Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am really excited about seeing the subset films and starting to track them down. The subset films are exciting enough (and there is only one person left to pick their films, woohoo) but once that is done we can start on the Checklist, which means I can start choosing my movies to watch and tracking them down. It is finally starting to get real that the challenge starts three weeks from today (at dusk)!

In the last few years I've tried to do something different each time when it comes to my viewing. I've done a chronology of horror, watched only franchises, there was that year it was only 80s movies... This time, I am thinking of going this route, a movie each year from 1920-2020, Ten films a decade and, for the most part if not all of them, films I've never seen before. |

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I'm going to post the subset list either tomorrow or Friday at the latest, and that's despite whether or not we've heard from everyone by then. That way we'll keep on schedule and give you adequate time to make preparations. A physical media/streaming guide coming soon as well. |

Feel free to start giving those actor, director, producer, composer, etc. suggestions if you want. I'm currently working on getting the checklist 2021 ready and should have that up before the weekend's over.
As always, the former checklists with what's been previously used are on post #5. |

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Potential actresses are Tiffany Shepis, Elissa Dowling and Arielle Brachfield. They all have 10+ movies I think, some more around 20.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
CHECKLIST CONSTRUCTION
Let's build this. I haven't gotten to everyone's suggestions (previous and current) just yet. The usual - Every entry from actors to writers is new with the exception of the permanent rotating actors (Karloff, Lee, Legosi, & Cushing). Anything beyond that point that's in red is a new entry or just updated. I included entries for Name In Title, Trailer Compilations, and Enzo Sciotti Art, which were all theme suggestions I couldn't find links for originally. Current progress can be found in the wiki link, which directs to this post. Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I would dump the Carradine check because only John has significant horror credits, and most of them suck, and the Clive Barker check because he has only directed/ written a handful of films and we've all seen them.
Some suggestions: 1. Killed by a child 2. Features a nightmare scene 3. Features an LGBT character 4. Features a mask reveal (e.g. Dr Phibes) 5. Features a funeral scene 6. Title includes Bride of / Son of/ Curse of/ Return of 7. A character explodes or is disemboweled. 8. Features a severed head I don't understand this check --- Video ,2 - --- 8mm (Super 8) - --- 16mm - All I have is DVD/ Blu-Ray/ and 4K. No 16MM or 8mm. |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Checklist suggestion stuff:
horror film tropes: "I'll be right back" (unless that's covered by dumb decisions) road trip stop at gas station/convenience store "warning" shocking twist actors: Bill Moseley Brad Dourif Tony Todd directors: Pete Walker James Wan Takashi Miike Umberto Lenzi film composers: Pino Donaggio Tyler Bates John Carpenter |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Peter Jackson has 14 horror movies as a director.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Would it possible to get all of the people on the RIP list added under their proper designations on the checklist? For instance, make sure that all of the directors on the RIP list fall under the "Directors" part of the checklist, actors for the "Actor" part, etc. All of the ones that don't neatly fit into a category that we already have (or have shown up on the checklist too recently for regular inclusion) could go into the "Recently deceased" checklist item.
Or maybe we've already been doing this and I haven't noticed. |

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
How about a “haven’t I seen this somewhere before?” For the checklist?
Movies with similar plots or have “borrowed” heavily from other movies. examples: Night Of The Creeps & Slither Evil Town & Evils Of The Night The Shining & Amityville Horror Amityville Horror & The Conjuring Shocking Dark & Aliens Malignant & Spoiler:
Don’t click that last one unless you’ve seen it. |

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I vote to leave the optional items in. Never know when you'll be bedridden or end up having a whole lot more time in the challenge and it could be a nice distraction.

I would just leave it.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
James Wan in the writer category would be interesting. We've had him in the Director category but I don't believe the writer category. He has at least 10 (confirmed this time) horror movies with a writing credit..
Adding a category for dreams/visions would be good. |
