Safe Lists
The following lists are Automatic Safe lists. They are not definitive and there might be exceptions therein, especially concerning Distributors. Generally, the presence of those on the lists in an actual creative capacity (that is, more than just a cameo or bit part. For instance, Bruce Campbell appearing in Spider-Man does not make Spider-Man safe) is enough to make a film safe. Got more? Post them and I'll update the list. Obviously, films not including these participants are safe, too. Update: I added several new names to the actors list. Some of these actors appeared in actual big budget Hollywood fare, but most of their career was in B-Movies, then obviously discard the Big Hollywood movies and just watch the B's (For example, William Shatner. Ignore Star Trek movies but anything else is fair game. Or Patrick Swazye. Ghost is probably not right, but most of his other films were B-Movies).

Total =101 FTV =91 (90.1%)
Media VHS =3 DVD =34 BluRay =49 Streaming =15

DVD unless otherwise noted
First Half List:
Spoiler:
April 16
54. Santos vs Infernal Men (1961)* (Enter Santo) BluRay
An undercover police detective infiltrates a band of smugglers in Cuba. Santo lurks in the background and drops in a few time for a fight. Slow moving with very little action and what is there is just average. We don't even find out what is being smuggled. No wrestling but a few musical numbers. OK but far from the best Santo movie. 4/10
55. My Name Called Bruce (1978)* B-Movie TV
Bruce Le plays an agent trying to break up an antique smuggling ring and get revenge for the death of his brother. Made in South Korea. The story is kind of confusing and the fights are just OK. Bruce Le doesn't really have a big role here, most of the heavy lifting is done by a female detective sergeant play by Eun-joo Im, a Korean actress who is pretty good in the role. 4.5/10
56. Savage Sisters (1974)* BluRay
In a banana republic three women, two revolutionaries and a prison guard, go after a million US dollars which is also pursued by mercenaries, a corrupt general, and a corrupt rich American. Lighthearted action story more amusing than outright funny but I did get a few chuckles out of it. Directed by Eddie Romero with John Ashley, Sid Haig, Vic Diaz and Gloria Hendry. 6/10
57. Hard Hunted (1992)* (Bullets, Bombs and Babes: The Films of Andy Sidaris)
The evil Mr. Kane is after a device that can trigger a nuclear bomb and the usual Andy Sidaris gang of boobs and hunks are out to stop him. Chases, explosions, and odd vehicles are all there but it feels like the formula is starting to wear a little thin. 4.5/10
April 17
58. The Executioner II: Karate Inferno (1974)* (The Executioner Collection) BluRay
The gang from the first film is back, this time taking on the Chicago Mafia and trying to recover a stolen neckless and lots of cash. There was just about the perfect mix of humor and action in the original. This one has more humor, including more than one fart joke, and a less action but it's still enjoyable. The story is a little crazier and the action is wilder. 6.5/10
59. Enter the Game of Death (1978)* B-Movie TV
Shortly before WW2 several factions search for an important document vital to China's survival. Bruce Le is in full Brucesploitation mode in this one. There is minimal plot and one fight after another. Some are just OK but some are fun with the ones in the inevitable tower being the best. Bolo Yueng has a large part. 5/10
60. The Heroin Busters (1977)* (Arrow Rogue Cops and Racketeers) BluRay
Fabio Testi plays an undercover cop trying to work his way into a worldwide heroin racket. David Hemmings plays his boss. Grim and gritty, the real action takes a while to kick in but the final long chase is very exciting. All of the cast is good and Goblin provides a nifty soundtrack. Directed by Enzo G. Casetellari. 7/10
April 18
61. Red Midnight (1966)* (Vinegar Syndrome Lost Picture Show) BluRay
A doctor and his vacation companions are captured by foreign agents after doing a good deed. The doctor convinces the agents not to use atom bombs to destroy America but rather to burn major cities and industrial centers to the ground. Not really a nuclear scare movie but rather a condemnation of current urban planning policies. Huh?Technically an awful movie this was a blast to watch. Almost every scene brings a new level of craziness and the final outcome is outrageous. 3/10 as a movie, 8/10 as must see trash.
62. The Strange World of Coffin Joe (1968)* (Inside the Mind of Coffin Joe) BluRay
Coffin Joe hosts a three story anthology film. The first story is about an elderly doll maker, the second concerns a hunchbacked ballon vendor and his obsession with an attractive young woman, and the third is about a very Joe-like professor who conducts brutal experiments to prove torture brings out the worst in people. The stories get sleazier as they go along. Sometimes Joe's rants just go one too long. 6.5/10
April 19
63. Fighting with Kit Carson (1933) Chapters 5-8 around 66 minutes
5)Murder Will Out 6)The Secret of Iron Mountain 7)The Law of the Lawless 8)Red Phantoms
The bad guys find the gold! Hard riding, shooting, and roping ensues. Noah Berry Sr. is just great as the ruthless, snarling, cigar smoking main villain,
64. Kickboxer Robocop aka Rings Untouchable (1992)* B-Movie TV
Godfrey Ho strikes again. Jack. a boxer, is dropped by his manager and gets busted during a drug deal gone bad. Wilfredo gets life for killing the guy who raped his sister and goes to the same prison. The two never meet but at least some effort is made to make you think they are in the same movie. There's precious little kickboxing and no robocop at all, just a guy in a silver spacesuit who is a drug induced hallucination. Not bad for a Ho epic. 5/10
65. Cheerleaders Beach Party (1978)* Prime
The four cheerleaders of Rambling U. head to State U. territory to stop the three best football players from Rambling defecting to State. There are boobs, hash filled brownies and a wild party but all in all this feels bland and unenthusiastic. 4/10
66. Gas Pump Girls (1979)* Prime
Several young women just out of high school use T and A tactic to save Uncle Joe's failing gas station. They recruit their boyfriends and even some local bikers to help out. Never really funny but the performers are likable and the pace is lively. There are a few song and dance numbers and the soundtrack is generally decent.
There are even some older actors involved: Huntz Hall (Bowery Boys), Joe E. Ross (Car 54, Where Are You), and Mike Mazurki (numerous roles as a heavy in the 40's and 50's). An amusing and pleasant film. 5/10
April 20
67. The Cowboy Millionaire (1935)* (Mill Creek Western Collection 250 Movie Pack Disk: 3)
George O'Brien plays a cowboy working on a dude ranch who falls for an aristocratic British woman and has to deal with a swindler out to get his gold mine. OK, without a whole lot of action but the cast is good and the story interesting. 5/10
68. Prairie Moon (1938)* (Gene Autry Collection 7)
Gene and his school teacher girlfriend have to take care of three tough kids from the big city who inherited a ranch from their gangster father who was killed by the police. Part of the ranch is being used to hide stolen cattle by a gang of rustlers. Good stuff. The kids are very entertaining and the songs are fine. There's not a whole lot of action until the exciting climax but that's well done. 6.5/10
69. Iron Angel (1964)* (Mill Creek Explosive Cinema 12 Movie Collection)
During the Korean War six soldiers are sent to destroy a mortar that is preventing needed supplies getting to other troops. Along the way they meet a nurse with no sense of direction. Low budget war movie with limited action and lots of walking and driving. A few times the scene suddenly shifts to illustrate the erotic fantasies one of the men is having. All of these are pretty tame. A little weird but watchable. 4.5/10
70. Samson and the 7 Miracles of the World aka Maciste alla corte del Gran Khan(1961)* BluRay
Original cut. In 13th Century China Maciste helps to free the country from Mongol tyrants. OK with several feats of strength (uprooting a tree, fighting a tiger, stopping a chariot, moving some boulders, and more). The setting is different but overall the movie seems less spectacular than it could have been. Part of it could be the standard plot. 5/10
April 21
71. The Throne of Fire (1983)* B-Movie TV
Stud muffin Siegfried tries to stop the son of Satan from becoming king by marrying hottie Princess Valkari. Low rent Italian Conan ripoff has a nice castle for outdoor shots but that's about it. It's hard to tell which side is more incompetent in this story full of stupidity with one of the lamer sons of Satan I've seen. The Well of Madness was pretty cool for a Disney ride but the action scenes prove that slow motion does not make poorly staged fight scenes look better. 4/10
72. Just Before Dawn (1946)* YouTube
The Crime Doctor becomes an instrument of murder when an inulin injection he gives a man causes his death. Above average entry has neat tricks by the doctor and some atmospheric murders. The solution is logical and well done. Directed by William Castle. 6/10
73. Tiger At the Top aka Tigers At Top (1975)* (Mill Creek Iron Fist Frenzy 50 Movies)
A fighter is charged with transporting some gold for his community, along the way he encounters many enemies and a few friends. The head bad guy can use the not so amazing hypnotic fist technique. One of the friends just fades away before the movie ends, so the plot is a little loose. The fights are average but reasonably well done. 5/10
April 22
74. The Awakening of the Beast (1970)* (Inside the Mind of Coffin Joe) BluRay
A psychiatrist presents several cased of drug use related to various sexual practices, many not mainstream. He then gives four volunteer addicts LSD and has them stare at at Coffin Joe poster after they have seen one of the movies. Psychosexual mayhem ensues. Interesting but gets pretty strange in the second half. José Mojica Marins plays himself at the beginning and Coffin Joe during the LSD trips. Thirty minutes into the film the English subs just stopped and never came back so I had to switch to a DVD copy I have. 6/10
75. Violated! (1975)* (Vinegar Syndrome Lost Picture Show) BluRay
A serial rapist is terrorizing Southern California and the police can't seem to get any leads so one of the victims, Terry, decides to take matters into her own hands, investigating some of the more likely suspects. The first part of the film is just assault, little bit of plot, assault over and over although different locations and methods provide some variety. Once the focus moves to Terry and the small team she assembles things get more crazy and much more entertaining with a really wild finish. 6.5/10
76. Ski Troop Attack (1960)* (Bonus feature in Beast From Haunted Cave Special Edition) BluRay
In WW2 an American reconnaissance patrol is caught behind enemy lines when the Battle of the Bulge begins. They continue their mission and come up a railroad bridge that needs to be destroyed. Directed by Roger Corman who moves things along at a brisk pace and provides plenty of action and some suspense as the patrol is pursued by German ski troops. 6/10
April 23
77. Tai Chi Shadow Boxing (1979)* (Mill Creek Iron Fist Frenzy 50 Movies)
A ragged old man takes two lazy buffoons as students so they can help him get revenge for the death of his brother. OK action comedy with lots of buildup and a whole bunch of training. The training is entertaining and the comedy isn't awful. The fights are well done but the plot is basic and villains are just there with little backstory. The final fight is good but not great. 5.5/10
78. Tiger Claws III (1999)* (Tiger Claws 1-3) BluRay
A martial arts student gives three powerful fighting spirits physical form with no particular plan at all. Weakest of this series. Cynthia Rothrock is out of action for most of the film and the main villain is just lame. At Least Carter Wong has a good sized role as the master who trains our hero in the means to defeat the spirits. That means there are Jalal Merhi training scene which aren't that interesting. Most of the fights are good and the supernatural aspect is OK but the effects are cheesy at best. 5/10
79. Beast From Haunted Cave (1959) (Beast From Haunted Cave Special Edition) BluRay
A gang of crooks pulls off a gold robbery and plan to escape by cross country skiing but the weather and a monster screw up their plans. Very low budget creature but I think it looks pretty good. Some thought was put into how to disguise the cheesiness and there are scenes that are pretty effective. The interactions among the gang can be a little tedious but the film is short enough that it doesn't matter. 5/10
April 24
80. Teenage Doll (1957) (Image Teen Terror Collection)
The members of a female gang, The Black Widows, hunt for a "good" girl who killed one of their members in a fight over the leader of a male gang. Not an elaborate plot but the movie is full of psychotic characters. The looks at the home lives of some of the girls are priceless as is the final rumble in an auto junkyard. Lead June Kenney (the good girl) is a real doll. Directed by Roger Corman who keeps things moving at a snappy pace and maintains suspense throughout. 7/10
81. Teenagers From Outer Space (1959) (Image Teen Terror Collection)
Aliens come to Earth searching for a breeding ground for their giant sea food buffet. This is not a very good movie - obviously low budget, poor acting, cheesy effects (although I do like the skeleton thing), and sort of a silly plot. Still, in this case, all this adds to the charm of the movie which I like. I wouldn't want to watch it too often but every once in a while is fine. 4.5/10
82. Teenage Monster (1959) (Image Teen Terror Collection)
In the 1880's in a remote mine a meteorite kills the miner and scars his son, eventually turning him into a slow witted hairy beast of a man. He is manipulated first by his mother who is trying to protect him then by a sly, conniving waitress who is blackmailing Mom. This film has a bit of quality to it due to some OK actors but it is another low budget monster fest which just plods along until the end. 4/10
83. Teenage Caveman (1958) VHS
Robert Vaughn plays a young cave person who is constantly questioning his elders and the sacred laws of his tribe. These are the cleanest looking and most well groomed cave folk I've ever seen. Most of the shots of beasts are from other films but the God Who Kills With a Touch is pretty well done. The story loses a lot of the impact once you know how it ends but it's still worth seeing once in a while. Directed by Roger Corman who does a decent job even if I don't think it's as successful as some of his stuff I've seen lately. 4.5/10
April 25
84. The End of Man (1971)* (Inside the Mind of Coffin Joe) BluRay
A naked man walks out of the ocean and wanders around town for a while before getting some clothes then he wanders around some more. Satirizes many elements of the time from hippies to marital infidelities. Some are a bit heavy handed but not as bad as some films I've seen. Switches between B&W and color, perhaps there is a pattern but maybe not. Strange but interesting. 5.5/10
85. Beware The Black Widow (1968)* (Vinegar Syndrome Lost Picture Show) BluRay
A reporter and his editor investigate the murders of several mob gangsters seemingly done by a woman draped all in black as if in mourning. A good story but somewhat poorly made. There is plenty of sleazy goodness and some weird songs to make up for that. There is actually some good chemistry between the two newspapermen. 6/10
April 26
86. Fighting with Kit Carson (1933)* Chapters 9-12 around 68 minutes
9)The Invisible Enemy 10)Midnight Magic 11)Unmasked! 12)The Trail to Glory
Overall an enjoyable serial. The cliffhangers weren't clever (mostly getting shot or knifed) and the escapes could be lame. Also at least four, possibly five chapters used scenes from earlier chapters as people recalled what happened. The action and actors were good and the finale was satisfying.
87. Deep Inside (1968)* (Vinegar Syndrome Lost Picture Show) BluRay
During their annual summer reunion at a beachside resort, the hostess enjoys manipulating her friends and their husbands into erotic, uncomfortable, or even harmful relationships. There's an interesting story under all that sexploitation! Reasonably well made and acted this keep my interest up to the very satisfying end. Directed by Joe Sarno. 7/10
88. The Rare Blue Apes of Cannibal Isle (1974)* (Vinegar Syndrome Lost Picture Show) BluRay
An Indonesian boy and his pet duck run away from home and end up helping the Rare Blue Apes against the evil crocodile pirates. OK. It IS just a kid's movie. The costumes are fine for what it is and some of the songs are catchy. There are a few oddities in the plot but it plays out like you thought it would except for a slightly surprising end. 4.5/10
89. Special Silencers (1982)* BluRay
A bad guy wants to take over a village so he starts by killing the mayor using a pill which causes roots to rip the body apart from the inside. More deaths follow. Barry Prima plays the martial arts expert hero who tries to stop this. Basically a kung fu movie with a few supernatural elements and lots of snakes. Pretty good fights including those with the mayor's high kicking daughter and some truly strange scenes make this a fun watch. 6/10
April 27
90. Cannibal Attack (1954)* YouTube
Johnny Weissmuller plays Johnny Weissmuller in this "Jungle Jim" movie. This is the first of three JJ movies that did not officially have Jungle Jim in them. Perhaps a rights issue? This is a good one with Johnny helping the government locate missing cobalt shipments which seem to have been destroyed by crocodiles! Or was it the mythical tribe that was able to control the beasts? Lots of action without too much stock footage and a story with some twists and just a little craziness. For instance in one scene, Johnny is running toward a river to save a character from a croc attack and he trips! The guy is able to save himself but really, would this have happened to Jungle Jim! Produced by Sam Katzman. 5.5/10
91. Carolina Moon (1940)* (Gene Autry Collection 7)
Gene and Frog head to the deep south to get a race horse Gene bought and run into a scheme to buy up all the plantation land for timber rights. There are lots of songs and very little action in this one. The more Gene Autry films I see the more I can understand why he was so popular since this was entertaining without many fisticuffs but still. Being the south there are some happy black workers singing and being silly and Frog even does a blackface drag scene to get some info. Probably could not be shown on TV today. 5.5/10
April 28
92. Murder in Times Square (1943)* YouTube
A stage actor falls under suspicion when several of his associates are murdered using snake venom so he tries to solve the case himself. In a twist, the police detective is an intellectual, psychologist type and not the usual buffoon but he still gets it all wrong. Decent mystery with an solution that doesn't quite answer all the questions. 5.5/10
93. Rip Roaring Riley (1935) VHS
Federal agent Riley is sent to Diamond Island to investigate a disgraced US Army officer who may be testing a new poison gas. Impressive for a poverty row production. Some of the outdoor action was either filmed or this movie or was VERY well integrated stock footage. Also has a cool lab set and the fast moving pace of a serial. 6/10
94. The Wild Ride (1960)* Prime
A JD hot rodder (Jack Nicholson) leads a gang of similar punks but runs into trouble with his best bud over a more conservative girl and with the police after running a motorcycle cop off the road. Nice jazzy score and an OK story with an end that was a little surprising to me. 6/10
95. Sabata (1969) BluRay
Lee Van Cleef is Sabata, a wanderer who recovers money from a huge bank robbery and then, with a few friends, works to expose the upstanding citizens behind the theft. Lots of action and unsavory, often quirky characters. Heroes and villains have unique weapons that spice things up. 7/10
April 29
96. The Last of the American Hoboes (1971)* (Vinegar Syndrome Lost Picture Show) BluRay
Titus Moede directed and narrates a docudrama about the hobo life in America in a historical and modern context. Most of the stuff is staged although there is footage of skid row in LA and the Hobo Convention in Britt, Iowa. Also some of the staged scenes are shot in real locations such as missions and railroad yards. This was really interesting but I wondered how much of the material was based on actual interviews vs made up. 6/10
97. The Last of the American Hoboes commentary with film historian Shawn D. Langrick (2022)* (Vinegar Syndrome Lost Picture Show) BluRay
This was a frustrating commentary for me. We get an extensive overview of Titus Moede's career which was great and also some solid info about some of the other participants. But I was also interested in some scene specific info like the source of some of the scenes and just who we are seeing or the location. Some of this is covered but often in advance of the scenes or long after they have passed. I realize now that someone really skilled at this can relate a long career arc while occasionally focussing on what's on the screen to provide further information and then get back to the other topic. Still there was a lot of good info here.
98. The Dirtiest Game in the World (1970)* (Code Red James Bryan Film Festival)
Titus Moede (as Titus Moody) plays a state politician with an alcoholic wife, trying to get the hippie vote by supporting the legalization of marijuana. One puff and he's sucked into a whirlpool of depravity! Lots of nakedness and fornication including a couple of orgies. There is some story but not much. A particularly sleazy political advisor (maybe played by Coleman Francis) and a very gross end are the highlights. 3.5/10
April 30
99. Red Sun Rising (1994)* BluRay
Don "The Dragon" Wilson plays a Japanese cop who goes to Los Angeles to avenge the death of his partner who was killed by an assassin who can use ninja magic. Lots of action, a good cast, fast pacing and one of my favorite low budget martial artists. There's even some training when Don learns some of his own ninja tricks. 6.5/10
100. When the Gods Fall Asleep (1972)* (Inside the Mind of Coffin Joe) BluRay
Sequel to The End of Man picks up right after and has Finis Homminis once again wandering into situations and defusing tensions or solving problems. I liked this better than the original since the situations, including a gang war in a slum, adultery, and and overcrowded brothel, seem more well developed and interesting. There is also less heavy handed satire and a fairly strange end. 6/10
101. Half a Loaf of Kung Fu (1978)* (Jackie Chan Emergence of a Superstar) BluRay
A nobody does silly things and then learns some kung fu. Early Jackie Chan king fu comedy has a fun credit sequence but then is a little hard to get through for a while. The story is weak to non-existent and most of the comedy wasn't that funny to me. Things get better as the movie goes along. Although the comedy doesn't improve the action does and a story almost appears. Watching Jackie Chan's physical abilities is always a pleasure though. 4.5/10

Re: 15th ANNUAL DRIVE-IN/EXPLOITATION/B-MOVIE CHALLENGE LIST THREAD
My list goes here:
April 2
1. Howard the Duck (1986) Yes, this was the very first theatrically released Marvel movie. That doesn't mean it's any good.
April 3
2. Deathstalker (1983) Grade-Z Conan rip-off. Enough boobs to keep one watching, amongst them Barbie Benton's.
April 4
3. Deathstalker II (1987) It's surprising how many years passed before they made a sequel. Much more lighthearted than the original, with a different Deathstalker but again, enough boobs to keep one's interest.
April 5
4. Hollywood Boulevard (1976) A B-movie about B-movies. Co-directed by Joe Dante and starring Dick Miller alongside Mary Woronov (who looks amazing!) and a bevy of beautiful buxom gals who show some boobs at least once.
April 6
5. Rarotonga (1978) Based on the Mexican female comic book character. The beautiful Rarotonga is an Island Queen who seduces a doctor who comes to cure the natives.
6. La Isla de Rarotonga (1982) Though starring the same male lead as in the above mentioned Rarotonga, this one inexplicably does NOT star Rarotonga herself. Only the island that the white doctor goes to is called as such. Anyway there is a native queen (again, inexplicably a blonde white woman) who looks fantastic naked, so I'm not complaining.
April 7
7. Ms. 45 (1981) Rape-revenge cult classic. A mute woman goes on a killing spree after being raped twice in one day.
April 8
8. Las Momias de Guanajuato (1972) People often misremember this as being called Santo vs Las Momias de Guanajuato, but the famous masked Mexican wrestler has a secondary role here as the stars are Blue Demon and Mil Mascaras who must face the dreaded mummies.
April 9
9. El Vampiro y el Sexo (1969) Infamous movie whose existence was thought to be an urban legend that said that Santo, the famed Mexican wrestler, had made a porno movie - this was completely false. This is just an alternate version of Santo en El Tesoro de Drácula (Santo in Dracula's Treasure). El Vampiro y el Sexo simply adds some nudity curtesy of Dracula's vampire women, however Santo himself is in none of these scenes.
April 10
10. Blue Tiger (1994) Above average female revenge film. The beautiful Virginia Madsen stars as a mother seeking revenge (justice?) for her murdered son who was killed in a gangland crossfire. I hasten to put this as a B-movie because it really is quite good, with skillful direction, solid pace with an outstanding performance by Virginia Madsen.
April 11
11. Backstreet Justice (1996) Linda Koslowski of Crocodile Dundee fame stars as a cop uncovering a killer posing as a cop. She appears nude here in one steamy scene.
April 12
12. 4D Man (1959) A scientist discovers how to pass through solid objects, however every time he uses his power he ages, forcing him to suck the life out of others in order to sustain his own. Lee Meriwether stars looking gorgeous, justifying price of admission on her own.
April 13
13. Pray for the Wildcats (1974) Andy Griffith, William Shatner and Robert Reed (the dad in the Brady Bunch) all play against type as middle aged business men who go on a motorcycle trip to Baja California, Mexico. All have ulterior motives and the drama between the characters makes for some interesting viewing. Cheesy as all hell but entertaining.
April 14
14. Pacific Rim (2013) Try as it might, this never rises above a B-movie, and that's just fine because it's entertaining and with pretty decent effects.
April 15
15. Las Bestias Jóvenes (The Young Beasts) (1970) Melodrama of young people gone wild. That means drinking and sex.
April 16
16. The Return of Swamp Thing (1989) Time has mellowed my opinion of this sequel, not that the original was any masterpiece, but now I can enjoy it for the dumb fun that it is.
