaters, which accounts for the smeariness. A 4k upscale isn't going to change any of that.

Re: UHD release announcements

28 Days Later will probably still look better than Aliens, True Lies, LOTR and Kill Bill(s) on disc.

I like Eraser. It’s a very underrated Arnold movie. I thought it was better than Collateral Damage. That’s one I will consider getting.

Re: UHD release announcements

I would also consider myself a fan of the film.
Spoilered for size
Spoiler:

The Patrick on the poster is my Brother In Law who was instrumental in cleaning up the Cyrex / Cyrez mess when real life company Cyrix complained about the similarity of the name in the movie to their company and how it did not make them look good. It was a high profile task that had to be done well and fairly fast (as the film was pretty much in the can when WB was forced to change the name), and his reward was to get a poster signed by Schwarzenegger, the films Director, and one other individual who was instrumental in the making of the film.

I probably have posted this pic before and told the same story, but it is worth dusting it off for this post since this fun film is getting some limited edition 4K love from the home video community.
