Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
What do you guys think about the Northern Bridge map? I like the idea of dividing it in half, and having the bridge be the only neutral zone. So, you have to stay on your side with a tank, or a turret, or a sniper rifle, and shoot at enemies on the other side, or you can take your chances on the bridge and try to get up close and personal with the other team. You won't be able to trespass onto the other team's base, but we could allow jetpacks and let people hover over the other team and shoot at them, but no warhawks and still no landing on the other base. I think this will really even the map out a bit and I would like to try it.
Now that Chew has requested Archipelago, I will make this my official request (if there's time).

eh, sounds kind of boring to me. There has to be other TDM maps out there that are small and a bit more uniform. Having a single choke point on the bridge would just make it a tank stand off and the team on the hill would still have the likely advantage. Not that I have any better ideas, just worried that 20-30 mins of that would be rather long and painful. What I would like to see over that is a TDM where all you can use is jeeps...matter of fact, why dont we just say jeeps only(and all weapons, except mines) on Northern Bridge. Would be hard to get overrun with that loadout. Maybe allow tanks but use the bridge rule that you can't cross over passed the bridge in a tank, otherwise the turrets will chew up the jeeps.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
I don't think I've ever failed to load Archipelago. It actually ran twice last week. It's probably my favorite map in the whole game.
Interesting idea on Northern Bridge, but I'd planned to take a break from it this week. I'm not sure that we can balance it anyway. If you take away Warhawks, the team in the "bowl" can only shoot from two points and the blue team has permenant high-ground. At any rate, I'd planned to use the city side as a K&N lobby, so you'll still see a good chunk of Northern Bridge.
What is the interest level in The Hunted? I think a couple of folks on here really liked it, but none of my coworkers seemed all that enthused with it....and I thought it was kind of boring. I'm leaning toward not doing it and seeing how Zombie turns out in comparison.
Definitely doing Zombie! Keep an eye out for South City on Badlands, and everybody go blue.

That was actually a response to Slider's suggestion...finished half the post and had to leave my desk for a bit.
I like the jeeps-only idea...maybe next week.

Random facts:
- Depending on your math, next week or the week after = 18 months of DVDTalk Warhawk
- 18 months x 4 weeks x 3.5 hours = 252 hours
- Some of you are approaching less than a dime per hour for Warhawk
edit for dicimal issues.

Perhaps a dime per hour!I bought it pretty early on, and I paid $35 for the version with the headset (which was worthless), and I got the expansions for about $20...so I'm in for much more than most.

Awesome night!
Zombie turned out to be just as douchey as I thought it would with team kills and diming each other out. I
at me and Don trying to give away each other's locations. He really was right behind your spawn point!
Knives and Nades was awesome...was nice to not feel obligated to use Grinder as the lobby since everybody has the DLC.
Funny stuff on the mines and jetpacks map. "AAAAAAAAAAAAARG!"
Grinder was awesome...maybe a bit crowded, but awesome.
"So you want to play 6 on 4???"
"Actually...yeah."

Gotta admit just from the sample of stuff last night the DLC was totally worth it. New maps are cool - jetpacks were neat - That flying behemoth was pretty cool too. I feel like I've been holding you guys back - sorry. Had fun in the zombie mode and on Grinder. Felt special this week since I actually had some matches where I wasn't totally useless.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
I had a great time last night for the most part. Zombie was a lot of fun, but I think some weapon limitations are in order for the zombies and for the humans. Zombies should be easier to kill (we've gone through this in CoD).
Fun times: 'Accidentally' knocking Steve off the roof of that building on destroyed capital. Me and Nic having tanks at our base on Archipelago. Killing (and getting killed) by Digi on Omega Factory ("Nice... fuckin' bastard")
. Everybody taking turns getting into warhawks on the no-warhawk Eucadia map. Cruz shooting at me during the zombie map giving away our position
. Steve and I in a tank running from two warhawks (Flip and Friz), and a Chew-manned tank... until I ran out of wrench and Chew destroyed us.
Now, unfortunately, three things that made me want to turn the game off last night: Frizby TOW'ing Steve's APC and then allowing his team to use one to plant a flag (they may not have known how to boost, but they sure knew how to use the shield!). Frizby allowing mines, and then proceeding to whine about said mines for 75% of the map. Frizby's team being up over 20-25 kills during an entire TDM and him saying he "wasn't going to look at the score," and then when his team was down by two flags the next map he stopped playing completely. I came very close to just shutting down the game and coming on here to say that I was done with Warhawk, but it's still fun for me most of the time so I didn't.
Friz, when you are having a good time you are one of the funniest and most fun people on here. When you're not having a good time, you break the game for me. Next time I'm going to have to mute you, because I want to continue to enjoy the game. Not trying to be a dick here, and it's nothing personal, but I thought you should know.
I'm having déjà vu because I've typed these words before and deleted them because I don't like conflict. I wish you could treat Warhawk like what it is: just a game.

So, teamkilling on zombie pretty much breaks it for me. I don't understand the motivation of it too much as then it just becomes every man for himself...oh, except the zombies, they work as a team

Feels to me it should be more like horde mode where you all hunker down as a team and try to hold off the zombies...you know, like all the zombie movies and stuff. That way it is hard for the zombie in the beginning and then hard for the survivors as people get picked off. The current model it is easy for the zombies and hard for the survivors the entire time because the survivors are just playing hunted mode. I would also say that we should limit the weapons for zombies to something like all non-explosive weapons so that they have to pick off people one by one instead of binocing the entire survivor group as that makes hunkering down out in the open basically impossible.

I'm not a fan of team killing in that mode either. You should only become a zombie when a zombie kills you. And I definitely agree on that mode of play (survivors hunkering down in one area), that's how it has worked best in MW2 so far.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
Not to pile on, but I agree with Slider on this as well. Noone is keeping score really, however you tend to gauge the balance and fun of the match solely on the current momentum of the score which makes it quite difficult to really have any good matches. I don't think anyone would disagree that if one team is up 3-0 then they should probably let off a bit(however you tend to disagree with a team playing defense in this situation as well, so not sure what they are to do), however just because a team scores 3 unanswered(ie, coming back from 2-0 to be up 2-3) is not the same thing. Generally it feels like if the team you are playing against gets on a run then you just get very frustrated and either ride your team, complain or do some form of quitting(ie not spawning, sitting back at your base, etc).
Anyway, like Slider I am not trying to be confrontational, just wanted to make sure it was known that Slider is not the only one who feels this way just for being fuckin' Slider. You severely overestimate my effect and underestimate your effect and it is just frustrating when I know we could have some pretty intense games if you just stuck with it when the chips are down.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
My problem is just that I view the game on two levels: As a player and as the host. As host, I'm always watching for balance and feel some accountability for the games being interesting. You may notice, or you may not, but I'm always watching my own team as well, and I'm always the first to back off or sit out a map for balance, and I might be oversensitive when folks don't reciprocate. The only person I can think of who ever volunteered to sit out a map to let me play was Z, and that was maybe once or twice.
On that note, can I just ask that if you are switching teams, you say something? Last night on Badlands, I was fully backed off and watching the balance and suddenly my team was screwed because I wasn't engaged and somebody switched (can't remember who).
On the flag/TDM thing, I tend to get much less frustrated on TDM than I do on flag. When the other team has the spawn points, has you overwhelmed and is cruising off with your flag at will, you just feel helpless. In TDM, it's less of a problem because you can always retreat and regroup. Also, the score is more dynamic and more easily overcome and therefore matters less. I also think that TDM lends itself much better to the play style of some of our more easily distracted players.
@ digi: It's easy to judge other's attitudes when you always win. Just bear in mind that while you are always winning, I am almost always on the other team. Over the course of the night, it wears me down a bit. Everybody else is sometimes on your team, sometimes on mine, so they probably notice less.
@ Slider: Please feel free to mute me. I have you muted already.
