Re: The Official PS3 thread - Encryption? We don't need no stinkin' encryption.

I've tried several times today and have yet to get connected to PSN. I get the "undergoing maintenance" message every time.

I was offline for a little while, but then came back on pretty quickly.

turns out the credit card I thought I had stored in PSN and had been checking every day was the wrong one. But the one I did have stored expired in April, so thats nice.

Got an email last night from Sony saying that my new password was confirmed. Now, have to wait for the Store to be back to service, which probably won't be till end of the month on what I read.

I made a point to log in, change all my passwords, and remove my billing information last night.

I don't understand all this waiting for a email to change your password. I just logged in and changed it myself.

If you do it on the website, it sends you an email before you can change it.

yah, I thought I did something wrong with everyone complaining about waiting for emails. I updated fw, was prompted for new pw, received confirmation, done.

Did the whole password email thing last night. Didn't take more than 4 or 5 minutes...but netflix wouldn't launch and nothing seemed to work. I guess I was trying during one of the 'down' times.

How do you remove your credit card and billing info?

It's an option under account management on the website. I'm not sure if it can be done on the PS3 itself.

It's under Account Management on the PS3 as well - it says Billing Details, IIRC. I just removed my credit card info that way last night.

Go to Playstation Network - Account Management - Transaction Management - Add Funds

EDIT: Yeah, what UncleGramps said.

I wonder how many people are removing their credit card info today.

I also find it funny that minutes after I removed my CC info on PSN, I updated my Xbox CC info to buy that $1 Live deal.

Well, if you're coming while reading the forum then you are probably doing something wrong, unless of course it's the thread from other about the dudes sister.

Why remove/change your credit card information now? I think the damage (if any) has already been done.

I wanted to check just to see what card number I had on there. I'm glad it was an old expired one that I used to buy a game back in 2007.

Because I have no faith in Sony to properly safeguard my personal information?

How about the Japanese government doesn't even trust Sony enough to allow them to relaunch PSN over there:

via joystiq:

According to a report from the Dow Jones newswire, a Japanese regulatory official has confirmed that the nation's government hasn't given Sony approval to relaunch PSN services in the territory. The source, Ministry of Economy Content Industry director Kazushige Nobutani, says the government refused Sony's initiative to resuscitate the platform. "As of May 13, Sony was incomplete in exercising measures that they said they will do on the May 1 press conference." The details of which measures haven't been enacted yet were not released.

The source added that the government wants clearer terms on what Sony's doing to protect its users' credit card info, saying, "There were similar cases in the past that were caused by other firms, and we are asking Sony whether their measures are good enough when compared to countermeasures taken in the past."
So the question becomes what security measures were good enough for US & European users but not Japanese users?

I tried signing in and it says an email has been sent. That was 18 hours ago and still no email. I tried signing in about a dozen times. I have no idea how to change my password. I even tried the website us.playstation.com and says the same thing, an email has been sent. It says it may take 24 hours so I'll wait another 6 hours and see.
