That'd be nice.

Re: UHD release announcements

I'd much rather see Redford's The Last Castle get a fucking HD release.
It did- on D-VHS.

Re: UHD release announcements

All three Toy Story movies are apparently coming to UHD BD. Looks like individual releases rather than a box set. hdmoviesource.com lists ‘em with a June 4th release date.

I'm just holding onto my special edition blu's with the added 3D discs. I'm very weary of Disney and how they've been releasing 4K's in terms of quality.

^ Yeah... The Little Mermaid was kind of disappointing, considering how inconsistently they dealt with film grain... and not even from shot to shot, but between different elements in any given frame. It's... very strange... and not at all a top-tier effort for them. Of course, that doesn't affect Toy Story at all... but still.

Yay. Another movie nobody needed or asked for. Why the here isn't Wolf of Wall Street on UHD? I see a serious lack of tits and ash in 4K. I know I'm not the only one who would upgrade certain BDs for that reason alone.

It’s a tie-in to the sequel that comes out in May.

I've never seen The Natural but kudos on iTunes having the international cut of casino royale.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's just an upscale of the old Blu-ray master. Not the kind of catalog title you'd expect to have the sales needed to justify a proper job.

Re: UHD release announcements

Backdraft is not going to be an upscale. AFAIK, there’s only one upscale on the entire format of a movie that was finished on film (The Bourne Identity).

Re: UHD release announcements

Yes. Anything box set-adjacent seems to play to Universal’s worst habits, like the old, lousy 4K master used for Jurassic Park. I certainly understand skepticism about a Universal release, but I don’t see any reason to expect that Backdraft will be upscaled.

Re: UHD release announcements

Backdraft was released in 70mm at least- and it might be the first movie on the 4K format to show an 8-track tape!

Re: UHD release announcements

The Scorpion King is getting an international release on June 20th. It's yet another title from the Russian list that leaked a couple weeks back, so perhaps other movies listed there (such as The Thing, Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy, etc.) are indeed on the way as well.

I was annoyed when the 3rd Mummy movie went 4K but Scorpion King didn't. Much better movie. I'm still peeved we didn't get a proper sequel connecting it to the Mummy Returns story.

I still have 2 HD-DVDs waiting for replacement. Black Xmas (2006) and Getaway (1994).

..,and why the fork is the UK getting all these UHDs as individual releases while we only get sets with shirty packaging? I just ordered the first 2 Men in Black movies from Amazon UK since there's a deal running. I also have to get the original Bad Boys from the UK sometime, since I don't give a fork about the 2nd movie.

Re: UHD release announcements

It'll have been less than a year since the first release, so a new master would be surprising, but stranger things have happened!

What the hell is this? Amazon put up a Disney release before the release date? Did things get patched up with Amazon and Disney?
