Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

The PS3 demo is decent...something I might get down the road when it's cheap, but there's no way I'd be even remotely interested if not for the batman license.

I loved the demo. But yeah, alot of games are like that. You take away the license, and it's just a generic game. The detective mode is great, and Joker reminds me of an older, crazier Stewie.

I am pre-ordering this at Amazon right now.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Just played the demo as well. It was pretty short, and I only had to replay the final stage more than once to successfully complete it. Definitely got Splinter Cell deja-vu from playing it, and I remember how I sucked at Splinter Cell after getting deep enough into that game.

Visuals were ok, but for some reason didn't wow me as much as I thought they would. Saw quite a bit of aliasing as well. Other nitpicks: the camera angles were bothersome at times, and I found tapping L2 for toggling detective mode wasn't always as responsive as it should have been.

I'm 50/50 on this one, but I might just wait a few months when the price drops on this one, as I'm sure it will.

Add me to the list of people impressed by the demo. The stealth gameplay was surprisingly fun. Still only a rental for me, but that's more about saving money than it is the quality of the game.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

I liked the demo and already preordered the game at BestBuy.com, I had some GC and there's a special offer for Rewards Zone members. If you preorder the game at BB.com they give you 250 bonus points.

I think the graphics were good, nothing spectacular but we are talking about the Unreal engine, so we have seen those kind of graphics for a long time. I think the game will look/play a little bit better in the Xbox 360 so that's the one I ordered. Specially the controls, I think I'll be able to use the Xbox controller better for the combos.

Played the demo on the PS3 last night and loved it. The one major complaint I have is the use of the slow motion. It seemed like the camera switched to that slow motion view with every other punch.

I loved the Joker's patient interviews as well. I hope they have other patient interviews in the final game.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

I just finished the demo, and I liked it. It feels good to have a Batman game that's not terrible. I do have complaints about the camera being way too zoomed in behind Bat's shoulder, and I thought the demo ended too quickly and didn't give me a 'WHOMG I GOT TO GET THIS GAME!' feeling. The cocktease of facing Croc at the end did make me want to play more though, so I guess it did what it intended to do.

I guess I'll go with the PS3 version to get the Joker maps. They are free and already on the disc, right? And not payable DLC?

Loved the demo. Been wanting to preorder this but for the life of me I can't get this in my goldbox at Amazon. And I've tried all the tricks I know.

Also, with the CE offering the special challenge room and gamestop offering their own challenge room DLC, what exactly am I going to be missing out on by not getting those?

It is a Unreal Engine game and has the look of Stranglehold or the Punisher game on PSN with way better graphics of course. I think I'm sold and can't wait to pick it up.
That's really surprising. From the trailer, it is one of the best looking games I've ever seen. I get so sick of Unreal engine games being all dark and gray. Nice to see some color for a change.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Well the game played a bit better than I expected, and I will be happy with my purchase. The camera is WAY to zoomed in though, and Batman turn/moves a bit stiff and sluggish. Otherwise, great music/graphics/voice work!

There's a way to influence what shows up in your Gold Box?

Jedi Mind Trick.

Actually, you look at the item (but don't actually preorder the item), then look at those items bought commonly with it. The next day, review the "Selections for You" and deselect everything but the item you want. When you do that, you can sometimes get the item you want in the gold box, but it's not 100% by any means. It got me Uncharted 2 for a few bucks less though.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

So I just played the 360 demo and either I am imagining it or its because I was playing on a bigger tv with better resolution but this game looked better then on the ps3. I still am not big on the seem of lack of control of the moves once you push the button, but what I do like is the relative ease when it comes to switching to other attackers this does make it above some of the other "beat em up" games that are out there it was very easy to attack another guy even if the original was not defeated yet. I think this is a game I would buy even if it wasn't Batman but it does make it a bigger deal because it is . The only bad thing is I think since you are in only one building basically the level designs might get a little boring. I would like to see some free roaming batman like the spiderman games.

Even though I originally said I would not pre order this, I really enjoyed the demo. I still will wait right up until the last week, to wait for some more buzz, but I really think I will like this game.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

I like the demo but with a buncha upcoming games that are on my "to buy" list this one will wait for a bargain price and a lull in the gaming releases.Looks like it will be a lot of fun to play through.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

For the few of you out there, the PC demo was released today too. I tried it in my PC, middle range, and it looks really great, better than the PS3 version of course, I haven't tried the 360 version though.

I won't bore you with the details, but if you have a really good PC, with all the latest hardware, you can see really good eye candy in this game.

Definitely liked the demo enough to buy the PS3 version. Also got it Gold Box so 47.99 shipped. I'll take it.

Did you use the $5 off code?

Yes. It was 52.99 at the time I ordered minus the $5 code. The Gold Box was a mistake - think I was thinking of something else I ordered.

If you put down $20 you can join the ECA and get an additional $5 off the price of the game. You get 10% off Amazon's video games for a year.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Demo was very good. It's exactly what I was looking for in a Batman game. I don't know if I'll pick it up at launch, but this seems like a superb $30 game.
