Here's the breakdown of how the savings work out, in case you're thinking about donuts and which gives you the best bang for your buck. I can't figure out the formatting beyond what I've offered below:
Package Quantity Original Price Original Unit Price Sale Price Sale Price
A Dozen Donuts 12 $1.99 $0.1658 N/A N/A
A Stack of Donuts 60 $4.99 $0.0832 $3.99 $0.0655
A Tray of Donuts 132 $9.99 $0.0757 $7.99 $0.0605
A Truckload of Donuts 300 $19.99 $0.0666 $14.99 $0.0499
A Store of Donuts 900 $49.99 $0.0555 $37.99 $0.0422
A Boatload of Donuts 2400 $99.99 $0.0416 $74.99 $0.0312

I think this donut sale is going to get me to break down and buy some. Probably the 132 or 300 pack. I can't justify spending any more money than that.
My question now is it better to buy buildings with those donuts (for hourly $ and XP) or buy items (cars, property related items) to get an increase in $/XP percentage for jobs?

And it's a good question. I've always spent my donuts (what few of them I have) on buildings rather than on multipliers, but multipliers do help level up faster, leading to more donuts. Though at only three per level, that's a long road to getting buildings. But I hear that if you buy premium characters, they earn premium amounts on their tasks.
Short answer is I don't know. I'm going to wait and see if the rumors about a new expansion are true, because that may influence my spending the way the snakes did. But I think I'm going to look into at least the cheap multipliers--Burns Limo is I think 20 donuts for a 2% multiplier, which seems pretty good compared to some other things.

I think if I buy donuts I'm just going to get what looks cool or funny and not worry about its cash / xp flow or its multiplier value. I'm already level 28 or 29 simply by collecting xp even though I have yet to build Burns Manor nor any missions / tasks beyond that. So I'm not in a rush to level up. I just think Drink is cool, for example.

Well that was awesome. I broke down and bought 300 donuts. I now have 329 donuts. I purchased Frinks lab and it didn't charge me. I also bought onto but it did charge me for that. So i still have over 200 donuts and 2 premium items. Sweet. Trying to decide which multiplier item I buy now.
Edit: awww crap. It did charge me. Just didn't reflect until after I logged off and then back in.

I would buy premium characters that come with buildings. Sideshow Mel, Duffman and Frink all get $1000 for a 24 hour task instead of $600.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
I, too, went the 300 donut route and with the donuts already in my bank I purchased Frink Labs with Frink, Krustylu Studios with Sideshow Mel, and the Duff Blimp. I've heard there's no animation or sound effect on iPad but when I tap it on my Android phone it has both belching animation and sound effect!
I'll hold onto my remaining 35 donuts and wait for one of these Gil sales which are in the programming but not offered yet to come out: http://tstotips.com/2013/05/23/what-...-in-the-files/
After building a major storyline building on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, I decided to put a moratorium on building until the end of the weekend. A few minutes ago, I reached $500,000 which is an amazing amount of scratch for me to have in this game. I decided to take the plunge and buy three more squares of land to put Frink, Krustylu Studios, and then I finally purchased Burns' Manor even though the game has been asking me to do so for days. So now I'm at $300,000 and feeling good about that amount of cash in the bank. I know I'm not far off from having much more cash than I know what to do with but it still feels like a struggle to keep it flowing.
I will add that on Saturday I got the $10,000 jackpot on the Itchy & Scratchy ticket with three red-banded axes. That was awesome!

Bought 900 donuts.
If you want maximum multiplier/XP, buy white fences. Someone did the math a .long time ago and that's the best way to go.
I will buy buildings though

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
I spent 70 of my 300 new donuts on the blimp since that's a limited-time item. Otherwise I'm going to wait to see what happens with updates, though the Burns limo is tempting too. I agree that characters who come with buildings are the most attractive overall.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
You know, I should have bought the 900 donuts because I will probably buy more down the road anyway and I forgot the Squidport update is just around the corner and who knows what premium items will come with that. *sigh*

Maybe in the past, but that's not necessarily true now. White fences are 1 donut for .05% increase. That means you need twenty of them to get 1% increase. There are several items for 40 donuts that give you 2% increase. Effectively the same, albeit slightly more expensive donut-wise.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
Yeah, that was last year.
My only "issue" right now with 909 donuts is that, while I'm tapping all over the place, I'm praying that I don't use donuts to speed up a task by mistake.

From your friendly neighborhood OP:
HOW TO NOT ACCIDENTALLY SPEND DONUTS: Donuts are rare, delicious, and expensive. Don't accidentally waste them. Click the build icon, then the little "i" in the upper right-hand corner of the pop-up box next to the movie camera. This will open the Options menu. There, you can turn "Confirm Donut Spend" to "ON" so it will double check with you in case you want to spend donuts in case you accidentally click the wrong icon. NOTE: You may have to reset this to "ON" again after an update so check it every once in a while.

Wow, I've been playing this game since Sept and never knew this thread existed until now.
Anyway...I've always found it odd that, at least at this point, the game still does not give you the ability to leave a message or comment every time you visit your friend's town. I mean, as it is, you don't even know which friend visited your town on any given day.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
I wasted some donuts before finding that option. I think the game is purposely set up that way as the screen is hard to maneuver on the iPhone at least. There are times that I'll browse the build menu and it will go into placement mode as if I bought the item without me meaning to. Luckily you can click cancel and get the dollars back. but if you tap quickly in succession, you might buy a building without really meaning to.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
I have that setting on, but when you are tapping that fast, and of course the confirmation message, and the ok button are setup so they show in the same position where the donuts button is. Someone mentioned that here already, when I saw the post I LOL'd, thought he was exaggerating. But then it happened to me.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
Yeah, the accidental spend is how I ended up with Kearney.
I wonder if he earns premium points--I never noticed.
The confirm-spend was added somewhat recently, perhaps with the snake update, and it's so hidden that I wouldn't have known about it if not for this thread. My guess is they did it to respond to criticism but didn't want to make it really obvious. I agree that even with it it's not hard to accidentally spend.
So now the yard sale is gone. Hoping the next event is about to hit.

Posts in the Tapped out forum say that you need 2 million to buy everything that is going to be offered in the Squidport update. *Gasp*

I've played long enough that I'd be OK with spending "money." The worse rumor I heard is that everything would cost a total of 900 donuts.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
Looks like the level 30 update will have almost 200 donuts worth of purchases.
Looking at what I can find about the Squidport update, it looks to be about 650 donuts worth of stuff, but one of the prices is almost definitely wrong since it says 1 donut.
