Paul Thurrott, a journalist, mentioned the April release a week ago. He was pretty confident about it (and still is).

This doesn't sound all that shocking to me. It makes sense to have a dedicated console announcement event ahead of E3 in order to focus on the features of the console itself. Then you can focus on games at E3.
