Day One box is sexy like an Apple product. Green box is just OK.

Are we discussing the boxes now?

Yes. Boxes are the thing now.

Black one

re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
So only the launch ones will be in the black boxes? Is that really the first day only? It seems like a waste of a really nice design. I hope Amazon upgrades my order to day one soon...

The black x1 and PS4 boxes are pretty sexy. The green x1 box is too 360-ish.

Cross posting from the PS4 thread:
Weekend Confirmed had some controller talk this week. Around the 1:05 mark. G= Garnett Lee | J = Jeff Canatta A= Andrew Yoon | O= Ozzy Mejia Xbox:
PS4:
Kinect:
Reading this in text is one thing but it sounded like they were far more excited about the PS4 controller and loved it, while the x1 could use some tweaks. And Kinect still sounds like a joke. |

Sounds bias, no idea who those guys are.
About what I expected for the kinect though |
re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
You've never heard of Weekend Confirmed? 1up?
They are generally pretty platform neutral and if you had to call them biased the edge would be toward the 360. |

One of the regulars, Andrea Renee is a straight up Xbox fangirl, and she never even gets challenged on it. Back in their 1up days, they actually had a Sony guy, and it made for some entertaining debates. I wasn't taking notes, but I think all of them preferred the 360 controller to the DS3. |

They're very evenhanded and have actually been a little soft on MS this year, even during the DRM fiasco.

Guess I better cancel my preorder then. Sony wins the generation!

Microsoft courting indie developers for Xbox One
http://www.xblafans.com/microsoft-co...one-70881.html Chris Charla, director of Independent Developers for Xbox (or ID@Xbox), spoke with gameinformer recently and talked about why indie developers should consider self-publishing on the Xbox One. Charla, who has “always been a huge fan of XBLA” particularly for their “short-form game experiences” also discussed how exactly the programme works. In order to self-publish on the platform they need to be a “registered developer” who will then receive free dev-kits in order to work on their titles. He also added that Microsoft are “not really dictating the games” and that first and foremost they want to “[make] sure that our players have access to tonnes of original content.” The interview was accompanied by screenshots and footage of games not have not been self-published such as Cobalt, that is being published by Mojang but developed by Oxeye Game Studio and Fatshark, as Charla went on to discuss why self-publishing is not the only option for developers. “There’s lots of reasons to still go with a publisher” such as “financing,” “quality assurance” and also “promotion and marketing.” He also said that this was a good option for those developers who “want to focus on the game.” Despite this he added that there was “no exclusivity provision” for the programme, giving developers more options in terms of a release. They also “went out and talked to more than 50 different developers” in order to assess what independent developers would like to see and learned that what they wanted most was “discoverability” on the Xbox One which will now place all of the games that are available on the marketplace together. Charla also told independent developers to “get in touch”. For the full interview head over to Gameinformer. |

Also find it interesting that the general feeling by people that haven't seen, let alone touched an x1 controller think MS has that battle in the bag. Yet feedback so far has been glowing for the DS4, and in some instances preferable to the x1. |
re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
It was a joke. Controller impressions are better than phantom specs.
The controller talk is going to go the same way for the majority of people. The PS4 controller has nowhere to go but up, and the One controller has nowhere to go but down. |

All signs actually do point to PS4 being the platform of choice for cross-platform games this generation given its obvious hardware advantages and Sony's ongoing strategy of getting exclusive content (not timed, but actually exclusive) on so many games from so many different developers like Watch Dogs, AC games, Destiny, Arkham games, Portal 2, LA Noire, Red Dead, etc. I think there's a lot to be said for taking a wait and see approach to see what Microsoft does with Kinect and pricing and for seeing 1) how good Titanfall turns out to be and 2) how long its exclusivity lasts. Shocking right? |
re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
Signs don't point to shit. When the games come out and comparisons are made, then choices can be made.

The idea of being "soft" on the Xbox is funny to me, because that assumes everyone had to hate the previous policies which isn't the case. I'd actually expect gaming press to be less harsh then consumers, especially those that are more rounded and familiar with PC games since the DRM wasn't far off from Steam compared to the reactions of those that are generally console only gamers.
As for the controllers, I actually think its interesting that some weren't impressed with the One's controller. I don't think we've gotten that many first hand comparisons between the two, so its good to hear some opinions about it. And I'm someone that hates podcasts. |

I like the overall design, controller looks a little odd and the Kinect is fucking huge.

re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
Disappointing, but not surprising to read about the Kinect 2.0. MS can't let go of this motion tech even though it's pretty clear it doesn't work right. This is why I think it's a huge mistake to bundle one with every unit -- all the You Tube videos of people yelling at their Ones with comical lack of understanding combined with the total absence of any Kinect games at launch is going to make for some really bad PR. Especially with the higher price point to (apparently) cover the cost of the camera.

Zumba, Just Dance 2014 and the Fighters Uncaged sequel are Kinect launch titles.
