DL the demo - definitely a game I would buy and I just might - you feel completely in control but yet challenged at the same time; this is what games are SUPPOSE to be like. I love the interaction between your enemies as well (i.e. after you swoop in for the kill and repel back up...your enemies yell out "where is he!! I just saw him!! he took out....).
Graphics are great as well. Surprising game.

The more I play it (I'm about 4 hours in and "10% done" - I guess I need to look for more secrets, though I need more power-ups to get them), the more awesome it gets.
This game has totally given Shadow Complex the dirt-nap for me. Make sure you finish that before starting Arkham.
Seriously, not to hyperbolize, but this is definitely "game of the year" material folks.
What's taken me by surprise, even more than the solid game play, is the atmosphere and the level of immersion that even gives Bioshock a run for it's money.
I'll field questions.

For those of you interested, it looks like at least the PS3 version is available at most Target stores already. Oh man that's tempting, but I shall wait!

How are the controls and difficulty? I have a real hard time with button string combo mashing.

Absolutely. It's a AAA-game all the way - even if it wasn't Batman, it would make a great game.
You get to choose your difficulty (easy, medium, hard). I picked easy just so I can focus more on exploration, and it's been a cake-walk so far. I could totally see playing this again, and picking hard for my 2nd go-through.
The fighting works well as both button-mashing or combo-strings - it's fun either way, but you have to make sure to look out for counters, which are easy to get the hang of.
The game just keeps surprising me every step of the way.

i love how my local Gamestop is staying open late tomorrow to sell copies. Is there such a demand for this game that warrants it?

Lots of hype with this game, I suppose. I cannot wait until I get my copy Tuesday.

Let's be real here. What percentage of people come and pick the game up at midnight? 10%? 5%? I mean, if people have already preordered it, the likelihood is they'll come in and get it there instead of buying somewhere else.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum
i've been lucky enough to get the game today from a preorder.
I've played about 2 hours and only got 2% completion. strange because the ign reviewer said it took him 9 hours. maybe the % completion includes getting all the achievements?
Graphics are pretty good and i love the cut scenes.
I cant figure out when the game is saving though. There is supposed to be an autosave icon that pops up when it savings, but i've yet to see it.
Playing it on normal and so far the game is a cakewalk. I encountered one boss fight so far and he was pretty easy.

Also, the game does kick ass....I'm about 20% or so into it as I don't wanna rush it. 3 of my friends already beat it after a day or 2 it's that good. It's VERY close to Bioshock for best dark/adventure game ever.

As if I haven't talked this game up enough, I'm just a little past when you first get to
, and I can attest that this game is a flat-out masterpiece. Maybe my expectations were low, but man, they fucking knocked this one out of the park - this game's on the same level of quality and polish as a game like Bioshock, Gears of War, or a next-gen 3D Metroid game.

I'm honestly surprised at all the praise for this game. I thought it'd be just another screwed up attempt at bringing a comic book to video games. Definitely picking it up now though.

I'm on vacation starting tomorrow so I'll be at Family Video at 10:00 to rent it. Hopefully I can get through it, with all obtainable achievements, in 5 or 10 days.
