Yes, but there is always new exclusive IP to go with them, and they allow devs to move on to new IP.
- Naughty Dog moved on from generation to generation from Crash to Jak to Uncharted to Last of Us. - Sucker Punch from Sly to Infamous. - Evolution from Motorstorm to DriveClub - Quantic Dream from Farenheit to Heavy Rain to Beyond Two Souls - Insomniac from Ratchet to Resistance - Santa Monica from God of War to all kinds of stuff...and back. - SC Europe and Japan are always working on something new and quirky (Puppeteer, Knack etc.) Also, Killzone is on #3. How many Halos in the same timeframe? 4 + ODST + Reach + Remake...won't even count Wars. Agree about Ratchet and Clank though...ruining one of my favorite franchises. :( Same goes for Uncharted and Last of Us, though Last of Us is played at a decidedly slow pace. Killzone has 6 titles (Killzone, Killzone 2, Killzone 3, Killzon: Shadow Fall, Killzone Liberation, Killzone Mercenary) not bad for a mediocre shooter series (great visuals). I think my issue is I don't really love the exclusives on either platform (Uncharted 2 and Gears being the main exceptions), at least not the major ones. Xbox 360 had Super Meat Boy, Bastion, Fez and Splosion Man which kept me happy for a good while. PS3 had Echochrome. I commend them for trying something different with all the "interactive art" titles on PSN but that just isn't my thing. I do need to try out Closure though.

You can't upgrade the internal storage. But they did say you can plug any USB 3.0 drive in and use it for everything you can use the internal drive for.

Xbox One, PS4 help Amazon post biggest preorder week ever http://www.gamespot.com/news/xbox-on...k-ever-6410555 The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 helped the Amazon Video Games store post its biggest preorder week ever, the retailer announced today. During "peak demand" last week, Amazon customers were ordering more than 2,500 Xbox One and PS4 consoles per minute, the company said. Amazon also noted that E3 week preorders for Xbox One and PS4 led to a year-over-year increase in console orders of more than 4,000 percent. In addition, day-one preorders for the two consoles was almost two times that of all video game sales during Black Friday 2012, Amazon said. The Xbox One is currently the bestseller on Amazon's game chart, though the PS4 has five SKUs in the top twenty, while Microsoft has just one--the Xbox One Day One Edition. |

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Saturation of a title has to do with just how whored out the name is, Halo is a dirty slut but so is Killzone at this point.
Uncharted and Last of Us are very different but they feel very similar. Plus it isn't like they switch from Uncharted (very linear adventure game with excessive spurts of action) to Portal. They just went to a very linear adventure game with excessive spurts of stealth. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
If we really want to make this a dick measuring contest against console exclusives, we could just post actual sales numbers between the exclusive titles on the 360 and PS3.
And guess who wins in that one? |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
That'd be too much math since you would have to add up the sales of every individual exclusive title for both platforms, not just the big ones.

It's an utterly meaningless statistic. It would be like aggregating metacritic scores rather than averaging them. Actually, a weighted average of metacritic scores would be meaningful. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Don't forget games like Mass Effect, Lost Planet, Prey, Saints Row, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Metro 2033, Alan Wake and Dead Rising too as 360 exclusives, for the most part. Lost Planet was exclusive for over a year. The first Mass Effect was exclusive to the 360 for over five years.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
It is kind of strange you can swoop in and buy a Guaranteed-on-Launch Xbox One still, on Amazon.

Yup...and it also discounts the sheer number and quality of exclusives relative to each platform, and it doesn't control for number of consoles in the install base.

And as long as sites like Quarter to Three are on Metacritic the entire average is screwed. You can't give a game as rushed as Metro: Last Light a 5/5 while giving a game as polished as Halo 4 a 1/5. |

But over the past 5 years, when exclusives have mostly come from first party studios, Sony has really pulled away. |

Indeed, same with Bioshock for a year. The 360 utterly dominated the exclusives war in the first couple of years of this generation, but most of those went to PS3 once people figured out how to program for it.

(and no, I don't have proof. I'm kidding. Mostly.) When you're at the bottom, you pay to get stuff ported to your system after it is released elsewhere. MS actively does it with WP8, as does BlackBerry. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I only included games that were exclusives to the console. Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc. weren't included as they made their way to the PS3 sooner or later.

Matthew Chmiel: So what you're saying is Halo and Gears of War are really popular, especially in the USA?

We had the opportunity to chat with Albert Penello, senior director of product planning at Microsoft this afternoon, who was kind enough to clarify a few topics for us regarding the recently-unveiled Xbox One. One thing we were quick to ask about was the integrated storage. 500GB sounds like a lot today -- but so did the 20GB unit in the original Xbox 360. The HDD there was, at least, replaceable. Can you do the same with its successor? Sadly, no. Hard drives in the Xbox One are non-user-serviceable, but Penello confirmed that the USB 3.0 port is there for external storage, which can be used for everything the internal storage can be used for. That includes game installs and downloads. So, don't fret: adding storage will be just as easy as ever. |

Also, PS4 orders are scattered amongst the various bundles. Not sure what would happen if you added them all up. |

Also, to be fair, FPS are huge in North America, Europe, and Australia, but not elsewhere in the world. It's just one of the many reasons the 360 failed in Japan. |

I can't do the critic thing anymore, I find myself disagreeing more and more these days. Last of Us is not a 9.5/10, Halo 4 is not an 8.7/10, both are closer to 8s. Journey is not a 10. Deadly Premonition is not a 2. And as long as sites like Quarter to Three are on Metacritic the entire average is screwed. You can't give a game as rushed as Metro: Last Light a 5/5 while giving a game as polished as Halo 4 a 1/5. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
True. Outside of PSN and Xbox Live Arcade neither console had much variety but the PS3 had more non-FPS.

Not to go off on a tangent, but yes Halo 4 is super polished. It's also super dull. I'd rather play a janky, interesting game than a slick, shiny boring one.
If I were a game critic I would rate purely off enjoyment, so I kind of get it. I would also be fired in a week. |
