It'll be a different encode but the same master. Unfortunately, Discotek can only use what the Japanese licensors provide, and all they're offering are the DNR-ed masters.

That's too bad. I'll keep my Blu-ray for Castle then...

Re: UHD release announcements
It's been awfully quiet on the news front lately, but...! (To be fair, it's unclear how many of these "4K re-releases" will make it to Ultra HD Blu-ray.)
Studiocanal’s 4K re-releases in 2020 will include classics such as Breathless, The Elephant Man, Basic Instinct, Total Recall, Serpico and Flash Gordon.
Jean-Luc Godard’s New Wave classic Breathless will be 60 next year and Serpico will be re-issued in the same year that its star Al Pacino turns 80. Euro major Studiocanal will also be releasing restored versions of Gaspar Noé’s Irreversible (Irreversible: Straight Cut, which debuted at Venice) as well as movies such as The Red Circle, The Three Days Of The Condor, Fellini’s Lo Sceicco Blanco, The Ladykillers and horror film Dead Of Night, which Martin Scorsese recently listed as one of the scariest films of all time.
The library titles will get home entertainment releases in multiple Studiocanal territories and some will have theatrical play. David Lynch’s drama The Elephant Man received its premiere at the London Film Festival in October, and will have a home ent and theatrical release next year to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary.

Shutter Island, which was released in Europe a while back, is coming to the U.S. on February 11th.

Re: UHD release announcements
Just got in my order for Tammy and the T-Rex! Vinegar Syndrome gave some hints about their 2020 release slate, and:

So, Vinegar Syndrome has one 4K title in May, another in October, and 2 in November. Very nice to see that level of support.

Paramount confirmed Gemini Man for 1/14. It's the first HFR release in Dolby Vision -- 60fps!

We'll see how it goes. I reviewed Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk on 4K, which had the 60fps (but NOT Dolby Vision) and found it to be too video-like for my tastes. There were aliasing and shimmering issues with the image as well that were pretty noticeable with the high frame rate.

Re: UHD release announcements
...especially since at least one of them will apparently be a title they've already issued on Blu-ray. Liquid Sky screams to get the HDR treatment, but I'm not sure I have a second guess from their catalog so far.

I believe the remaining titles on the leaked Universal list are:
- Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life
- The Thing (1982)
- Miami Vice
- Wanted

Of course. And I just bought Shout Factory's The Thing release a couple of months ago. Dammit!

Re: UHD release announcements
Watched my copy of Tammy and the T-Rex last night. I'm not going to say it's reference material or anything, but I'm glad VS went through the trouble of releasing it on UHD.
The gore cut of this film is absolutely worth a watch; even more so if you happen to be familiar with the PG-13 cut, which is listed as a special feature on the Blu-ray. The UHD itself has no extras other than a commentary, but the BD included in the set has that PG-13 cut (very poor quality, but it's there.) and a bunch of newer interviews with the director and actors, including Denise Richards & Sean Whalen. It's really funny watching them all talk about how the project came together and just how limited their budget was. I especially like how the director explains why the film has two different titles.
This is easily one of my favourite UHD releases this year, and Tammy is a great film to watch with a group of people if you can. Partway through, my wife said, "It seems like they were making two different films; some scenes seem to be played straight as possible and others are hamming it up." and I think she's spot on.
I'm hoping for Runaway Nightmare only because the BD was extremely limited (and goes for over $100 on ebay). The DVD is still readily available... but I can't justify buying a DVD at this point.

Re: UHD release announcements
I cannot get over how ridiculously fun (and ridiculously ridiculous) Tammy and the T-Rex is. I think I might've laughed longer and harder at Tammy -- and at things they actually intended me to laugh at! -- than anything else I've watched this year. The audio is pretty rough-going, but the visual end is a knockout. Doesn't have that sort of smack-you-in-the-face HDR, but its presence is still felt, and its colors can be breathtaking. Extremely crisp, very fine grained, and some moments look as if they could've been filmed last week (such as that first shot of Tammy and Dino-Mike in the barn). It's very close to being a record high price that I've paid out of pocket for a single movie on Ultra HD Blu-ray, but it was worth every penny, and I plan on getting every single UHD release that Vinegar Syndrome puts out next year. Can't wait to start digging into the extras tomorrow.

Never heard Tammy. Amazon is showing a late Jan release for the 4k at $50.
That's a tad outside my "blind buy" price.

They’ll probably have more of a discount closer to release. I think it was $35 + shipping direct from VinSyn.

Those curious about Tammy and the T-Rex Gore Cut, it's going to be on Shudder Jan 13. Not in UHD, though, but should look good.

Re: UHD release announcements
Apparently you can add Facet Films to the list of independent labels supporting Ultra HD Blu-ray. blu-ray.com reports that they're bringing 1985's Manchurian Avenger to UHD BD next Spring. I haven't been able to quickly find independent confirmation of that; the official movie site calls it "a remastered, ultra-high definition, digital version", while Facet's site says that they've "re-mastered and digitized this popular picture for re-release in 4K UHD"; neither explicitly say anything about a 4K disc, although maybe they're being more direct when reaching out to outlets like blu-ray.com.
