It takes a while to get into, but I cannot wait for it to start again.
Any news about the regulars (police and criminals)? Are they all coming back? I haven't heard anything saying that they are not, so I am hoping that they are all coming back.

I would hope some of the bad guys from the 1st season come back for the 3rd season.

I tried the show initially came on the air. After several episodes I gave up.
People raved so I tried again and lost interest again.
Then more people raved so I started Season 2 and enjoyed the bodies piled in the ship episode but lost interest once again.
I respect everyone's opinion, but I just don't find the characters the least bit interesting.
I'm not a huge Shield fan but I found their cast of players a lot more watchable than The Wire.
It's kind of weird cuz normally I love slow and heavy stuff.
I must admit I am burned out on crime shows. The 80s and 90s WAY overdid the whole police, doctors and lawyers in my opinion.
All that being said. I'm sure I'll find a way to watch it marathon style and end up actually enjoying it.

Definitely exciting to see the new season's first episode in my "To Do" list on Tivo - I *love* this show and am stoked about the new season, much more so than any of the new shows on network TV, or even any of the returning shows for that matter (except Scrubs...and Arrested Development...but they're comedies so it's different...

A few questions/speculations and general musings...
Will Daniels have a Major Case Squad, like it seemed he was going to get for his work last year?
Will McNulty's kids, arguably better potential cops than Herc and Carver, be in it?
Is Daniels still sleeping next to the coat rack?
Will Avon find out about Stringer's collaboration with Proposition Joe?
I can't wait to see what Price, et. al. will do to ad to this already powerful show.
(I couldn't help but think of McNulty the other day as I was watching the end of Scarface, when he was commenting at the end of S1 on the overkill of the S.W.A.T. unit.)

After the officer put his captain's hat on, that's when the guy realized he was a cop. He backed up and his buddies started laughing at him. The captain (not sure of his rank) then just drove away.
BTW, did Rawls and Burrell get promoted? What exactly are the rankings of all the officers now?

"No...he's in the cake."
Rawls is Deputy Commissioner. That guy called him "Deputy" in the City Council hearing. (I just confirmed that at the HBO site: http://www.hbo.com/thewire/cast )
That other new guy*, Colvin, is a Major. He told Valchek (I wonder if his van ever came back?) he was getting ready to retire on a Major's pension.
Damned if Daniels isn't STILL in the doghouse. I wrote that a few weeks ago as a joke...
And Herc and Carver are still boobs.
*According to the site, he was in an episode last year, but I can't immediately recall him. He looks like a good addition to the main cast.

I'm pretty sure that one of the gang member/drug dealer shootings (woof) was in retaliation for the Cheese's dog getting beat unfairly but were the others? I'm not even sure how Cheese plays into this whole thing and who's on who's side. It's good to see Omar up to his old tricks.
Did Bodie leave Marlo's territory after Marlo told him to pack up his people? Wasn't he still there when Carver and Herc drove by him at the end or was he somewhere else?
It'll be interesting to see what happens if/when Avon finds out that D was murdered.
I really love this show; it's feels so real. As much as I loved last seasons story I'm really happy that they've moved their focus back where it was during season one.

Since when are Burrell and Valchek so buddy, buddy?
I remember Valchek being mad at Burrell for sticking him with those hump cops on the Port investigation.
Also Stringers gonna be in alot of trouble when Avon finds out about Dee. Plus he's got Omar on his case and I wouldn't be suprised if Brother Muzone steps to him.
For a smart businessman Stringer is making alot of enemies.

Richard Price rules: "And this must be the lovely Mrs. Herc..."

(Wonder if she knows about the Olsens?)
And the whole belligerent Bunk at the jukebox set up was hilarious, also.
Omar: "Do tell?"

I love, love, love this show.
