Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
All theme/subset dates have been finalized!
On both post #7 (w/ events) and post #73 in the discussion thread. I was going to ask for some assistance like last year, that is, until getting completely addicted while going down this rabbit hole of links. Everything from zombie burlesque to an actual ball at the Stanley hotel. This now makes the third consecutive year where everything syncs up with some sort of event. All the links will be included once I get the table up. https://www.stanleyhotel.com/uploads...-16x9_orig.jpg |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Keep those actor, director, writer and producer suggestions coming.

Would it possible to get all of the people on the RIP list added under their proper designations on the checklist? For instance, make sure that all of the directors on the RIP list fall under the "Directors" part of the checklist, actors for the "Actor" part, etc. All of the ones that don't neatly fit into a category that we already have (or have shown up on the checklist too recently for regular inclusion) could go into the "Recently deceased" checklist item.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Chad, you certainly keep things fresh. You have a knack for adding the right stuff (like breaking out the RIP categories) while keeping the complete list or removing the watch 2 films with the same title for watch 2 films with similar plots. If that runon sentence (and word) was too confusing I agree with what you have done here. I really appreciate the work you are putting into this checklist (not to mention the poster at the beginning). We are very fortunate to have you running this thread!

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I agree with Orlmac. Chad does a fantastic job keeping this challenge alive year after year

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I am not very good at suggesting producers or writers, I'm just starting to look at these credits but if they haven't been used before Jason Blum would be a producer and Kiyosha Kurosawa would be a writer to consider.
|
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
^Appreciate that.
Just a reminder to please get your checklist suggestions in soon if you have them. I'm shooting for a Wednesday night deadline to complete it. :fc: |

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Maybe for the sub-genre / types section "takes place in a high school". There are a ton of choices for that.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I called myself checking, and I might have missed his name, but I didn't see that we'd ever used
Curt Siodmakin the writer category. |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I was just rewatching the promo for the new Elvira special and it suddenly occurred to me our theme night and checklist item for Movie Macabre says 30th anniversary. It’s actually 40th, though! 1981 only seems like it was 30 years ago…

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I think the tropes and everything south of the writers section are done, that is, unless there's any more suggestions. Did I get all the Julie's? I'm slowly, but surely getting the rest in as I multi-task, and still plan to have it finished by tomorrow night.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Could we put
Amando de Ossorioon the "Director" list again? It's been at least eight years since we've used him. |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Alright, as far as I can tell everything is filled in and the checklist is complete.
I just finished(?) it off by removing some dead Letterboxd links and replacing them with fresh ones. Let me know if I missed any links (alive or dead), categories, etc. so I can plug everything into a table. |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
It looks like the link for “Features a character waking up from a nightmare” is currently going to “killer child.”
Looks great! Deep in planning mode now… |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
^Fixed. Some leftovers from last year.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
What's the difference between "Film title drop" and "Title spoken by character"? That seems like the exact same thing to me.

Oh, just noticed: “Taylor Scout-Compton” should be “Scout Taylor-Compton”. :)

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
^Fixed, thanks.
Here's the checklist plugged into the table. You can find it in all the usual spots - the wiki link in the discussion and list threads, the link in post #1 of the discussion thread under 'optional stuff', and the actual table in post #2 of both threads. Spoiler:

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Have never completed the checklist before. Going to make that my one and only challenge goal. It's a lofty one.

It is a lofty goal but a worthwhile one. It always forces me to watch new movies that I probably wouldn't have watched otherwise. It, and the subset films, is my favorite part of the challenge. I hope you get as much out of it as I do.

https://www.paramountplus.com/ EDITED TO ADD: If you got your information out of Chad's awesome list a few posts back, you might have misread it, as the ways that you can view a film show up AFTER the title, even though those ways sometimes start a line and show up in front of the NEXT film. |
