Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
The 100 minutes free is cool, but haven't Group Video Calls always been free?
|
Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
So you get unlimited minutes in-country, correct? The 100 minutes is simply international?
I might use it for chatting with my sister in Australia but even then probably not simply because FaceTime is free with unlimited time. |

Wow! That dashboard video is pretty awesome. I think that the X1's features are the only "next gen" thing I've seen so far from either console. Sony is still so far behind, I still can't imagine why someone would pick a PS4 first....I guess they just really have to play Knack:)

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
I'm not surprised. The official video is probably done under optimal conditions, optimal lighting, spacing, no noises in the background to make it look good, as it should. I think it's safe to assume it's doubtful most will experience anything that smooth. There's already been reports from game journalists discussing how it doesn't really work as well as advertised.

That's smart, sell the one division that actually makes money. I swear, MS is just making constant mis-steps, across every division of their company.

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
If your OTA antenna has an HDMI output then you can probably get the signal to your Xbox. You're not going to be able to do anything with it though except run whatever channel you're on with potential Xbox overlays. There'll be no programming guide or anything.

A recent report estimates they lose $2billion a year on Xbox.
The Entertainment and Devices Division, which includes the Xbox Division, saw revenue jump 56 percent to $2.53 billion when compared to the same period a year ago. Profits for the quarter were $342 million. edit: Stupid fucking internet, lost my edit.... Anyway, I see why they are saying that the Xbox loses $2 billion a year, but it doesn't seem correct. It's because they make $2 billion a year on Android patents (for FAT32, lol), and it's reported in that same Entertainment and Devices Division. However, Windows Phone is also a part of that division and we all know how poorly that's doing. They only equate the Windows Phone losses at $500 million, and equate the rest to Xbox. That seems like a very low estimate for their Windows Phone losses though. I'm not sure if the Surface is also a part of that division, but if it is, I'd also expect that those losses are huge. If the Xbox part of the company is indeed losing money (we'll never know exactly), I expect that is a recent occurrence because of the R&D involved with the Xbox One. http://n4g.com/news/1388707/xbox-los...uld-be-dropped |
Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
The analyst who wrote the article that the internet is now using to declare the Xbox dead says that they get $2 billion in patent money, which they count in the Entertainment Division, meaning if they had no Xbox in there they'd be getting $4 billion. Something like that. Shell game.

To play next-gen games. I don't post here in here often at all but found this comment to be a bit ridiculous. To assume that gamers should want to pick a system for things other than gaming and choose a system for some cool features that are unrelated to gaming is silly.

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
well, that means the previous quarter they had 1.68 billion revenue, and if their expenditures were the same, they lost $498 million the previous quarter. times four is 2 billion.

Umm, the X1 plays the same games? Consoles are more than just games nowadays, its more about how seamlessly everything fits together and works to make gaming easier. Having a great front end with effortless navigation and camera/voice controls is quite nice. To pick a system with the same games minus all the cool features is what is actually silly.

Do you really believe that all the games will be "the same" from this point forward? Yes, I will agree that some of the features are cool but not enough to take a loss in other areas where next-gen gaming is concerned. I like the seemingly seamless transition from one app to another but at the same time I never use my current consoles for more than one thing at a time anyways. It is a console for sufferers of ADD.
It all boils down to what the consoles can do besides gaming, and the X1 crushes the PS4 in that regard. Nobody just pops in a game and plays. Its all about online, party chatting, netflix, comparing friends profiles, downloading games/demos etc and the X1 seems to do all of that better, plus more. Just having Skype is huge for me, as I use that a ton to talk to family back home. |
