I was on DVDTalk hiatus for nearly all of 2015. If I missed your username this year and you need to be added, please post in this thread or send me a PM, thanks.

PLATFORMS: iPad, Android, and Kindle Fire; Origin / EA account required.
CURRENT EVENT: It's Not the Heat, It's the Humidity
HOW TO NOT ACCIDENTALLY SPEND DONUTS: Donuts are rare, delicious, and expensive. Don't accidentally waste them. After each update:
1. Click the build icon, then the little "i" in the upper right-hand corner of the pop-up box next to the movie camera. This will open the Options menu. 2. There, you can turn "Confirm Donut Spend" to "ON" so it will double check with you in case you want to spend donuts in case you accidentally click the wrong icon.
3. NOTE: You may have to reset this to "ON" again after an update so check it every once in a while. Follow the same instructions to get to the menu to turn off "Push Notifications."
GENERAL TIPS, TOPICS, & TRICKS:
- TSTO Topix has an excellent blog and frequently-updated Facebook Page.
- TSTO Addicts also has an excellent blog and frequently-updated Facebook Page.
- Mystery Box odds chart
- Homer Buddha odds chart
- Golden Scratch-R Ticket odds math
ACTIVE PLAYERS (DVDTalk Handle | Origin Handle): Latest Update: 03.28.2016
Please let me know if I've made a mistake and I'll gladly correct it, asap!

So I'm late to the party, but the game is fun. It has its elements of grinder and farming, if I'm using those terms correctly, yet the Simpsons humor is there, the play is fun, the tie-ins to old and current episodes are great, and I can see myself playing this for quite a while and not getting tired of it.
Of course, there's also the temptation to spend real money on it but I don't see that happening, really. MAYBE down the road but I think I'm find with the free version for now.
Open to hearing what tips and tricks people have discovered to leveling up, cash, XP, etc. I'm farming a bunch of brown houses and have found some donuts while cleaning up Springfield but man, those are hard to come by.
Anyone wants to add me on Origin, my username is the same as my PSN name in my sig without the spaces.

The only tip I can give is to use custom firmware and "enjoy" the game. They are too stingy with donuts and it is too eary to mistakenly spend them.

Yeah, I've ended up accidentally using a few. I'm level 12 and only have 14 when I should around 25 or so. This game is unforgiving with the accidental tap.
What do you mean by custom firmware? I'm playing on a Droid Razr Maxx, by the way.

I am running Cydia on my Ipad and no longer have an issue with lack of donuts, I am sure there is something similar for your device

Can you dumb it down a little? I have no idea what you're talking about, sorry. Is that some sort of unrooting / cracking / unlocking / jailbreaking sort of thing?

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
I played it for a while but stopped around Christmas time. It was fun. I too farmed a ton of Brown houses, but once I got enough money, replaced most of them with Blue. Those give less money over time if you look at the numbers, but only if you check the game every 5 minutes. Otherwise, it's better to sit back and collect money.
Making lots of friends and visiting their towns is another way to get a lot of stuff, especially during special times, such as Halloween. And when they visit your town, they reset the clock on things they click, helping you out.

As for general rules (maybe obvious depending on how much you've played), I'd assess how much you're going to play. Obviously the more often you play, the more bang you get for your buck (e.g., 45s tasks are the most lucrative), but if you're only going to play every four hours, put your people on four-hour tasks and only buy four-hour houses.
I didn't discover the star rating till I was well into the game and was wondering why other people were planting so many trees.
And yeah, watch out for those accidental donut spends. There's nothing worse than playing one-handed on the bus and accidentally hitting the rush button and being unable to cancel it in time.

I've been gauging the tasks based on when I think I'll be playing next but I haven't gone so far as to do it with houses yet. Probably will one I feel I have a comfortable amount of cash stored up to make the switch.
That's what I thought until after I got the first one on the first day I realized they were stackable (you don't go back to zero) and I already got the second one and am on my way to the third. Doesn't take much time at all... he says until the big giant prizes loom.

I think the Christmas setting was the best one for getting donuts, though I didn't get full benefit from it at the time.
I try to be fairly consistent about when I visit other people's towns, as missing a half-day here and a half-day there is ultimately leaving value on the table. Not always possible to work in to the real-life schedule, though, especially with the snake tasks added.
I've been assuming that it doesn't really make a difference in terms of points and dollars when you visit someone's town and whether you vandalize or whatever. I haven't checked closely enough to compare the returns.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out

As for the return value, I looked at them on the "build" end of things and it looks like the blue houses and white houses put out a little bit more cash and XP than places like Lard Lad or Krusty Burger. I had been going off the assumption that a business = more money than a house but those houses are far above-and-beyond something like the Android Dungeon's returns. So I'm going to go with the rich neighborhood homes from now on.
The Power Plant just came up for sale for me and I'm trying to save up for it. I'm trying to always keep at least $10,000 in reserves but I dipped into that last night and now I'm trying to build back up. I may have to bump up my reserves bank and do a little more grinding / farming for a while and be okay with that so I don't get hit hard with the next quest having a really, really expensive building I'm no where near being able to afford.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
While there is some talk about The Simpsons: Tapped Out in the iPhone/iPod thread, I think it can be easily buried there. Especially to someone like me who owns no iDevice but is a Simpsons nut and just discovered this game in the last two weeks.
There are at least 2 tasks associated with having friends in this game. Also, for Halloween, sometimes you will get a treat for egging or TP'ing. That's why I do it. Other than that, I like to see how other people layout their version of Springfield and to see how far behind I am.
I haven't spent any real money on donuts yet but it is getting tempting.

Hmm, thanks. I do have one task on my plate for friends plus the egg/TP so maybe I'll try this.
My Springfield's not that great either. I wish I'd started playing earlier because the Halloween stuff kind of diverted me from what should have been basic tasks.
That's the thing about playing against real people. All my problems in Kingdoms of Camelot I blame on other people spending their real money to upgrade.

So at some point I guess they'll push an update to Tapped Out without the Treehouse of Horror elements? Any speculation whether we'll lose our cemeteries, TP, etc.?
I've been buying and constructing each of the buildings as they come available, but I guess I should be constructing multiples of the generic houses (purple, blue, etc.) to build up my city and revenue. I suppose I could even do multiple Kwik-E-Marts, etc.

I finally got around to creating an origin ID and sent out requests to some of you guys (I'm seattlecub). I also discovered the sample Springfield and boy, does mine look like crap in comparison. If nothing else, I need some streets and parks.
Unfortunately I was too late to get my egg/TP credit, as those have disappeared post-Halloween. AT least I still have my cemeteries, and now they're putting out dollars instead of zombies.

That is really annoying. Sometimes if I'm on the bus or something and playing one-handed, it can be really hard to cancel that speed-up in time.
I'm still playing and was glad to see the Valentine's update, as I didn't realize how tired I was of looking at snow.
, but I'm just about done with that one too. If you keep playing and get to higher levels, it'll be harder to level up because they don't run updates with new levels that often. And I guess there's some kind of bug going around that's freezing some people out of there games, but I haven't run into it yet. You can add me: seattlecub.

Anyone in here still playing The Simpsons: Tapped Out? I play daily and would like some friends for the Whacking Day event. I had to purge my friends list and start completely over due to the current Lisa quest that steals snakes if sent to your town. Fell free to add me only if you send Lisa to "Other Springfield" and not my town! I'll do the same

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
I have been playing a few times a day since it launched. It's usually pretty fun, but can get boring when there are no events going on. Luckily this Whacking Day is good for 3+ weeks! Also finally won enough donuts for the Volcano Lair and Hank Scorpio, and also just won a Frinks Lab! Gotta love those Homer Buddahs

I added a bunch of you guys/gals who were not already on my list. My ID is Gooter.
I didn't know about the Homer Buddha. I just wasted my donuts (30 out of 34) on two Homer's and didn't get anything good, lol! Oh well, next time...
I still haven't used real money to purchase donuts and hopefully can still hold out.
I also need to redo my city layout. I've just been dumping buildings here and there with no organization. My initial thought was I wanted to get most of the buildings first and then go back and make it right but now it seems like that will be such a chore.
Questions:
1. What does the star rating do? I thought it just was a vanity thing. Does it get you more money or experience?
2. Is there a tap all button to collect everything with one tap? Probably wishful thinking since the name of the game is to tap, tap, tap.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
I have been playing it for a while. I do hate that donuts are hard to get and that some of the exclusive stuff you might want can only be bought with donuts. I also agree it is way to easy to mistakenly spend them or the "money" you amass in the game. I think that was purposely done. The little arrow to move through the screens of items to buy is way too small.
I've got my Springfield built up pretty good and am at level 27. I've gone through that a couple times as I guess that is the level cap.
I don't have a great star rating as I don't like having to put in things to "pretty" up the town and I'm a bit OCD about how buildings are placed. I don't have any friends in the game to visit their town. Feel free to add if you like.
CanisFirebrand should be my id on there.

Re: The Simpsons: Tapped Out
I tried to "trap" some people on a little island where I'm setting up the Whacking Day fair but they won't stay there. They wander on the little land bridge and then when I remove it and replace it with water they just walk on water. Was funny the first time with Ned Flanders but I can't seem to get them to simply stay put. I think it would be cool to have a bunch of people roaming around the Whacking Day tents.
I love how when you tell Cletus to whittle he will stop wherever he is and not move until he's done. I like to have him stop in the middle of the street 'cause I think it's funny.

Also, I found the options menu for the game where you can turn on the "confirm donut spend" and turn off notifications if you wish. Seemed hard to find to me. If you go into the build menu (hammer and saw) at the top right of the popup, there a little "i" for information button. Tap that and there's the options menu.

Man.. I think one or two of you that I added from this thread have a ton of snakes already. I think one of you had over 20k? I've been doing what I can and only have1766 at this point. I don't think I'll get enough to get all the time limited rewards. I've been whacking snakes in my town and the few other that I have friended. Sending everyone in my town that can do a snake whacking task constantly. I don't have a ton of donuts to buy the things that might help. I refuse to spend real money on a game.
I'll just have to settle for what I can get by the end of this event.
