Amazon has now matched; $19.99 for Wii/PS3, but 360 is $20.98 for some reason.

BB's still the better deal with whatever RZ coupons/certificates and GH coupons are out there.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

I keep fighting with myself on this. The only reason I would get this is for achievements, I know it. It's so cheap, even without the GH5 coupon (which I don't have unless it's available online?).

I need to go to BB tomorrow anyway for a return. Looking at the achievements, I realize that I would have to play every song a minimum of 5 times, plus all the online stuff.

I wish I didn't hate the look-and-feel of GH so much...

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Two of the four stores in the city that had it in stock at the beginning of the day (360 version) are sold out now. (And the two closest ones to me, natch.)

Hope the others have it in stock by the time I can get over there with that stupid coupon tomorrow. Really don't feel like messing around with rainchecks or whatever for this thing.

Yeah, the amount of times you have to play through this game for cheesements is insane.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Possible catch. The $10 coupon is not posted on the site yet, but the current (expired) $10 coupon for a different set of games is still there, and the fine print reads:

Markdowns taken from regular prices. Not valid on sale prices and any other promotions except for Gamers Bonus Points.
The game is on sale for 19.99, so the $10 may come off the regular price, not the sale price.

Picked up Smash Hits today for $10. The coupon can be found on the last page of the Best Buy Gaming Insider (December edition, just look in the video game section) and they have to scan the back.

Where do you get the gaming insider? Do they have them in store?

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

They gave me a hard time at the store with the Gaming insider, since it says under the ads that that you have to print the coupons from the Gamer Zone website, and the barcode on the back only says that it's for joining the Gamer Zone.

Anyway, they said they couldn't do it without the coupon, but since the coupon isn't posted on the website, they tried to call corporate about the website. Corporate put them on hold for over 10 minutes, afterwards he decided to just take the $10 off.

So he took it off, I used the GH5 coupon, my $5 RZ certificate, they made me buy a pack of gum since the total before tax was less than 5 bucks, and I was out the door for $1.82.

The GH5 coupon came off before tax? I didn't expect that.

It says on the coupon that the buyer is responsible for sales tax, and since I was responsible for the tax, and the amount was going to be less than 5 bucks, they made me buy something else.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Right, manufacturer's coupons come off after tax is applied.

It should have been:

$19.99 sale price
-$10.00 RZ coupon
-$5.00 RZ certificate
-------
$4.99 subtotal
+$0.XX tax
-------
$5.XX total
-$5.00 manf coupon
-------
$0.XX out of pocket

Still, even with the forced bundle of gum, it's a good deal.

The only thing I can think of is that if they applied the manufacturers coupon to the 4.99 total, it would've paid for .01 of my sales tax, which I am supposed to be responsible for, and that's why they didn't want to apply it. But I guess it doesn't make much more sense that the manufacturers coupon pays for .01 of my gum, but considering the amount of time I had spent in the store already and the deal they were letting me get away with, I wasn't going to argue over a pack of gum.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

I was able to print up the coupon off the website just now.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I still have that GH5 coupon at home too.

For anyone who was as confused as I was about this, I think you need to be a reward zone member and then sign up for the Gamer Club (which are both free). Once that's done you should be at the Gamer Zone site and go to the Special Offers link and click the $10 off link. I don't know about anyone else, but the coupon showed up in a separate window (I'm using Firefox) with no menu bar, so I hit CTRL+P to bring up the Print window.

Yes, I knew where to get the coupon, but it wasn't online until just recently. I even logged into the Gamer Zone site and showed them that it wasn't there while I was at the store. I wonder if they finally put up the coupon because of the call that was placed while I was there.

I wonder if it will work with the actual coupon though, as the wording does say that it is not valid on sale prices.

"In the video game section" like...of the store? what? where?

I don't shop at BB regularly, and haven't been to the website in a long time. I wasn't signed up for the Gamer Club either.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I get a chance to try it out. Assuming it's in stock. Still, $5 for Smash Hits is hard to pass up. $15 or $10 would be doable too really.

I didn't know about the Gaming Insider pamphlet until the earlier post, but I did find it in the video game section of the store. On the last page of the pamphlet, it lists this months offers, and says to go to the website to print them out.

All I was saying was that if you use the coupon, and it's $10 off the regular price... the sticker on the game still said 59.99, Now I don't know if that's really the regular price, but even if it's say, 39.99, if they take $10 of that price when you use the coupon, you're better off not using it at all.

The "video game section" stuff was referencing brianluvdvd's quoting of mattysemo247 in post #883, not anything you had specifically said. Sorry for any confusion. My post was intended for people who maybe didn't know about the Gamer Club like me.

No, I got that. I was just thinking that if I could use the $5 off coupon from GH5 then I could get it for $15 and that would be pretty good. I don't know why I also said $10 ($20 - $10 coupon) when your point (to which I was responding) was that the $10 coupon from the website might not do you any good since it wouldn't apply to the sale price and the sale price is better than the regular price + coupon.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

I'll try my luck tomorrow. It seems it has been rejected in the East Coast, in NJ, according to cheapassgamer, but people from other states have been able to use the coupon and pay $10 or $15 with the GH5 coupon.

I have the GH5 coupon so I'm looking at paying $5 for the game...

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Thanks for this, got it for $10 no problem at my store.

Also, I'm new to this and Rock Band and don't have live yet. Are there any Built to Spill songs on any of these games?

Built to Spill doesn't sound familiar. (I've played them all but DJ Hero & Band Hero)

Thanks. I'm dying to play Time Trap on it. Maybe it'll show up in that Rock Band Network.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

I don't think my GH5 came with a coupon. I couldn't find it either way.

My BB also had no problem with the coupon. In fact, I don't think they even scanned it. Once they put in my reward zone info it just seemed to pop up automatically.

Very cool. Thanks for the heads up MWB. I think I'll go try Freebird now.

(On a side note: the BB I went to has the video games on their second floor. While I was walking up the escalator I somehow managed to trip and since I was wearing slippers I managed to slice open my left big toe in two places. I thought it wasn't that bad until I started dripping blood on my slipper. o.O Getting clumsy in my old age I guess! They have a med kit at the entrance and gave me a bandaid. Other than a slightly bruised ego and having to cut off some soon to be dead skin, not that big a deal.)

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

How fucked up is this?

Activision countersues No Doubt in 'Band Hero' flap

c/p'd for the lazy
Spoiler:

Activision Publishing, maker of the hit videogame "Band Hero," is standing up to the band No Doubt with a new countersuit alleging breach of contract.

In an answer and counterclaim filed last week, Activision accuses the band of failing to do its due diligence on the videogame before signing away its digital likeness, breaching a contract to provide marketing and promotion to the game, and being unjustly enriched by their inclusion in the game.

Last month, No Doubt set the stage for a very interesting court fight with Activision.

The band was unhappy that "Band Hero" allowed game-players to manipulate avatars to engage in unapproved acts, from having a Gwen Stefani virtual character perform the Rolling Stone's "Honky Tonk Woman" in a male voice to making band members do unrealistic dance moves. In a claim in federal court, the band asserted that its agreement with Activision granting publicity rights didn't cover these unanticipated features.

The game publisher admits that "Band Hero" allows players to "unlock" in-game characters in a variety of ways, but it says these features have been "publicly known" since the "Guitar Hero" franchise first appeared in 2005. The band participated in the motion-capture production process for the game, says Activision.

So who is breaching the contract?

Activision says it's No Doubt, by failing to live up to contractual obligations to promote the game. Since the band is allegedly failing in that regard, Activision believes that No Doubt has "obtained benefits from its inclusion" in the game and wants the band to disgorge all payments and pay damages.
