this doesn't make any sense. So you can't play PSN games that you downloaded if your internet connection is off, and they can't verify licenses? You'd think people would have ranted about this already, if true.

Yeah I got the date change and the error for Heavy Rain and RE5.
I tried to play Pixeljunk Monsters. I actually have the Encore expansion, but it now it's Monsters. It also treated my game as if it were a demo, it listed the option to "Unlock Full Game". Don't know how the hell it got this bad...unless this problem is related to the date screw up. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
It's possible that it tries a sync up when you do go online, and corrupted information or whatever came back. Otherwise, I'm sure others have played PSN games offline before.
What sucks about this is that my PS3 was dormant outside of watching movies, for a long time until a couple of months ago, when I started going through my backlog again and picked up Bayonetta and Darksiders for PS3 (since that's all TRU had at the time). I played Dragon Souls yesterday morning, and it played fine until somewhere in my playthrough I got logged out of PSN. Didn't notice a date change, but now I'm paranoid about turning the machine back on until this is all worked out. I blame that thread that has the poll about PS3 failures, and all the people (like me) that said we had no problems with our Phats... |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
Anybody with a working PS3 willing to change there system date back to 1999 and see if they lose the ability to play their PSN purchased games?
|
Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
Me too. Only thing I've ever played is the God of War Collection over the last month or so. I'm currently halfway through GoW2 and I didn't even want to risk my progress last night. I can wait.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
Got hit with this outage last night and it appears it effects Netflix playback as well. Does not effect BD playback though, although havent tried BD-Live. Did try to play some Super Stardust last night and it apparently needs a connection to validate you own the game so all I could play was the demo.

Just for fun, I checked the XMB on the clearly not-online PS3 at Target this morning (while searching in vain for a Clearance deal) and sure enough, it's 12/31 on that system as well. I wonder how they'll fix this. The only thing I could think of is a fix on the internet that you'd have to download to a USB stick and transfer over. What a clusterfuck. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
Couldn't they make it downloadable through some torrent system? I thought the Metal Gear beta was like that, where you logged in and it did some peer downloading thing through the PS3. I mean, the internet connection still works, right? Or is that hosed too?

Been quite a spike of the use of "clusterfuck" in this thread.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
I'm glad I found out about this issue before trying to do anything on my PS3. Last time I turned it on and was automatically logged into the PSN was Thursday night, to download SSFII Turbo HD Remix. Glad I did that, because God knows when Sony will have a fix for this date problem. Definitely not turning on my PS3 again until this whole mess is sorted out.

PS3 Error: 8001050F Caused By Clock Bug, Fix Within 24 Hours
Statement from Sony regarding 8001050F error. Bottom line, if you have a fat PS3, do not use it for 24 hours. Says Sony. "As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3. We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system. Errors include: * The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000. * When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)". * When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; "Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game." * When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; "The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)" * Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date. We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data. As mentioned above, Please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused. For the latest status on this situation please check either the PlayStation blog (blog.us.playstation.com) or PlayStation.com." |

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
Finally got my 5.1 surround set up. Any settings I should play with in audio/video to optimize my experience? Hooked up via HDMI and optical to my Kenwood receiver.

I can't think of anything special you need to do in the settings. As long as you have it set to HDMI, it should default to being the output for DTS, DD, AAC, etc. and your receiver should know what to do from there. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
I like how Sony says not to use the system for 24 hours.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. I'm glad they don't build cars....please don't use this car for 24 hours. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

You shouldn't need both optical and HDMI. HDMI alone should do the trick.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken
That's certainly one way to read it. If the receiver does have HDMI, then the optical connection is redundant.
