Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

so, I'm trying to figure out if mine got "corrupted" without turning it on. I played Bioshock 2 last night when I couldn't sign onto PSN. But I didn't get any game/trophy errors.

I'm guessing PSN went down at midnight UTC, and PS3's didn't "break" until the local time hit midnight. Does that sound possible?

Mine wasn't working at 10PM ET last night.

PSN or specific games/trophies?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

The more I think about it the more the whole date/time thing doesn't make sense. The first report of a problem here was something like 1522 EST (post 526) which would be 2022 GMT/UTC (IIRC). So it wasn't a phantom "leap day" when the errors first started showing up. Additionally if this is the problem why would the machine magically skip a day (going to 2 Mar from what it thinks is 29 Feb) and correct itself tomorrow? I guess we'll find out tonight but I think the date is just a coincidence.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

When I turned mine on last night around 9:45 CST, it couldn't log into PSN. I didn't try anything after that.

I should have 57 trophies (according to my PS3Trophies.org account), but this only shows 45:
<a href="http://us.playstation.com/playstation/psn/visit/profiles/pinata242"><img src="http://fp.profiles.us.playstation.com/playstation/psn/pid/pinata242.png" width="230" height="155" border="0" /></a><br/><a href="http://www.us.playstation.com/psn/signup">Get your Portable ID!</a>

I have no idea if what 12 are missing, but I assume it's sequential. Is there no way to check online what you have and when it was unlocked unless you're on the PS3 itself?

I know I got my last trophy around 4 or 5 CST yesterday and it seemed to unlock just fine.

Obviously, this will only show the ones you earned before you last synched, so you might have some that you haven't been able to synch with the server yet.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

Thanks, but I don't see that has any different from the portable ID I posted above. I thought maybe it would list out the specific trophies, or even the games and how many on each.

it does just that.

Where on that link? I was there before and I'm there now. All I see is this:

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

You're supposed to be seeing a lot more under that top box. It lists the number of trophies for every game, and you can click on a game to see the individual trophies and when they were earned.

It's working fine in my account, but when I add your user name to the "compare with my friends" option (you can actually add any PSN ID there), it's showing 45 trophies total, but nothing next to ANY game for you ... so ... it looks messed up. :(

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

Ah, when I hit that "Compare with my firends" link and then hit back in the browser, it adds this:

So I have to do something through the console to manually add my trophies to this online list?

This is all so retarded. Like others have said, it's as if the PS3 arrived late to the Y2K party. -ohbfrank-

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

No ... it's supposed to happen automatically based on whatever you synch with the server. I haven't done anything extra to add them.

Ok, cool, I'll dig more into it when this crisis is over. Thanks!

Fabulous! Looks like I'm missing all my Uncharted 2 trophies(the last game I played).

I'm missing all my stuff from Heavy Rain. Also the last game I played. I turned on my PS3 once in the past 3 days, yesterday to eject the Heavy Rain disc. Awesome me.

I'm missing the last (and only) game I've played. Is it possible it doesn't sync to the servers unless you start a different game?

Walker Boh 03-01-10 01:53 PM

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

No, you don't need to play a new game. I've noticed that it synchs with the servers when I look at the trophy list while NOT playing a game, or when I look at my own profile in the friends list (either during a game or just on the XMB). If I do one of those but it's already synched and I haven't earned a new trophy or played a different game since then, it doesn't try to re-synch.

The last one I played / earned / synched was Darksiders (very early Sunday morning), and those are showing up fine for me. I did boot up the PS3 last night, but noticed something was wrong (thanks to seeing a much different background color than I had been seeing recently (since I'm using the default, and that's based on date)), went online to investigate, and turned it off without doing anything else. Guess I got lucky.

I'm missing some BioShock 2 trophies that I got Sunday AM. I then played MAG. Then when PSN was down I went back and played Bioshock 2 again, and didnt get any trophies, or it was broke. But the ones I got Sunday AM are def not there.

I'm missing all of my God of War trophies (and a number of those were earned two weeks ago; I uploaded stuff to their server four days ago), but my newer Burnout Paradise trophies appear to be intact:

Re: The Official PS3 thread - resolutions are meant to be broken

apparently this is a problem with the way the system is reporting the date to the OS (this has been gleaned from a ~6000 post thread at neogaf). the system is reporting 2/29/10 to the OS which realizes this is an invalid date , which in turn goes nuts and reverts back to 12/31/99. this prevents logging in to PSN. tomorrow, the internal clock will report a valid date (3/1/10), which then allow system to read a valid date (albeit the wrong one), which will then allow logging into the PSN.

if you need a correction today, apparently you can pull your battery, which will reset the CMOS battery. or you can wait until 0000 GMT, at which the internal clock should read a date of 3/1/10.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

Why was this not a problem on 3/1/2009? 2010 is no more a leap year than 2009.

Assuming that's correct, I guess we should expect a firmware patch to fix the OS to report the correct date once everyone can reconnect to PSN.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

This is the first even non-leap year the PS3 has seen. Coming out in late 2006, the only other even year it has seen was 2008 which was a leap year. So it may be assuming each even year is a leap year? Instead of every 4 years? Who knows but Sony said it was a bug in time clock functionality so whatever. Isn't CST -6 from GMT? So around 6 pm CST we should start to get reports whether it is registering the right time or not?

Someone in this thread said they were having problems w/ PSN at 1530 eastern time though (which would be 2030 GMT)... so that would seem to be counter indicative. Not to mention leap year has been around for quite awhile now, to screw up programming that seems a bit incredulous. I guess we'll see though.
