But the demo is pretty good, and it sounds like it get even better.

For those of you that are still not hyped up, check out the latest trailer...
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XIJ7eTKx_mY&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XIJ7eTKx_mY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
And another review, this time from JoyStiq, calling it the best game of 2009 so far:

Rest assured, I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that Batman: Arkham Asylum is unquestionably the best licensed game I've ever played. At the end of the day, however, that's a fairly low hurdle to clear -- it better reflects the game's quality to say it's one of the best stealth-action games ever made, and easily the best video game 2009 has had to offer thus far.

A big part of the game that you don't get a sense of in the demo is the exploration aspect of it, and the fantastic world they've created for you to explore. This is much more of an exploration game with a solid story than anything else, and that's what's pleasantly surprised me about it. Because going off the demo, you'd think it was just a sold action game, and while it certainly has that aspect to it, it's so much more.

I'm getting a Metroid with Batman vibe...which sounds f'ing brilliant.

For those of you with a 360 and a PS3, which version are you getting? I'm torn between achievements (trophies just don't have the same weight for me) and the exclusive Joker stuff.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
Fuck it all. I guess I'll be at TRU at 10am tomorrow to get the 360 version. I don't care enough about the extra content to bust the cherry on my PS3 gaming for anything that isn't God of War or Kingdom Hearts.

For those of us with both a PS3 and the 360, I don't see how anyone wouldn't pick the PS3 version. I mean, read this...
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/101/1017156p1.html
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lcOwEvkjzhc&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lcOwEvkjzhc&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I guess if you don't care about the Joker I could see why you'd spring for the 360 version. Some compare site gave the edge to the PS3 version too, from the technical standpoints, although I can't remember the name of the site I was looking at earlier. They're just about the exact same though, so either way you'll have a great game.

Again, this is way tougher than Batman's challenges, and I love it. Aside from getting even more dynamite dialogue from Mark Hamill, these modes provide a challenge by stripping away the gadgets you've been leaning on the entire game and diminishing your health bar. Joker's ground takedowns take longer to pull off so you'll need to have an eye for when to spring them, his reversals are funny like when he salutes a guy while simultaneously hitting him in the face, and so on.
The long and short of it is that the Joker's addition is a free piece of downloadable content that really changed the way I viewed the challenges. Suddenly, my go-to tactics were gone and I was left on two feet and surrounded by good guys trying to take me down. These modes are a worthy addition to Batman: Arkham Asylum that'll separate the Batmen from the boys.

My hopes certainly weren't high for this game, and I wasn't that impressed with the demo, but I'll definitely be picking this up before the end of the week.
Sadly, this means stopping in the middle of Infamous, but I'll pick it up again in a couple weeks when I'm through with Batman.
Oh yeah, and I'll probably get the PS3 version.

Plus, I seriously doubt the Joker stuff will be a "forever" exclusive. And even if it is, I will just nab a used PS3 copy from Goozex in a year or so if people say it is worth it. From the descriptions I have read, it is mainly for "trial" type levels which I generally don't enjoy in games anyway. This title sounds good enough that there will likely be plenty floating around used/clearance/trades in the future.
My main curiosity is seeing the sales figures a month from now. Since the 360 usually dominates the PS3 in cross platform game sales, it will be interesting to see if the Joker missions are enough to push the PS3 version ahead of the 360 one.

Here is the site doing the comparison that I mentioned earlier...

It's really a toss up if you don't include the PS3 exclusive Joker challenge maps and all of that.

Although we’re pretty sure you’re gonna be happy with buying Batman: Arkham Asylum on either console, we believe the PlayStation 3 is the better game even if it wasn’t a perfect win.

It's really, truly a 3-D Metroid, through and fucking through - with just as much attention to detail and quality, if not more. The only difference being, since you're Batman, instead of guns and shooting like in Metroid, there's a beat-em-up combo system in place, and upgraded gadgets to get you to areas you couldn't before.

Slop101...you sold me on the game. I'll pick this up tomorrow for the X360. I am an achivements whore so my PS3 will collect even more dust.

EB Canada is doing a promo - trade 2 qualifying titles, get this game for free until August 27... I've seen a few $9.99 games around that work, so for $20, this is mine!

amazon guaranteed me tomorrow and still no shipping confirm. I know they are slow sometimes though with the tracking info.
I once got tracking info for a bluray 1 day after I had already received it lol...
Not only that, but it will probably be packaged in a refrigerator box. Last bluray I got was in a box the size of Rock band 2. I thought I had somehow just ordered packing peanuts, but turns out I did actually order a bluray

I just called three different Gamestop stores in my area (Louisville, KY) and not one had any copies for the PS3 available tonight for non-preorders. Sheese.

What the hell, Amazon...I have guaranteed release date delivery, and still no shipping confirmation. Not just this, either...two other orders of DVDs that I'm supposed to have tomorrow don't show as shipped in their system as well. Usually they're shipped by 2-3PM.
I'm pissed.

Just got back from GameStop, and wow. The place was packed, I couldn't believe it. There were at least 15-25 people there waiting at midnight, and the manager who is a friend of mine told me that he was going to be there until 1am and that a ton of people told him they wouldn't be there until later on in the hour.
Anyway, I got it, now to play it!
