Precisely the reason I started this group...so point taken.

The DVDTalkers make Warhawk fun in the most moderately Douchey way possible.
I don't disagree, but it only works because all of the tools are already there:

- The game is balanced (everything has a weakness)
- The game is simple and fast (anybody can pick it up and compete)
- Weapons are simple archetypes and are always in the same place on the d-pad
- The vehicles control intuitively & aren't overpowered (arguably the Warhawk is, but she's fragile)
- The online interface is "drop-in/drop-out" and is very intuitive (compared to U2 or RFG anyway)
- Anybody can host a game natively from their PS3 (# dependent on upload speed)
- Reliability. How ofted do you get booted from Warhawk?

Not quite Warhawk (and not particularly interesting) but the Halo reference works for Warhawk. Sub Warhawk and it's worth the 30 seconds.

I do hate Activision though. Mostly, I hate their business model...the way they milk their customers with a new game every year and multiple $15 map packs (which people are happy to buy because they are whores ). Ultimately, they'll destroy the franchise just like they did with Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk and Spider-Man, and Bobby Kotick will wipe his hairy ass with your money (or possibly Cruz's).

Meanwhile, three years later, Warhawk marches on. We may never even get a sequel, and I'm not sure that I care. It's a perfect little playground as-is, and you can have the whole experience for $25-30.
I now hate Activision and Bobby Kotick even more than ever because of their obvious greediness. They sell more than 8 million copies of a 60 dollar game, get more than 6-7 milllion downloads of 2 map packs at $15 a pop and he they complain that they are losing out on money. I think Activision is on the verge of trying to assrape CoDers by trying to charge for online access - which will be the point where I part ways with Activisions bullshit. Just a little rant. I still CoD.

New developments:

Shaoxen (sh-ow-zen) got the DLC and Lee has it as well...Teflon can't make it, and Cruz will be on late.

All this adds up to:

- Early DLC!!!!!!!!
- Original maps late (in case Cruz can drop in)
- K&N Lobby (I'm thinking either Rumble Dome or the snow village)
- Grinder in the middle
- Considering a dogfight bathroom break for Chew...but probably not

I'm pretty stoked to get a bit of Vaporfield Glacier back in the game!

FYI, If I drop in, it will be later (9-9:30ish EST), and I don't have any DLC yet.

Canx Rumble Dome...even though it's an awesome K&N map...doing Grinder Vehiclur Manslaughter instead.

Did you say 8:30 because of Rumble Dome, or is that just when you'll be on?

The cool thing about starting with Grinder is that you can end with it as well...if folks want to stay on and do it again.

FYI for Cruz/Cactus:

DLC 3-pack is $15.99 on Amazon, which I think is $1 cheaper and tax-free.

A storm knocked out my power for a minute and when it came back on, internet service was out.

Multiple modem recycles never solved it, it's looking like it's totally out for a while.

Posting from my phone........

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

Missed ya Chew.

Pretty good night, though. I hope the new guys weren't too frustrated...sensed it a bit from Lee.

Digi = BEAST (at least in our group)

I wasn't too frustrated. I had fun, even if I sucked at it, lol.

BTW, I dunno if there was something wrong with my mic. I had it on, and I could hear you guys in my headset, but it seems you couldn't hear me.

It was great to see you in the game!

You probably had your mic set to "push to talk". It's in the in-game menu under audio...check the "open mic" box. Recommended audio settings can be found in the OP.

Things felt a bit "off" tonight for some reason...might have been the light early turnout (ultimately ended up with 13, not counting Chew). Or it might have just been the sheer number of new people (Lee, Shao, Cactus, Marcus, Cruz), which slows the game down quite a bit. And I think I missed team damage.

I'm having a hard time thinking of specifically funny things, but a couple come to mind:

- Running head on into another jeep and getting knocked backwards...right over Lee.

- Sneaking around the backside of the base on Installations and tossing a biofield on Marcus' tank...making him jump out...and then shooting him with his own tank. It felt very Slidery.

- Getting in nic's mined tank, with him saying "You don't want to be in here"...which of course ended....badly.

- We only had 3 people in that last Grinder, so it was significantly less chaotic...but still pretty funny.

NO MINES next week (still in the OP). Rules are being bent in huge unsavory ways, and the new folks don't understand them anyway. Chew was, of course, correct.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

Incidentally, I liked that Tau Crater map (Tug of War) as a Warhawk-free TDM. Once we get a full group of DLC owners, we'll have to get that in the rotation.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

The Cable company said there's no service outage in my area and my older model modem probably got fried from the power outage, so I have to exchange it this morning.

The Flaming Turtle of Death will return next week.

Yep, it seemed like a lot of people were guilty of that last night.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

I had a bastard of a time getting on last night. Between family visiting and technical difficulties I don't know if I got to play more than three whole maps). Also, maybe I'll actually be able to communicate again next week.

On one map, Cactus had the flag and he was standing at the center of the base watching the skies just asking to be BALL'D, SLIDER'D or just generally blow'd to bits. I tried shooting my pistol at his feet and then motioning back to the bunker but that wasn't really sending the correct message. Then I tried shooting at him and running into the bunker so he'd follow me. No luck there either. I thought about teamkilling him and taking the flag into the bunker myself. I tried defending him instead, but that didn't last long. He got blasted a second later so I picked up the flag and hopped up in the bunker rafters anyway.

Yeah, I didn't really understand what to do once I got flag back to our location. The map directs you to go back to this circle, and once I got there I was standing in the middle of it and I thought maybe I was supposed to plant it there or something, but damned if I could figure out how to do that.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

Someone on the other team must have taken your flag before you returned to base. You can only plant the flag when your team has both flags in your possession. The best thing to do is find a good hiding spot near your base and wait until someone on your team retrieves your flag.

If the other team has your flag at the same time, the only thing you can with theirs is defend yourself until your team flag is returned.

You would've been safer in the bunker.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

I was only on for an hour or so, but a few funny things happened:

1. Trying to surf my way back to capture the flag ontop of Digi's Warhawk was fun, but Flip had to ruin it, causing me to ultimately fall to my demise...

2. "laying off the newbs" and just hanging out at their base shooting Cruz and Cactus with the pistol and health mines

3. as soon as I joined, i was driving a tank, and Steve ran into me in a jeep, full speed, sending him almost over the edge of a cliff, I turned around, aimed "real good" and fucking missed him...he drove away and i was like "FUCK!"

and the funniest thing, by far...

4. the very last second of the night, me, slider, and chess in the lobby (knives, nades, pistols, and health mines) chess and I are running at each other with like 5 seconds left in the match; swinging knives, and all-of-a-sudden, chess dies, and we were like both WTF...chess says ""what happened...oh...of course." and i look and just catch that slider sniped him before the match ended and the screen changed. It takes a special skill to break the rules of a match, only in the final seconds and still totally frustrate someone the way only slider can...

The last Grinder match was a lot of fun, and I'm beginning to enjoy the health mines.
