The above are interesting choices for the 4K treatment.

Re: UHD release announcements

The makeup effects in Rawhead Rex didn't even hold up to scrutiny in DVD quality. The "better" the video clarity, the worse the movie looks. That was a movie ideally suited for VHS.

Re: UHD release announcements

That is a pretty crazy cool poster for the film Transmutations, precisely the type of cover art you would expect to see on certain genre films released in VHS cassette format back in the days when you would rent VHS tapes.

Re: UHD release announcements

I pre-ordered the standard 4K release of Drive. I was initially going to get the big box set but it's overpriced. I know Sony will probably release it this year, but the Second Sight one will have been encoded by Fidelity in Motion (FIM), so that's the true selling point for me.

pretty sure that was indeed the cover for the VHS of Transmutations, if my creaky old memory serves me correctly.

Re: UHD release announcements

Anyone follow Dawn of the Discs on Twitter?

They have been posting release dates for movies coming to 4K that haven't even come out yet in theaters. And their "retailer source" is HDMoviesource.com

https://twitter.com/dawnofthediscs

They posted release dates for The Northman, Ambulance and Fantastic Beasts 3. I've never heard of that retailer and wouldn't trust buying from them.

Maybe these will be direct-to-video releases?

I mean, it seems like they're probably just guessing? They take the theatrical poster, crop the credits and/or "coming soon" and make it more UHD case shaped, then slap the "UHD + Blu-ray + Digital" banner on top. Note how the release date is just "June," not a specific day.

Also, on the more general pre-order page, the release dates for those titles is just "TBA".

Not a shock or news and that would be like saying the Batman will get a 4K release

They actually have a pre-order up for The Batman UHD.

The pricing seems insane. Maybe the "free worldwide shipping" makes it more economical for people in other countries wanting to import.

Re: UHD release announcements

Just more examples of accounts/sites with zero credibility, posting clickbait 'exclusive' news so they can be 'first' and gain clout. It's pathetic. Just like that other account that posts mock-ups all the time after data mining retailer databases or straight up guessing at titles and dates.

Also disappointing that it gets retweeted and spread without better verification I see it from people who really should know better on Twitter all the time.

Re: UHD release announcements

Severin will soon announce they will be doing a UHD option for the Out of the Blue restoration. This was told to Kickstarter backers by the restoration producers.

In an email to the Kickstarter backers, they were discussing the company that is working on the master and also mentioned they just finished working on Raging Bull.

Re: UHD release announcements

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, it appears that Warner Bros is releasing Malignant on May 24.

I'm not sure what the reasoning was for waiting an extra 6 months to release this instead of doing it day-and-date with the Blu-Ray, unless they really wanted to get a few possible double dips out of it.

Ignite Films announced on their website that they're putting out the original Invaders from Mars on Blu-ray and UHD BD.

After the new Miller’s Crossing bullshit, I’ll hold off of this one until it’s actually out for a bit.

Re: UHD release announcements

I have Cat People on HD-DVD and blu ray and the audio is absolutely horrible .

I don't know if I would take another chance with 4k version.

But does the HD-DVD still play?

Just wait for reviews on the audio before you buy.

It was mostly the DVD/HD "Combo" discs that had issues.
